This board really has changed (1 Viewer)

I suppose there's always something that could change but I don't anticipate much moving from the current state of the board.

We had two big changes in the last couple of years with the Political Threads removed from the FFA and moved to their own forum and the not allowing the who's hottest / hot pics / yoga pants with the commentary threads. But that was a while ago.

The Political Forum is still kind of rowdy but that's why we keep them "over there". Things seem like they've settled into being pretty "regular" here for a while and I don't anticipate any new changes unless you guys know something I don't know. Entirely possible.

Bottom line - I don't see much changing in the FFA for what it's been the last year or so. You may see that as a good thing or a bad thing. But I think that's pretty much what we have here.
Yeah, I agree, that’s why i said this isn’t the same as when the other place went down in flames

but no one thought it would happen there...just sayin

I still get a couple 24 hour timeouts a year like I always have.  Same ole same ole.

I guess I never learn.

Yea, my 24 hours are usually getting into off topic back and forths.  I may or may not be guilty of some light trolling.
24 hour time out?

I've been contributing in here for well over decade. Clean as a whistle and my share of "likes" ...

just came back from my first "time out" .... 3+ months.for some insensitive humor.

Seemed pretty excessive for my first offense in 12 years but I don't know what punishment fits the crime in here so I've no leg to stand on.

I'm reluctant to post at this point.

I guess they like me more than I thought they did.

I figured with my imagined domination of tiny boxers that they might see me as more of a threat.

What's sad is, I meant to type "...you're being an idiot", but in my haste typed "...you're an idiot."  Not sure how much it would have mattered, but I might be the first person on this board to get a timeout because of a grammatical error.     Water under the bridge and I'm not complaining.  I just brought it up because I thought it was funny.  If you go back and read what I wrote, it makes much more sense if you have the word 'being' in there.

That 'being' might have at least shaved 6 days off the timeout, now that I know about this 24 hour timeout thingy. Thanks a lot, Trump.
Meh, that's nothing. I got a week for calling out members of congress for enabling Trump. I guess it was taken out of context and the mod thought i was calling out Trump defenders here. I was listening to and commenting about a congressional hearing though. It was pretty obvious if you looked at the context of the thread.

I've seen permanent bans for mentioning that the test forum used to exist. And responding "Yes" to the question, 'Did Robin Williams do drugs?'
   That doesn't sound right. When was this?

How have you "seen" that? Do you have moderator access so you're able to see what people post and are suspended for?

Or better, please let's not turn this into the ancient version of the PSF Moderation thread.

I think it would be a lot cooler/funnier if you changed your avatar from the generic F to a police car with flashing lights.

We still use the term slave drive for some of our hardware equipment,...   bunch of racists
I was listening to Sam Cooke’s Bring It on Home to Me recently.  I love that song but a lyric jumped out at me while listening to it that this thread reminded me of:

You know I'll always be your slave
'Till I'm buried, buried in my grave

Not sure how that lyric would go over today but either way it’s a fantastic song.

I'll admit that I prefer the previous version, but I can understand why things have changed.   The FBG brand has gotten bigger and to stay that way or grow this day in age, you have to "play ball" so to speak.   If you get labeled sexist, homophobic, racist, etc. you get dropped like a led zeppelin.   These days, people will read through people's old tweets, posts, etc. looking for things to brand you with, and many times it seems unfair.  Similar to  when people try ruining someone's draft stock by calling out a tweet or post that they made as a kid or teenager, I could see Joe being called out for having a website with a forum with sexist threads in it.  I personally think it would be silly to label this site or Joe in that fashion, because I don't think the content that has been removed was that bad and believe it did a good job filtering out offensive or over the top material.  But I certainly could see the aforementioned hypothetical situation happen in the current climate we live within, and if it did, the FBG brand would suffer mightily, whether unfair or not.  Perhaps that has nothing to do with some of the changes, but it was something that came to mind while thinking of the site amidst these types of threads and posts about the changes.

