"The Voice" , new singing talent search show (1 Viewer)

A very good old friend of mine flies out to be on this show in a week-ish. :popcorn:Apparently it's crazy hush hush (he wasn't really allowed to tell anyone at the risk of not getting on the show)... according to him his wife, parents, and myself are the only ones he's told.Once everything's official I'll post up more details. I legitimately think this guy has a real shot...
I though the blind audition rounds were taped in one day and then shown over 5-6 shows.
He was invited to a semi-private audition in the city he lived in and apparently has already signed a lot of paperwork (took hours), he is already talking to wardrobe/stylists/image consultants etc. I guess some folks are already "pre-cleared" as they're expected to advance? Apparently he will have to turn over cell phones, passwords to social media, etc... and go into a communications black hole during filming. I dunno. Have never even watched this show before.
It very possible he was picked by a coach and is going back for the live rounds.
Huh... unpack please? What/Who are the coaches? They get to pick contestants before they even try out?
The "try out" is the whole premise of the show ... people go on and sing while the judges can only hear their voice (and the audience reaction). If they like what they hear and want the person on their team, they hit a button that will spin their chair around so they can actually see the person performing. There are 4 judges. If more than 1 judge hits their button, the contestant gets to pick which team to be on.
More explaination: The "try out" is not live. It happens well in advance. There is a chance your friend went to try outs and was picked by the judges. If they get picked, they go back later for a "live sing-off" with other competitors. Maybe he was picked, and will be going back. You should watch the Voice and see if you see him.

The tryouts are live, but yea, well in advance, but they are not blind like the show. Also, I'm sure some singers bypass the tryouts like that guy who is Leann Rhymes roadie from last night. But that really didn't get him anywhere as he wasn't that good and was rightly not picked.

This could be life changing for your friend even if he doesn't win, if he hit's it off with his coach. Blake Shelton has taken some of his team performers on tour. Adam Levine said last night he signed one to a record contract and Christina Aguilera made one, one of her back up singers.

And Cee Lo took one of his out for a sammich.

They go through several stages of auditions before they can get in front of the celebrity coaches. Well, at least the ones that don't have an express pass from some other arrangement do.

Gotcha.. thanks for explaining guys.

I'm wondering if he will be on the prelims since he wasn't at the actual mass tryouts. I'll probably DVR it and check it out though in case. Just shot him a text to see if he knows what the scoop is.

All the 64 who make it to the live show have to go through the blind auditions. So he was either been one of those chosen over the past 2 nights or will be on tonight or over the next few weeks.

Just talked to him. He's definitely not on these first few episodes. Blind auditions continue for the next few weeks then? He doesn't even fly out to LA for a week or two (ish... trying to be pretty vague here for obvious reasons). I guess once he's out there he'll be on one of these blind auditions, then. Seeing some of these folks that are getting love on the website I gotta think he'll scream into the top 64 without any trouble... at all. Will be interesting... I guess consider me "IN" for the thread this year :blackdot:

The blind auditions are over. They are just spending out the results over 3 weeks as part of the Voices dog and pony show. When he goes out there again it is to begin working with his coach to prepare for the live shows. If he is on the show he has all ready been out there at least once for his blind audition.

I don't think so. The winner last year was Alicia Keys backup singer he had to go through the blind audition process. Every one who makes it is shown being picked by a coach. You have to preform before all 4 coaches to make the final 64.

If the blind auditions are indeed over, and they are all shot in LA... then something is amiss. He's not been to LA and he's definitely on the show. Wish I knew more about the show and how it works. If he comes in town this weekend (might) he's swinging by for football/cookout on Sunday. I'll have to see if he has more info.

It's possible they could have changed how they do it. In the past they did it in one day. Was easy to tell since the coaches always had the same cloths on throughout the blind auditions shows.

Maybe you're thinking of X-Factor.

That could be possible, they do spread out there auditions over weeks.

Gotcha... here's the audition process from the website:

(compacted to avoid spamming thread)

To accept an invitation to be a finalist, you must timely complete and return the Participant Agreement Package that will be furnished to you by the Producer and will include, among other things, a Participant Release Agreement including release forms and waivers for review and signature by you and/or your family members. Additionally, any offer to become a finalist may be conditioned upon your submission to examinations to be conducted in Los Angeles, CA, by medical professionals selected by and paid for by the Producer and the certification of the medical professionals that you meet all physical and psychological requirements.

You must be willing to travel to Los Angeles, CA, for up to one (1) week in September, 2012 (or as otherwise scheduled by Producer) for the final selection process. Pre-approved economy travel (roundtrip to and from Los Angeles, CA, and your home in the United States) and lodging to be provided and paid for by Producer.

If you are selected as a participant, you must be willing to travel to and reside at one or more undisclosed locations in the United States for approximately three weeks in October, 2012, four weeks in January/February, 2013 and an additional seven weeks in April/May, 2013 (or as otherwise scheduled by Producer). Economy travel to be paid for by Producer.
I'm guessing that 2nd phase (September) is the blind audition phase? It would seem they're not over yet? THen the 3rd phase (October trip back out) is the final 64?

