always intrigued to give it a shot but Ted Danson gives me the impression that it's dull.

Does this get better after the end of season 1? We kind of lost interest a couple episodes in, as it gets a little tired, repetitive. How does it bounce back?
I thought Season One was the best .

I watched all the episodes and really liked it, but it felt like writers working really hard to explain things after a while. That’s why it didn’t make my list.

I have never seen this and it might be another case of the name of the show steering me in the wrong direction. Looking at the trailer and this seems like it's right up my alley. For some reason I thought it was a drama that would be soap opera like and I credit it that to the name of the show.

In all seriousness, Andy - I get what you are saying, and I largely agree on principle. Mostly it's that TV is not my vice and not where I spend my extra fun money. 0% chance I would buy a show unseen for $30+ now. Not that I am opposed to spending $30 on something, but that is now for albums or 4K movies I know I love.

This thread has taught me that the names of shows will dictate whether people even look into whether they should watch them. Which is baffling.
In my old age, I avoid trailers when I can as well. All I have to go on usually is the name of the show and who is in it. Mr. Robot starring Remi Malik wasn't going to move the needle for me (sticking to that example). I am sure others think Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring a bunch of teens sounds dumb as hell too.

Wasn't the biggest Ted Danson or Kirsten Bell fan prior to watching this show,so I missed it when it first aired.
I was hearing a lot about it on podcasts, so I checked it out. I ended up binging it quickly on Netflix.👍
Great twists and an amazing ending to the series.
D'arcy Carden as Janet is great.

Ted Danson was a turn-off for me in terms of being interested, but he turned out to be brilliant in it.

Janet (all the Janets) was my favorite character. :)

And I agree that the ending was perfect. Absolutely nailed it.

"Not on streaming" is not the same thing as "Not available on a subscription streaming service". There was a time, not so long ago, that we all paid a rental fee to watch our programming.

Almost everything is still rentable/purchasable in digital form. Here's Mr Robot for $25. There are 45 episodes so that works out to $.56/episode. Shoot the locks off your wallets.

And physical media is still available. And also has the advantage of being something you can sell once you're done with it. Here's Mr Robot for $45.

End
Sorry, I am trying save money and decrease my subscriptions as well. I am not cold purchasing shows I've never seen for $25-45. Yes, I get that I can buy and rent most things on Amazon or buy the discs. I can also wait in line at the library for the 1 copy of the show my library service has.

Most of my post was playful poking, but certainly you can understand the frustration of having multiple streaming services and STILL having to rent/buy or get from the library a surprisingly big portion of stuff people want to watch. It's a pretty known show, so I was mildly surprised one of them doesn't own it and have it on their service. Shows like Faulty Towers I expect to have more issues finding.
I'm kinda teasing too, but also a bit serious.

Paying for a monthly streaming service is just another way of renting. Sure it's an "all I can watch" version of it, but you still don't own anything once your month is done. The advantage is that you can watch an episode or two of a show and bail if you don't like it. But it's still sunk cost and you paid something for it in both dollars and time. Things still break down to a "cost per watch" amount.

I would advocate checking out the show from the library (if only libraries had more Blu-Rays! :sadbanana: ) if only just to check something out. Unfortunately libraries will eventually/soon run into a lot of their movies falling victim to disc rot.

To your point, is it surprising that Mr. Robot isn't available to stream anywhere? Yes it is. It was at one time, I know, because I watched it on Hulu. The licensing for all this stuff must be a weird thing. But not every buffet is going to have every menu item available at all times, I guess.

TLDR - Mr. Robot is worth watching no matter how you need to get to it.
Problem will be that we're all going to put 5-10 shows in our queue from this list, and 4-8 of them will be streaming somewhere, and by the time we get finished with those shows, we'll have the next seasons of Penguin and Shoresy and Invincible and Severance to watch... Mr. Robot for more money just isn't ever going to come up in the queue. If I ever run out of shows, I'll get Apple for a month for $10 or whatever and watch their 5 good shows.

100% agree. I have to admit Kirsten Bell turned around my opinion of her with her work on the show. I'm still not a fan of her husband, Dax Shepard, though.

Created by Michael Schur, which is all I really needed to know going in. He’s got credit for some of the greatest comedy TV series this century.

For those of you that ranked reality shows, I hope when you're sent to the Bad Place they give you the penis bees.

I ranked The Good Place #4 but also have a reality competition show in my top 10. I guess I'm going to the Medium Place with Mindy.
OK, penis bees won't work for you so you're going to the hot dog torture department
Michael: There are nine hot dog torture departments. Making people into, stuffing people with . . .
Tahani: Ooh, stuffing people sounds fun. Is that like shoving them into the throats of vegans?
Michael: Yes. "Throats".

Well, until about 2 or 3 years in when it seemed like they all time-warped into the mid-70s and Potsie had feathered, Shaun Cassidy hair in what was supposed to be 1958

I watched this show a bunch, as I was a teenager and that ABC lineup was made for a doofus like me. When Fonzie became the breakout character, they gave up all attempts at time-and-place. I don't blame the showrunners for doing so - the show was a huge hit.

Ted Danson gives me the impression that it's dull.

Ted Danson was a turn-off for me in terms of being interested
I had no idea there was such a huge Anti-Ted Danson contingent on this board, or anywhere for that matter.

"Oh, it's a good board. Stock thread, fantasy football, general life tips, and they ****ing hate Ted Danson."
Definitely seems like an odd take. I don't think anything I have seen him in is bad. He was great in the new show The Inside Man as well.

If you really want to hate the guy, go watch the '80s TV movie Something About Amelia - it's on YouTube.

I have to whittle down my commitments somehow.

To be fair, I might have been mixing up the Good Place with the Good Wife and just stayed away to be on the safe side

Why is it an odd take? Nobody said the shows Ted Danson has been in are bad.
So, even in your favorite shows there isn't one actor/actress/character you wouldn't miss or you dislike in the cast?
