Things we thought were true, but turned out to be great marketing (1 Viewer)

i thought we were talking about not drinking milk because it's bad for you

people eat red meat and wear leather gloves and nobody bats an eye

that closer?
I'm so confused.  Is this a Chik-fil-A marketing campaign?  I feel like the cows have confused my brain.  I may have to rethink my "Cows are stupid" take and change it to "Cows are conniving jerks."

it's big government with their thought control and subtle hints

you're powerless to resist

No I'm talking about the ones that produce the stuff and don't eat it. Cows literally produce milk, feed it to their calves for six months and never touch it again.

Red meat animals don't make gloves.

Queso dip.

Quite brilliant. Some genius figured out that you could take white American pasteurized processed cheese food and convince Gringo's that it was some fancy Mexican cheese dip.

Perfect.  Bananas are usually around but not eggs, I'm not cooking breakfast.  Will start hard-boiling eggs and have em at the ready, thanks to Ron Swanson. 👍
It takes me longer to peel the damn hard boiled egg than it does to crack it open and fry that sucker

Spinach is a good source of iron.

ETA...I guess I should have read the whole thread as I see this is discussed further on page 2, but WebMD certainly suggests it is a decent source... https://www.webmd.com/diet/iron-rich-foods#1  But, it is also true as you pointed out, that this form of iron is not as easily absorbed.

These kind of arguments against drinking milk just seem so silly to me.  It would be ridiculously inefficient for an animal to eat something that it had to use energy to produce from scratch.  It makes total sense for a mother to only produce it for her offspring until it was old enough to eat other stuff.  But further, why does it even matter for us?  We take advantage of animals and plants all the time, eating things that the organisms didn't produce with us in mind.

And then there's the idea that no other animal consumes the milk of another species.  First, it's not completely true - some birds steal milk from mammals, ants farm aphids to drink their honeydew (hey, if almond milk is considered milk, then this counts, too).  But second, again, who cares?  I mean, what other animal soaks, grinds, and boils soybeans and then calls it milk and drinks it?  Why is soy milk (for example) considered a "natural" alternative to those who deem drinking dairy to be unnatural?

Good points, but I think any argument based upon an appeal to nature is poor. Someone already mentioned GMO vs. “natural” upthread.

This is a good point.  Claiming that other animals don't do what we do seems silly.  Other animals also don't drive cars, go to outer space, post on the internet, read books...  And that's just the non-masturbatory stuff I can think of.

Coffee.

Here’s a drink they convinced everyone was so great they don’t notice that an entire sub industry of things to add to coffee to make it palatable came with it.
I look own upon anyone who drinks their coffee other than black.

They’re ruminants for chrissakes. Among arguments against milk, this has to be the silliest.
Oh milk sucks anyway. It doesn't do anything for you. I haven't drank milk in 30 years. Don't eat cereal either. Healthy as can be. Forget cows don't even like it and just go with it is dairy and not really needed for strong bones or anything else.

Pretty much an example of what I was trying to say earlier about the pendulum swinging too far the other way.  So it's not as great as the marketers wanted you to think - sure - but that doesn't mean it "doesn't do anything for you."  It has macronutrients and vitamins and minerals that your body utilizes just like most foods.  The fact that it isn't "needed" can be used for just about any individual food there is, so isn't a good argument either.  I mean, blueberries aren't needed either and you can be "healthy as can be" without ever touching them.  Same with broccoli, chicken, etc.

Now, if you just don't like it or are lactose intolerant?  Those are good reasons not to consume the stuff.
