The Trent Richardson Thread (5 Viewers)

I may have missed lots here, but do we have any info on what he was suspended for? Last I heard they were saying it was personal reasons and he said he was in the hospital. Unless I somehow missed a ton of new info.

yeah, that's the last i heard, too, but I'm kind of unplugged after week 16
So maybe he lied about the family emergency? That would trigger a suspension . Just guessing here with no info except that weird tweet that his mother was all right.

I knew T Rich was gonna be a bust, you know why? He use to shop at a store I work at and he would buy nothing but junk food and candy. I even thought about calling Berea and letting the Browns know what he was eating. Its the reason why i didnt draft him the following year

I'm surprised that a guaranteed year in a contract can be killed by a one game suspension, that that provision was in his contract. And even more surprised that he would risk losing 3+ mill just to skip one day of practice in the lead-up to a huge game, possibly just due to petulance. It's 101 pages of various forms of wavering support (he has talent, he can't be that bad!) to disgust (oh yeah, he is) but this has to suggest the attitude, behavior and habits have played bigger roles than most thought. Maybe this mystery will finally be unraveled.

His talent didnt translate well to the NFL game. Not much of a mystery IMO. I don't remember many runs, let alone any games, where I thought "hey this guy looks really good". Every RB with more than a few touches has a good run mixed in somewhere. Richardson must have the lowest "good runs per touch" of any player ever.

I'm sure his attitude and personality doesn't help

Sources tell the Indianapolis Star Trent Richardson's absence from the Colts' walk-through and team flight before the AFC Championship Game was due to "serious complications" with his girlfriend's pregnancy.
Per the sources, T-Rich's girlfriend was "experiencing contractions and appeared to be in premature labor at just 28 weeks of pregnancy." That would certainly be a valid reason to miss a walk-through, but sources say T-Rich didn't alert the team in a "timely manner." It's an important issue, as Richardson's ensuing suspension means his fully guaranteed $3.184 million for 2015 could be voided. If the Colts take that step, they'll undoubtedly have a fight on their hands.

Just bought him for Stevie Johnson. Likely a waste but Johnson was a likely roster cut anyways. I'm sure Johnson emerges as SF #1 this year and T-Rich gains another hater.

Colts waived RB Trent Richardson.
WAT??

at least we made it to 100

edit for full blurb:

The move closes the book on the worst trade in recent memory. Acquired for a first-round pick in September 2013, T-Rich ended up averaging a pathetic 3.09 yards per carry on his 316 Colts totes. In between were weight and attitude problems. Whomever split the backfield with Richardson inevitably ran circles around him. T-Rich is still only 25 (in July), but due $3.184 million, he'll safely clear waivers. He'll have to be open to minimum contracts, and won't be assured of a 53-man roster spot wherever he ends up.
pathetic

Worst trade ever is hyperbole.

Here's what the Browns did with the pick:

  • Traded Indianapolis' first-round pick (26th overall) and their own third-round pick (83rd overall) to Philadelphia for their first-round pick (22nd overall) .
  • Picked Johnny Manziel at No. 22.

Trent Richardson waived by Indianapolis Colts
Eighteen months after trading a first-round draft pick for Trent Richardson, the Indianapolis Colts have thrown in the towel on the sluggish running back.

The team announced Thursday that they have waived Richardson.

The No. 3 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft -- billed by many as the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson -- Richardson averaged a futile 3.1 yards per carry on 316 carries over 29 games with the Colts.

We are going to go out on a limb and predict the 24-year-old running back will clear waivers.

It was just last February that general manager Ryan Grigson insisted he would make the trade all over again. The Colts maintained high hopes for Richardson as a rare three-down back last summer, only to watch him stumble through another season, battling weight issues and ultimately drawing a two-game suspension leading up to the most important game of the year.

Of all running backs with 500 carries since the 1970 merger, Richardson has the second-lowest yards-per-attempt average.

Grigson had little choice but to concede the trade as a colossal bust, especially with reliable veteran Frank Gore now on hand to take over the backfield.

Due to Richardson's contract language, that suspension gets the Colts off the hook for $3.184 million -- barring a successful grievance.

The Colts are a stronger team without Richardson, who averaged nearly two yards less per carry than the combination of Ahmad Bradshaw, Donald Brown, Dan Herron and Vick Ballard over the past two years.

Pep Hamilton's offense bogged down in the second half of the season with Richardson and an injury-ravaged Reggie Wayne operating as liabilities.

Now that Gore and Andre Johnson have been imported as major upgrades, the Colts should boast one of the NFL's most high-scoring attacks.

As for Richardson, he's still young enough to land a no-obligation third chance if he's motivated and in-shape later this offseason.

that just means it was teh worst trade ever followed by the worst pick ever

The playbook was too difficult for TRich to understand. He actually showed promise this past season. On the right team, I am looking to buy. And I'd be willing to pay a first rounder to get him. I believe we have yet to see the best of him. Has anyone seen my shiny green pipe?

Rotoworld:

Trent Richardson said his top priority this offseason is to learn the Colts' offensive system.