Why would they need them back out for 4 weeks in Jan/Feb and then 7 weeks in Apr/May? How long does this season run?! :lmao: Or are the second and third phases likely a writing/recording album phase for the winners/finalists?

They did up the teams by 4 each and now have some kind of coach stealing thing now. Maybe one of the coaches had something they couldn't get out of and they have spread the process out. Will watch to see if they show previews of next weeks show what the coaches are wearing.edited to add: I think they are doing 2 seasons now (fall and winter) so that could explain the long time frame. Possible he could be part of the second one?

Maybe it's for Season 4. Or maybe it's one of those gay porn things that Cranbrulet tried out for.

I'm pretty sure when I was growing up they didn't make sixteen year olds that looked like those girls last night. Whoa!!

In an effort to stop being know only for the cupid shuffle.... Cupid sang the cupid shuffle :wall:

the girl from the fame hs was OK but that song is always a disaster. I remember one of the favorites on American Idol washed out in the fight week after tanking it.

The black kid at the end was awesome.

Christina is still fat and it's depressing

Nope he flies out this weekend.
I think he is being pre-screened for the post super bowl season. Not the one being aired now.Why did Cupid do the Cupid Shuffle!?! Had he picked another song, he is on a team. So dumb.

if your friend does have a chance to pick his coach, tell him to stay away from Xtina. she's petty, and will be threatened by anyone with talent who won't follow her every word like a puppy dog. her only redeeming quality is that there's a good chance one of her boobs will pop out at some point.

The first phase is usually in July-Aug, and is in front of musical judges just like on American idol, they sit there looking at you and listening, not blind. If you get past that then there are 2 or 3 more phases.

Yep. He definitely did that already back in July. Then got a kit in the mail a few weeks ago and has been in contact with all sorts of folks leading up to this week.

I would guess he is going for season 4. The coaches have half their teams all ready with 2 more nights of shows this week and 3 more next week. Could be a chance they didn't find enough to fill up their teams and are bring in more to use in next weeks shows. Just seems like to short of a time frame to bring someone in new over the weekend for next weeks shows.

I've had other friends involved in these sorts of shows. They don't exactly bring you in for a relaxing week of festivities. They fly you in as soon as possible before they need you and get you out of town as quickly as possible to keep on budget. If there are indeed blind auditions being aired next week (sounds like there are) it would seem like he would be coming out for them. He's already been through the pre-screening and whatnot. I don't know why he'd be flying out on Sat AM for a season that's several months away. My guess is they'll be filming the final week/round of blind auditions on saturday or sunday or something like that. But who knows, I guess.

Edited to add: At Survivor Sucks they are saying the battle rounds are all ready taped. Other news. Maroon 5 is in China and have concerts there this weekend. They are on a world wide tour which ends on Oct 19 in LA. Back in time for the live shows. Blake Sheldon is also on Tour that ends Oct 21st. But it's here in the states.

watched the an episode recently, and i remembered why i hated watching this show; the pre packaged bits to waste a few minutes are sooo damn uninteresting and the judges "fighting" over the contestants like they actually give two craps which singer they will have to inevitably cut a few weeks later

>>>>[icon] - Your buddy been on yet?
CONFIRMED he is trying for next season. He actually just called me the other day from out in LA (I guess they get their phones at some points). He said it's been a real trip. They have them put up in big ### 1300 sq ft suites all at the same hotel. Said there is just an insane amount of talent strolling around (both musical and eye candy)... and they're not allowed to say anything about why they're there. IF they do... Gone. You can't leave the premises. There is a 9:30pm curfew and NO booze or drugs. If you get caught. Gone. IF you get booted.. you're on the hook for your flights, your food, your room (+$1000/night)...everything. There were a LOT of idiots getting booted/caught for anything from having a glass of wine with dinner, to ordering pot brownies from a dispensary to be delivered to the hotel. :lmao: He said it's a pretty crazy mind-#### regarding "Room 819" (The cut Room). There are guys walking around with headsets that will walk up to people at any point in time telling you to "Go to room 819". That means you're toast... and you best hurry. Often your flight is departing within an hour or so. Miss it and you're on the hook for the tab to get home. Sometimes they'll call you in the middle of the night. Sometimes it's a slip of paper under the door.... he said everyone was on edge. The final audition was 90 seconds in front of the producers and other show bigwigs. It's uber-sterile. No applause. Dark room with candles. You get no hint from them where you stand for days... mind####. I still can't say who he is whether he made it or not for obvious reasons. but I will say that the show went from 70k people trying out... to 205 flying out to LA....cut to 100 that made blind auditions.

Gone. Good deal. I'll be curious to see how it goes.

This is the one part of the Voice that I enjoy. Pre screened people trying out is so much better than watching all those awful auditions that go on in X Factor and Idol.

I really liked the guy on Monday with the guitar who did the song by Seal. thought he was better than a lot of the people that have made it on to teams. I think he would have been great for Adam to work with.

+1
Definitely. THough I am pretty sure Ido and Factor pre-screen. They just let the bad voices on for drama. The lower level of drama is another reason I prefer The Voice. I'm only watching parts of X Factor and I believe the paramedics have been called (and milked on air) twice already that I've seen.
