Things you hate spending money on (1 Viewer)

As a little spin-off from the irritations thread, I realized there are certain things that really bug me when I have to pay for them. Easily tops on that list for me is bottled water. Bottled water is one of the most annoying and biggest rackets there is. Especially when it's being sold right next to a water fountain. When I go somewhere and ask for a cup to get water and they tell me they only have bottled water, 99% of the time I just walk away and won't buy it out of principle. If I ever do have to buy bottled water, on rare occasions, i always feel dirty.

The other one is parking, particularly for events. I'd rather pay a normal fee and walk farther than shell out extra. Especially for valet, I'll always self park if it's available.

I know I waste money on other things out of convenience, but for some reason, these two always get to me.

What do you hate spending money on?

New tires. You drop 500+ and it doesnt feel like you gained anything.

I guess all car repairs in general.
you gained the ability to not slide into a pole and die. That's probably worth $500.

toilet paper

the cavemen didn't need it. why do I? I havnt mastered the clean poop technique where no residue is left behind. still working on this one

All the fees they tack on for services. One in particular that drives me nut is a disconnection fee - they get to charge me for stopping the service.

Just paid a speeding ticket. 195.00..then a 15.00 "Processing Fee" I paid the fu#$%^% ticket online. I should get a 15.00 discount

Golf balls.

I can't remember how many different brands I've bought and I still haven't found the ones that go straight.

Ticketmaster Print at Home fees, are you %()$I#($ serious with this ?!?! Remind me how the service fee I'm already paying doesn't cover the ability to make a printable PDF...

Something unexpected that gets me back to where I was before I bought it. Broken window, flat tire, plumbing issue...
Yup. This is mine...anything that gets me back to where I was...zero-sum-gain items. Can't stand them. I've gotten very proficient at fixing nearly everything under the sun because I HATE paying someone to fix things.

Just paid a speeding ticket.
This is it for me. I dont really mind all the other things listed. Spending money on stuff (even zero gain stuff) is just part of life, but I ####ing hate paying speeding tickets. Its such a money-grab. Got one last month for going 12 mph over the limit.

Pretty easy to avoid, no?
Not really. Pretty much everyone gets one at some point in their life. Sometimes going 12mph over the limit is safer/better than locking in on an exact speed.

Parking.

Chances are I'm parking in a specific lot because I'm about to attend an event that I've already paid to attend (or going to pay to attend). Or maybe I'm parking there to patronize a business or businesses.

This makes no sense.

I hate car insurance. I understand the need, but since this bill is semi-annual it seems to creep up on me every time - "crap I have to pay that again already?" And no I'm not going to pay extra to have it spread to a monthly.

Anything that involves a monthly subscription fee (utilities excluded). Always feels like they're trying to scam me.

This was my first thought. I'm good with my monthly car payment and gas, but the unexpected additional stuff definitely hurts.

I also hate when my wife orders a $3.25 diet coke at a restaurant and takes two sips of it.

Something that goes on sale after I bought it. Even if I fill up my gas and then pass another station that had it for a few cents less. I consciously know it's less than a dollar, but it still bothers me.

When I was young and broke(er).....

1) Overdraft fees. I think I was about 23 when I first learned that banks don't take the money out in the order you use a debit card, instead removing the largest bills such as your rent or car payment first, then taking all the small purchases. I once had to pay over $1,200 in late fees. I did the math and had they just removed the smaller items first (and 99% of the occurred after I paid my large bills), I actually overdrated a whopping $0.33.

I guess it was my fault and I paid it but It was a pretty F'd up thing to happen to this then kid.

2) Any excessive charge to further penalize the poor. Since you can't afford to pay your bill, pay an additional $150 to reconnect your services.

Sorry... Those were some lean, hard years.

Thanks to the Internet and youtube I've saved a ton over the last few years on car repair costs. A couple of weeks ago I changed the front brake pads on my car. Probably saved at least $100. As far as time goes, I had nothing else going on. And I taught my sons how to do it too.
