"The Voice" , new singing talent search show (1 Viewer)

Really like the addition of Shakira and Usher. They should keep them IMO.
I don't. Usher is ok but I really liked CeeLo and his bright out of this world clothing and banter. Shakira is a waste of space. She doesn't mesh with Blake and Adam and her only funny is her spanish stuff. I never saw her as an expert in spotting real talent nor Usher for that matter. CeeLo and Christina are old schooled so to speak and come across as really knowing their stuff.
Shakira is a waste of space? You're crazy.
Shakira is so much better than xtina. I thought christina was the biggest ##### ever. And it wasnt even needed, she did it to be a #####
Christina was a total train wreck. Bat #### Crazy. That's what made her worth watching. Shakira, not so much.
Really like the change to Shakira and Usher.

Well, they are both spinners...

I think it is more personal preference. Christina and Ceelo are both caricatures and brought more personality and drama..While I didn't care for Chrixtina's shtick, I think she gave good feedback and was a good mentor. I enjoyed Ceelo, but he gave very weak feedback.

This group functions more as a cohesive unit of peers and I like their interaction more. But, so far, I don't see Shakira as a strong mentor. May change when she starts to work with people. I think Usher will be strong though he has a little too much swagger for me.

So stoked for tonight's show.... in case my not so subtle hints haven't been obvious enough... he'll be on tonight's episode. :banned: Very excited for the guy. Having a dozen good friends over who have been fans of his for a long time...somewhat of a "watch party". Few beers and burgers and such. Knowing the song he sings and that he makes some chairs spin takes some of the surprise out of it... but not knowing who he picks at least leaves some suspense. My prediction of his preferences in judges...in order: Blake / Adam / Usher / Shakira. Will see who turns andwho he picks.

There's mah boy! :hifive:
I think the fact that he has so much experience playing live venues will help him as this competition moves forward. That said, there are some really talented folks in this year's competition so he has his work cut out for him.
Thanks guys.

Agreed 100% I think getting on the show is big... getting into the top 10 would be HUGE with this crowd of talent.

I'm hooked for the season obviously. This city is blowing up supporting him right now... hardly a mention of the other 3 memphians who are on the show. Kinda crazy.

Texted he and his wife before the show "Hope you guys are ready for 14 million new fans" WIFE: I think I'm gonna throw upPAT: I think I'm gonna drink till I throw up.

Love that kid. :nohomo:

Me: "So you know that site FBG's, someone on there know this guy that is singing on the show tonight"

Wife: "So let me get this straight, some guy from the Internet you don't know knows this guy and you are excited about it?"

Me: "Yeah, never mind"

Haha. That was me to my husband and mom earlier when we were all watching. Although at the same time I was telling them, my aunt called to tell my mom that some guy they saw in Memphis a few months ago was on and they were all excited. I really liked him. Hope he goes far!

FYI The full version of the track is available on iTunes... 1.29...greedy ####ers. He only gets a dime of that.

It's pretty solid though.. admittedly.

Somewhat similar to my house, except I told my wife she's going to hell. :o

Same here except I got to add "I saw this guy live with a guy I met on the Internet and his girlfriend. Also they bought me ribs and tamales."

:lmao:I have occasionally had similar conversations with my wife related to FBG.I liked his performance, but my immediate reaction is that he probably won't make the final four. I think Adam already has at least two singers who are better. That said, I'm rooting for him.

All the while I kept buying jack and cokes and taunting you about drinking them as your gf kept giving you the stink eye. :lmao:

Pretty damn close to the same conversation I had with my wife

Thanks

My initial guess would be somewhere in the low teens which is great out of 48. Depends on how his songs go and if Adam believes in him (from what I hear... not 100% familiar with the format yet).

Hope it's a fun ride

You hit it on the nail! Christina gave constructive feedback. I mean she new her music. All Usher and Shak do are goof around or say I want you or throw some spanish around. Even CeeLo gave more constructive feedback than these 2. I do not see them as experts in the industry just listening to them "critique" the contestants... oh wait! I mean :tebow:

Obviously a matter of opinion but I find Shakira and Usher to be a much better for for this show. The show is several times more enjoyable for me this year. Now they just need to replace Cardon Daly.

