Things you should do if you don't like Trump (1 Viewer)

I don't think abortion is a topic that's going to lead anywhere productive in here. But, I hope those of you with daughters aren't being naive or delusional on the topic of sexuality, and you're providing the education and support necessary to prevent unwanted pregnancy. For religious types I know sometimes there is a tendency to assume your girls are pure as the driven snow and there's no need for dialog, or you preach abstinence, discourage birth control, or just generally create an environment of tension and silence around the whole thing. Don't be stupid. I think everyone on both sides of abortion can agree that fewer abortions are desirable, and obviously they are preventable if people make smart decisions.
As a "religious type" I second this.

Be more active in local government to create the momentum needed for real change.
My local government is already filled with people that think just like I do.  I'd have to move somewhere purple or red to really make it worthwhile.

Yeah not much of a reward having a kid you can't raise because you have downs and got raped by a sibling.  But hey, God's plan right?

So those pregnancies are being forced to be carried to birth?

Seriously, what is wrong with you guys?  There is zero intent to engage in rational debate.

Rational debate died with Scalia.  Maybe you missed the memo.   Now it's all or nothing.  Hate the other side no matter what.

Only with what I believe are a very loud minority.  And lol blaming it on Scalia when there's been a left ideologue on the bench since what seems like the Triassic period.

In the future.  Do you honestly think either side will ever confirm an appointee from across the aisle?  It will never happen again.  For evah!

This wasn't politics as usual.  It was a coup.  It worked.  And people cheered it.  Loved it.

What's next?  How do you go lower than that?

I honestly think Trump could have a dissenting judge arrested and people would cheer for it.  They'd justify it like they have everything else.  Heck, he might actually do it just to see.

This was the people sending DC a long overdue message, IMO. It's unfortunate that Trump was the vehicle to deliver it, but it might turn out just fine. There's a whole of undoing to do and there's still the checks and balances thing, even though that has gotten twisted into a knot in recent years.

How do checks and balances work when you are stacking the Supreme Court deck.  And I don't blame just the Republicans.  The Democrats are just as bad.  What we have now is the Prisoner's Dilemma in politics.  Both sides are better served by hurting the other side than helping their own side.

I honestly don't see anyone in politics (maybe Bernie but he was quickly neutralized) who wants anything to do with reconciliation.  It's going to be all out attacks across the aisle from here on out.  Just wait.

The Scalia thing wasn't the begining obviously.  But it was big.  I don't see how you un #### that.  Next time an opposing party gets a chance to block, it will be done no matter the length of time.   Heck the Dems are already talking about it.  If an opportunity presents itself, the opposing party will have no problem going 2-3-4 or even 10 years with a vacancy.  Do you not see that as the natural outcome?

At this point I could see Trump nominating Ben Carson or Scott Baio to supreme court.  Republicans confirming.  And people cheering for more!  Maybe Putin gets nominated next (I kid but not that much).

Someone interested in defusing the situation should be pushing for a Constitutional amendment to limit Supreme Court terms to 18 years.  That would go a long way towards ending these stalemates.

Great idea.  And even though I lean left, I'd be all for a law stating the senate must act on a nominee within 60 days or some such thing.  Now would be the time for Republicans to enact this (their side would cheer with glee!).  While I don't like the way the court is leaning, I am more concerned for my country than my party.  I'd be all for it.

I will avoid social media like the plague the next 4 years, much like I did on election night.

That actually shouldn't be difficult since I should be spending the next 4 years with my nose in a book (aspiring medical student).

Hopefully this buffoon is a one-term president.
