The Wire (2 Viewers)

Just finished season 4. Woah. I think I still liked season 3 slightly better. Is season 5 even worth it?
Do you really have to ask?
Im gonna watch it regardless but everyone said it sucked
No, no they didn't. There were 118 reviews on Amazon, those cumulative reviews got 4.8 stars. On TV.com it got 9.6 stars out of 10 from several hundred people. But even if it's the worse season of The Wire (which it isn't), it would still be one of the ten to 15 best seasons of TV ever made. So yeah, it's not worth it.

Watching season 5 again. Is there anyone who actually liked that storyline involving the newspaper?
Loved the newspaper storyline :lmao:
:goodposting: me toojust finished season 5. what a fantastic finale. fitting for such a great show. ;) i'm gonna watch it again sometime soon.
I thought all of the seasons were great but five was especially good because it wrapped it all up in a nice little package and you felt fine with the show just having five seasons. I like three best because I thought every episode was edge of your seat, but four, one, and five all had great aspects that made them as unique as the show concept itself. Two is my least favorite, but I'll still watch it again every year for eternity. I think three was the best storyline, four had the best writing, five wrapped it all up and two kind of opened things up so people could really get into the show. One is the original and the most flawed production-wise, but after I saw it the first time I thought it was the best thing I had ever seen. Problem was a lot of people still don't get the show, or aren't even interested in watching it. I met a guy who said he tried to watch season 1 and just gave up. That's mind boggling.

and yeah, Cutty might be a little gay.
:boxing: (see what I did there??)I always loved the scenes with him and Michael, how Michael was just uneasy, without outright ever saying anything. That was always the thing I loved about The Wire - it never insulted the viewers, and pounded you over the head with things. Everything was a gray area, open for interpretation, and watch it again and again and that subtlety comes to the forefront.Yes, I miss it, but I have the DVDs and will probably watch it ever year to remind me of how good it was.Speaking of which, WTF is Treme coming back? :)

A lot of people thought 5 was the weakest story because of the whole serial killer thing. I think it sort of summed up a lot - the indifference, etc - but I agree that it was maybe not quite as strong as the other seasons. But, the last 3 episodes make that one of the best seasons ever. I loved season 1 on first view, but gave up on season 2 early (initially) because I thought it was a different show. I went back to it before season 3, and have rewatched several times since, and I still think this was a gem of a season that is often overlooked. Season 2/3 were underrated in many ways.

I'm so sad that this is over, and angry that there isn't a 6th season.Although I did like how Syndor = new McNulty as he spills the beans to judge Phelan, then asks for his name to be left out of it, ya right!I also like how dukie is basically the new bubbles, and Michael is the new Omar.Just would have loved to see more. :sadbanana:
That's been the theme since the S1 finale... the people change, but the game stays the same. #### just keeps on moving. Michael was always one of my favorites. "Big paws on a puppy, no doubt."

I think I mentioned this before, but that same actor delivered the same line in the same way in the movie 25th Hour.Edit to add: Don't cuss.

While back, I took a stroll through the pit. I saw that kid we got running things down there, uh, Poot. Now, he got the cell phone I gave him for the business, right there on his hip. But, the ##### got another cell phone that only rang when the ##### called. Now, if this no-count ##### got two cell phones, how the #### you gonna sell any more of them mother####ers? That's market saturation.

One of the things I liked best was how, I thought he was being portrayed all along to be the new kingpin (Avon or Stringer or Marlo), then he ends up being the next Omar. So many good textured plotlines in this series, its insane.I'm telling you. I dont' watch TV more than Survivor and sports now. This show ruined television for me.

man, #### a charge. this here's a gun powder activated, .27 caliber, full auto, no kick-back nail throwin' mayhem. #### tight here is tight

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

After watching Season 3 for the second time I realize that my hatred of the Hamsterdam storyline overshadowed what was a brilliant season. I've moved the season up in rankings: 4-1-3-2-5Can't wait to go through Season 4 again. IMO the best single season of TV ever.
Season 3 is my favorite, by a comfortable margin.Maybe you didn't like Hamsterdam, but it was the circumstances surrounding Hamsterdam that made the season great. The season really highlighted the mess in the police dept. and city hall. I felt like that was the season that we really got to the heart of the matter, regarding why this city's so effed up. S4 obviously added in a major new element. You have all that and then mix in the downfall of the Barksdales and the rise of Marlow. For me, it's The Wire's signature season.

halfway through season 5....definitely a step down from the previous two. The end of season 4 was awesomeness... really made me like Carver even more.

Just finished Season 5.

Done with the show, pretty incredible.

I didn't hate Season 5 at all, in fact, I liked it more than Season 2 by a mile. The most powerful scene in the series for me was Chris dropping of Duquan into the homeless alley there and the subsequent scene with Duquan asking Prez for money for drugs.

I also loved seeing Snoop get killed by Chris - great moment for me.

I knew it was over when Omar was killed, the show wouldn't be half the show without him involved.

I will rewatch this series over and over and over.

I think you mean Mike, but yes. And yes, rewatching is great. I've done it several times now.

Snoop got arrested for dealing Heroin the other day. Life imitating art or other way around. Pretty sure they picked her up off the streets in the first place.

Had a giggle a couple of weeks ago when I was in Santa Monica for business and went down to third street (I think) down near the beach for some dinner and there was a street performer that was performing an acoustic version of "Way Down in the Hole". I stood, listened and tipped. It wasn't bad. I really did LOL when he yelled "OMAR COMIN' YO!" at the end of the song

Never knew until this morning that Steve Earle, who sang the Season 5 version of the theme song, also played Waylon (Bubb's sponsor) in the show.

Waylon was the 2nd worst character on that show, behind Ziggy.

It's not like he was a major character or anything. The guy was there to help Bubbs and to show there are good people despite all the f-ups that are the politicians.I wasn't a big Ziggy fan either, but he did fit the season. That second season really is a show on it's own.

I played golf with a Wire cast member once before I watched the show. Cyrus Farmer, who played the partner of Michael's mom, who was later offed by Chris.

He was a real nice guy and only revealed he was actor while walking up the 18th fairway. Earlier in the round, I thought I had recognized him from NYPD Blue, but wasn't sure. This was right before the writers strike and he had mentioned I might like the Wire. I kept waiting for him to show up while watching the series and he didn't disappoint.

Couldn't hit the driver though.