I belong to  union and remember when unions used to be unmercifully bashed here, now we are rising again with the socialist dems and supported here too.
Pretending for a moment that this isn't a one-thread board (I spend all my time in the 10K thread), I'd be happy to jump into a union-bashing thread.  Monopoly on labour supply, drives inefficiency, kills companies, etc, etc.

Also happy to jump into a corporate governance thread (income inequality, old boys' club, etc, etc).

But for now I'll go back to talking about cadence, poop, and the weather.  In the 10K thread.

This aint your grandpas board anymore. With new leaders like AOC following the Bernie Sanders mold unions will rise again.

You got 3 months for excessive humor! Wow I'd love to know what that was but I guess we'll never know since 3 months was given. That's crazy.

it seems a little hypocritical to allow it to be rowdy "over there".....and yet over in other forums when there is some back and forth, disagreements, and discussion about things that end up calling people out for being wrong (or right in some cases), posts are deleted and suspensions are given.....

This is a perfect example of the guys who claim how unfair the moderating is and how they were unfairly punished for "just being funny." And usually, there isn't anyone that has the real story.

Looking at the report log, you were suspended back in March.

You posted in a thread where the topic was about a woman who was beaten by a man in a parking lot.

If you think your suspension was excessive, find a new board.

Or, just proves a point that this board policies have gotten ridiculously tight and inconsistent.

Hi @CGRdrJoe

Making sure I understand you.

Are you saying a poster seeing a 90 suspension for replying in the video thread where a guy beat a woman with five haymaker style punches after he posted this is ridiculously tight and inconsistent?

We had a good discussion at work this morning about whether you’d stay in a marathon if you were in the lead when diarrhea struck.  Finish the race with race with diarrhea streaming down your legs like Uta Pippig at Boston in ‘96 or leave the race to tend to business?

Three of my coworkers would immediately drop out, but another lady and myself are finishing that damn race.

Solid workplace discussion.

I think the timeout is consistent.  Have no idea about how the length of timeouts work, so can't comment there.

But maybe we should stop reposting the joke that warranted a 4 month timeout over and over.

Honestly, that discussion sounds the opposite of solid.  :X

Do you consider intent when moderating?

Because, to me, that post was not serious.  It was intended as an intentionally bad joke meant to illicit a combo of shock/laughs.  Basically like a poor-man’s Louis CK joke.

yes, as I think the direct insults that people post to each other on this site are far more degrading. This was a poor attempt at humor that has been said countless times by comedians on  their multi million dollar Netflix specials. I would think that if something like this warrants a 90 day suspension then the personal insults that get flung here should be worth way more. I'm not saying what he said didn't deserve a timeout just the sentence of the crime seems inconsistent with what else goes on here.

Hoo, boy. When you find out how people feel about Louis CK now, you’re going to want to revise your example here.

This isn't going to be a whatabout.

Something like he posted will always get at least a suspension for that length of time. Likely way longer.

If you see personal insults posted here that you think are way worse, please use the report function and we'll take a look.

But if you think posts like his aren't worthy of a 90 suspension, this isn't the board for you.

If I thought he was even the slightest bit serious, he'd have been permabanned instantly.

I can't believe I had no idea there were timeouts that lasted 3 months.  I now understand why people have aliases around here.

I should really think about getting an alias.  I was having withdrawal shakes by Day 6.

@Henry Ford are these guys just trolling me?
I dont think so.  Intent is everything and it can be jarring to get a long ban for something said tongue in cheek or in jest.  A good example is how I often use humor to deal with tragedy and loss.  It's as legit a way to deal with tragedy as anything else, but it often comes across as crass or tasteless on the internet.  I've learned to rein it in a bit on the internet.

I know moderation is not an easy task and i know it's a losing battle to even bring it up again, but it still bothers me i got a week timeout for the following:

"These holier than thou Trump defenders have no souls. A blight on the history of this great Republic"

There was a thread in the PSF that was discussing a congressional hearing. Posters were watching and responding to what they were witnessing. Republicans at the hearing were tripping over themselves to give cover to Trump. It was embarrasing. I posted the above. The language is a little charged i admit, but in no way was this some sort of personal attack on anyone here. Pretty ridiculous to get a timeout for that IMO.