"Learn the system, not just memorizing it," Richardson said. "Learning the whole concept of the system. There's a difference between having it memorized and feeling comfortable with the system. Im going talk to a lot of veteran players, talk to Adrian (Peterson), talk to (LaDainian Tomlinson), talk to Emmitt Smith to make sure Im the best I need to be next year." Richardson stresses that he's highly motivated to "put on a big show every weekend." Richardson checked in at No. 78 overall in our own Evan Silva's post-season fantasy top 200 last week.

As a Richardson owner in one league, that was not what I wanted to hear. He seems to be saying that while he committed it to rote memory, he didn't actually understand the system he was playing in - or at least that is how I would interpret him saying he didn't learn it. I don't find his statement the least bit encouraging as to his prospects going forward.
At the time, I thought his inability to learn the system that first season with the Colts was a major red flag. RB is one of the most instinctive positions in football and not being able to grasp the playbook seemed to be a really bad sign. I am not often right in my take on things, but I was on the money in this instance.

Grigson gave up a first-round pick for Richardson in one of the worst trades of the last 20 years. The team was unhappy with Richardson reportedly being late for team meetings and being overweight.

"We had made an agreement where I'd weigh 230 pounds, but it turns out that I was supposed to be 227 pounds and they didn't tell me that," Richardson said. "We've got a list of things we can use against the Colts where I can get my money back. They were fining me for failing to meet conduct code. Not making weight is not conduct code."

I was about to post that one. It had to have been those 3 pounds. If they had told him to be 227 in the first place, we would have witnessed the start to a HOF career.

"Me and [Colts GM Ryan Grigson] didn't see eye to eye. My next step, I'll be the starter. Indy didn't fit me," Richardson told ESPN.com on Thursday.
He's probably right. He can start for most Arena League teams.
Let's be realistic here.

He could start for SOME Arena League teams...
Woo hoo, welcome to the dark side man. It only took squistion 1 year and you 2 years to finally see the light. So glad I never wasted a pick on this turd in any league the past two years.

Seems like a Rex Ryan move to bring him to Buffalo and get a young Heisman winner for a song. It's not impossible for him to turn it around. I'm holding.

I agree. I don't think it's likely, but if I had to spend my money on him or a lot of the other guys who will likely be in his new, lower price range, I'd give him a shot. Look...the guy has looked iike a bum over the last 2 years, but he didn't look that bad as a rookie. At some point, he exhibited all the things that made NFL scouts consider him a top-tier RB. Those things didn't go away completely. There's a strong likelyhood that system, and coaching played some role in this. Change that, and you could get a pretty good RB.

If you can get him for cheap, just the possibility of his upside, no matter how remote, makes him more interesting than a lot of guys out there. At his former 1st round price, not a chance...but we're beyond talking about T-Rich getting that kind of money.

This has to be the most pathetic thread ever....not only does trich suck (i dont own), but there are 3 or 4 of you in here that keep posting the same pathetic statments about how bad he sucks and how right you were, that add no value at all....over and over and over and over and over and over...it is almost as if some of you have never been right before and feel the need to drag out that you were right, this one time, for all of us to see...over and over and over and over and over...get a life please. We already knew you thought trich sucked 95 pages ago
Bitter? I remember your challenge and went back and looked you were high on TRich and down on Luck. If the search function worked, I would assume you were on the TRich backers side even though you say you don't own him.

Anyway, relax. Jrodicus and I posted back and forth about TRich back when people thought he still might have value, so I thought it was funny he finally gave up the ghost. Amazingly enough, I don't care about your post. I have a life, but FF is fun sometimes for some of us and we don't get as upset as you. Honestly, if this thread bothers you that much, you may want to look in the mirror when you say get a life. This thread is 101 pages, of course this is more comedic value than anything based on his performance. So :banned: and have a good weekend and enjoy yourself.

Lol...feeling guilty? I dont remember calling you out by name...lol
Nope, not at all. Why would I feel guilty? This thread has been pretty fun. TRich continues to give us gems even after being released. Also, I feel a sort of camaraderie and want to make sure all of us who were right in this thread are given our due. Based on your post, I think we have been and after 95 pages, I appreciate the king words. Good day sir and god bless.

So seriously...what is wrong with him?

beyond he sucks...which he clearly does...

he appeared to have some talent...is it all a head/heart issue?

did he break down in college and he has nothing?

i get him not being elite...but the fact that he is such a load of crap is amazing to me

This is just what he needs as the Colts weren't committed to making him a star in this league. He can now hook up with a team on his terms and live up to his talent.
which is an amazing statement considering two teams spent first round picks on him.

I think he's overweight. Looks like he's lost a step. He may be stupid as well because he has zero vision and only appears to make half decent runs when the holes are beyond obvious. If you looked up plodder in the dictionary Richardson's picture would be next to it right now. That won't change until he drops weight. Teams may have seen enough to think he is done but he'll probably get one more chance. I can't see him coming back for anything more than a minor resurgence.
