The point on “Mrs” was that those who have that in their name, including Mrs R, usually (always?) have their Mr on the board, too. Mrs Rannous/Val Rannous, Mrs BSR/Brave Sir Robin, etc. Presumably a guy is less likely to do that if the target’s husband is here.

Oh...didn't realize that was a thing. My ex used Mrs _____ on The Nest forum years ago and I guarantee you I was nowhere near that place.
Somewhat related, I dated a girl a few years ago and after we realized it wasn't working out, we began helping each other with our Tinder profiles. She'd show me all the messages she was getting from guys and it blew my mind how forward these people were. "Will you have my baby?" was a go-to for some.

If the dirgy Smoke on the Water is the only Deep Purple song you know then it is no surprise you never connected with them. I wouldn't even put that in my Deep Purple top 10. Their best LPs, Burn and Stormbringer were after that, when bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (who had been with Trapeze) joined the band.

Adrian Smith's masterpiece for the band. Smith wrote the song, came up with the urgent clarion call of an opening, and played one of the band's most memorable guitar solos over the bridge. Steve Harris tucks in and keeps the energy going on bass, allowing Smith's playing to stand front and center.
Bruce Dickinson, as the Somewhere in Time sessions began, had felt exhausted and listless after the group finished the year-long Power Slavery tour. For "Wasted Years", he dug deep and got right off that schneid with authority.

Good pick - almost certainly in my Soundgarden Top 5. I also enjoy the Johnny Cash cover. I would probably go The Day I Tried to Live. Maybe more controversially, I love Slaves and Bulldozers and still put Outshined in their Top 5.

I'm not trying to be Posty here, but I mentioned a couple days ago about my BIL's cousin getting murdered in Denver. He said that she (Katie) told her parents a couple weeks ago that her boyfriend had beat her up. They lived together, and she shared custody of her kids with her ex husband. Katie's parents told her to please leave him, and they paid for an apt for her and the kids to move to, and she was supposed to move this weekend. Her ex-husband knew her boyfriend hurt her, and he told her that the kids were staying with him until she left her boyfriend. Monday morning she was getting in her car to go to work, and her boyfriend came out of the house and shot her in the face in the car. The car rolled down the street, and hit another car and caught on fire. Neighbors got her out of the car, but she was dead from the gunshot wound. The boyfriend shot himself inside the house. If the kids were there he probably would have shot them too. My BIL said his Uncle Bob is filled with rage right now. He can't even grieve, because he is so angry. One of my BIL's sisters broke the news to his mom. Katie was like a daughter to her. I'll be seeing some of them at Thanksgiving. It's gonna be a melancholy one. I think even if she had moved to the apt, he would have tracked her down there and killed her, and restraining orders don't really work. Sometimes the only alternative is to move and get a new identity.

I had a day to cool off a bit, and after getting a few supportive PMs, I would like to stay in the draft. I didn't really appreciate some of the nastiness that came my way (and lack of contrition) but I'm not one to hold grudges and like to finish what I started.
I love music too much to sit this one out. I try to stay away from the drama that's permeates these boards but I did a poor job this time I guess.

Title track from the Doors’ last album. Great lyrics and rollercoaster melodies.
Fun fact - During recording, Jim’s unexpected lyric “Mr. Mojo Risin” helped set the tempo of the song as drummer Jonathan Densmore thought “Risin’” was a signal to speed things up. It wasn’t until after the song was complete that Morrison showed the band that Mr. Mojo Risin was an anagram of his name.
Honorable Mention – Break on Through

One of the most intelligent, innovative rock bands in history. The crescendo that starts at 4:00 and builds to 5:53 gives me chills every time. What makes it even more special is that James Maynard Keenan writes his lyrics to the music after it’s completed, so he purposely delays ending the sentence with “…between supposed lovers” at the song’s climax.
Honorable mention - Parabola

I was definitely going to take these guys at the turn if they fell to me. You highlighted my favorite part of the song as well. I was probably going to go Right in Two. Aenema is my favorite out of the songs that got heavy airplay.

Damn you Cranks! I was really close to going with Tool in the first round! Shoulda figured they wouldn't get back to me..... My favorite Tool song is always kind of changing. So much to take in! Currently, Right In Two would be my choice. Schism is an excellent choice, though, and one of my faves as well.

L.A. Woman will forever remind me of Dan's Cafe in Washington, D.C., a bar in Adams Morgan where they sold alcohol by the flask (if that sounds like a bad idea, it was) and had L.A. Woman on the jukebox. That #### got played every weekend we were out, with the requisite singing out loud (if that sounds like a bad idea, it was) and merrymaking. Good times, and I can barely remember any of them.
One day, I was driving in D.C. in my car, and I got rear-ended waiting for a light. I got out of my car, walked over to the other car, and told the driver to never mind because mine was so beat up from prior instances of mis- and malfeasance that it didn't matter. He asked, "You sure, I got insurance?" It seemed like we knew each other, but I couldn't place him. It was downtown, anyway, and I was looking to just go home. I said, "No, it's okay, no problem," but I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew him somehow and should be saying hello. Two weeks later, I bellied up to the bar and finally put a face to the face. He was the bartender at Dan's. I was so drunk every time that I couldn't even remember who he was when he had hit me.

@Dr_Zaius I wore out my Metallica tapes back in the day! I'm super jealous that you got them with #1 overall! Even though I've listened to their first four albums over and over, my favorite kind of changes from time to time for whatever reason.....for me, it'd prolly be between Creeping Death, or Disposable Heroes.....but then I really love The Four Horsemen.....and Dyers Eve has always been right up there too......Master is so great though!! I'd agree with that. I wasn't so much disagreeing that adolescent ties to music don't exist, more that they are broken, often without a ton of thought. To wit: I didn't consciously decide "I'm going to dislike late 80s glam metal because that's what I want to do," I just wound up that way. I didn't say "I'm going to think that the sociological outlook of thrash is unappealing," it just happened. Same with some of the grunge I loved, even. The personal loathing and depression/drug addiction involved in it makes me a bit squeamish now. I don't necessarily love the music that shaped my youth, is all. I had a good time as a young man, just could do without a lot of the flamboyance and angst that the music provided, I guess. I think that's part of growing up, too.
Just random thoughts. I often look back at anything I was passionate about and realize where that unbridled passion led me astray and to overlook some things that shouldn't have been overlooked. It's no different with music, I guess.

Holland-Dozier-Holland masterclass that somehow didn’t reach number 1 on the US Pop Charts and failed to chart in the UK. The Supremes were so red hot that this was one of the only singles to not hit number 1. It should have.

I'm probably going Motown next. Supremes are elite. They were my mother's favorite so I grew up on them. I'd probably go "Where Did Our Love Go", but this is a great song that was often played in our home off of vinyl.
I DJ'd a wedding for a friend and they wanted only Motown, was my favorite setlist ever...and an amazing reception. There is something fun, but classic about Motown that most can relate to.
Just checked this out on Youtube and it had 3 million views, that should tell somebody new to music what we already knew...timeless masterpieces.

Awfully hard to quibble with this selection. "You Keep Me Hangin' On" might be the winner for me, but there are so many classics by them that it's hard to say that one is definitively or even subjectively better. This is where ranking songs is tough and where "best" becomes simply preference, if that's even not varied from one day to the next.
A different day, a different Supremes song.
One thing: I think their songs could get the same thing accomplished in a minute and a half -- or two tops -- and that would be enough. Simply a minute and a half to make a statement that, as Uruk points out, is made so fervently at the beginning of the song. "Boss, hit the fader, man..."