According to the Wikipedia page they're going back to see low and Christina next season.. Odd

Usher gives some specifics on how he can help, but Shakira only talks about her commitment to winning generally.

And let's not forget that Ceelo put Trevin and Amanda against each other in the battleground round. :loco:

CeeLo and Christina decided to skip this season, because they wanted to tour and promote their albums. Shakira and Usher are temporary replacements.

Guy is the ultimate family man...
Kept remembering your post when they were calling him Family Man, Patrick Dodd!

From all you shared, I really felt like I knew him. I think Adam's team is the best place for him, thogh, as already mentioned, Adam has a couple of Four Chair People. Last year, they turned it over to audience votes earlier, which will help him if they repeat that because there won't have to be aneven number of people going through from each coach.

Christina and Ce-Lo weren't replaced. All of the original 4 have a standing invite to be the judge on any season. Depending on their touring schedules, they can decline and a guest judge will come in. At any time, they can come back.

I said the same thing. But I said, remember the guy who sent us BBQ sauce. I have not watched it yet though

I am completely ignorant as to how the show works so this sorta insight helps. I still am pretty damn confused as to whats up with the battle rounds or why certain team makeups are better than others.

Glad to hear my incessant rambling about my buddy is at least somewhat welcome.

Cool pic of him jamming on our BBQfest trailer last may.

Sadly he'll miss this year's festival for the first time in years due to the Show... Hoping to have him back next year... though I imagine security/crowds will be more of an issue.

Edit>>> Up to 28 with a bullet on rock charts

They tweak it a little each season, so don't take this as gospel, but in the battle rounds each coach pairs up two of their team members and then has to cut one of them after they sing. So pairing up your two best singers ensures you lose one of your best singers early on. And, last year, coaches were allowed to compete for two players kicked off another coach's team, so one of your top players now ends up competing against you. I don't know if they are repeating that.

For as long as the coaches control who goes home, you have two issues: (1) The same number of people go home from each, so if one team is stacked, you lose some stronger contestants while some weaker remain. (2) They may play favorites. There is a round where audience and coaches each count toward the vote. The coaches allocate points between the two players. (Someone correct me if I misremember any of this). Most coaches split 50/50 so the audience controls who advances. Adam a year or two ago allocated points stacked enough to ensure the guy he bonded with got through over the woman who won the audience vote.ETA- Was the local performance they showed last night the one you went to?

Good info MA... thanks! Someone mentioned "Steals" as well on another forum?Yep.. that performance in the montage was the one he did right before having to go off radar again. Voice crews were there shooting for 1 set.

Usher doesn't talk about pitch, tone---details that others have. I just don't like the 'I can help you if you choose me' alone comments. As for CeeLo, yeah and he regretted it later but still, it was a good matchup to put your 2 best against each other to see them head to head. One had to go anyway in the end. I hope C & C come back to the show.

Adam divided his points unevenly in at least two seasons (Season 1, gave more points to the ultimate winner. Season 2, gave more points to Mickey Mouse Club dude. I don't remember what he did last season.) Ce-Lo did a 51/49 split in Season 1.

I think steals will be key for your guy. Adam's team is pretty stacked right now, so it depends on who he pairs together in the head-to-head stuff.

Just caught up on Tuesday's episode on DVR and was avoiding this thread like the plaggue. Kudos to Pat...was really rooting for him. Really strong performance, particularly given the song choice. That's the type of song that raises expectations because have to really nail it or else you're toast. He's the goods. Was really happy for him.

I'm loving this season. The chemistry between the 4 coaches is fantastic.

Shakira a major upgrade. Sexy/adorable.

Christina just not hot anymore. No-brainer.

Usher or Cee-Lo? Thought Cee-Lo's eclectic nature really brought something to the show. Usher just filling space.

What'd you guys think of Grace Askew? She was the other Memphis artist I was telling you guys about.

She is definitely different(the hair was rough IMO). I think she's just filler though, as were most of the contestants last night. I thought the girl in the red dress was solid and there was some decent eye candy but overall underwhelming.
