THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (2 Viewers)

I think that’s the first pick so far that I really felt a sense of missing out on. Great choice
I only discovered this song in the last five years or so. It was on the soundtrack for some show on Cinemax or something that was set in the 70s. It was such a great show but it only lasted one or maybe two seasons. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

Guy comes home from Vietnam and starts working for the mob.

No clue on the show, sorry. I'm just here for the Otis.

It's very dependent on a bit of cultural understanding of where the Boomers were in the early 80s. The stars of the movie were idealist  graduates of Michigan in the late 60s. So was my dad. That likely colors my experience of the movie.
Speaking of movies in this era, the Four Seasons is so great too. Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno and more.

I've probably seen it 200 times.

Aretha story:  my buddy is staying at the Drake Hotel for a wedding about 20 years ago, gets up  Sunday morning after going big Saturday night with just his boxers on and ventures into the elevator  in an effort to get to the lobby bathroom(his room bathroom was unavailable.)  Two black women are in the elevator giggling/smiling when he gets in...within seconds he realizes he is in the elevator with Aretha f'ing Franklin.  Doesn't say word because he's embarrassed AF...when they get to the lobby the other lady says to him, "ain't that a story to tell, you in the elevator with Aretha Franklin with just your drawers on! (laughing)"

Probably my single favorite friend story, or pretty high up on the list at least.

There used to be more movies made about middle-age/old characters when I was younger.  Being young, I had little interest at the time.

Now that I'm old, they're all about the kids.

shuke, I see you in the "Recently Browsing." You can pick anytime for your first round pick. You're replacing higgins, who picked Rush and then had to leave the draft. You still get your first rounder, if I'm not mistaken. That's per Eephus and not NV, but I'm pretty sure his is a voice on high, so go ahead if you'd like.

Oh, this was real?

Again, I'm only picking once per day, in the evening, and you guys can skip me at will.

I'll wait until you confirm this is okay.

Talk about shooting your shot

It's just not my thing, whatever my thing might be.  I can certainly see why people would like it, and I can't say it's bad in any way.  Just not for me.

I'll listen to it a few more times.  On first listen, it has potential for me.  :)

The stuff with Bob Welch heading the band is different but good and takes a few listens to get into.

I think "Did You Ever Love Me'" from the prior LP with Christine McVie front and center is a bit more accessible and I almost chose that over "Child of Mine" as my Fleetwood Mac selection.

🎶You're far away, when I want you around
And you leave me lonely when I'm feeling down
Do you ever wonder or worry about me?
Did I ever love you, did you ever love me?

Do you ever wonder or worry about me?
Did I ever love you, did you ever love me?🎶

Yep, totally played straight. You're in slot 1.11 and 2.23, with each subsequent round corresponding. We'll skip you during the days if you want. You're after me this round, but you can make your Round One pick now.

Cool, I'll listen to this one and your official pick tomorrow (forgot to earlier).  Now OH is watching some horrible animated shouty TV show that really detracts from my ability to take in new music.

"Big Mouth," I guess it is.

Am I really going to be adding anything interesting to this draft.  You guys all know what my picks are going to be.

Trying to talk myself out of this because holy #### this is a lot to catch up every night.

Pick wise, you can catch up quickly via the spreadsheet...

You bring you, which is more than most of us bring.  A lot of my picks will be predictable, I'm sure, yet here I am.  Please do it!

I have no idea what your picks might be, as this is my first draft. So they would be new to me and I am looking forward to seeing your selections.

2    16    squistion    Fleetwood Mac    Child of Mine

So I've seen Fleetwood three times, McVie wasn't on the tour the second time and Buckingham wasn't on the tour most recently.

Definitely my favorite band of all time (Elton John is my favorite solo artist) and I almost picked them in round 2 but Depeche Mode seemed more interesting and I had a feeling neither was making it back to me.

My top 5 Fleetwood

1.  Dreams

2.  Gypsy

3.  Silver Springs

4. Landslide

5.  Sara

Oh look, I already have a write-up available.  If you like bass, listen to this song.

1.?? Grateful Dead - Eyes of the World

Ate the ripe age of 16 years and one month, my parents let me go with 3 other guys from Dayton to Cincinnati to see the Grateful Dead.  My life would never be the same.  I didn't know many of the songs I heard at the time, but I loved it all, including this song played in the second set and straight into drums.

The live album I linked to was released in April 1991, right before I graduated high school.  I bought it immediately.  Later that fall, my good friends and I drove up to Cleveland to see the Dead play at the Richfield Coliseum.  I can't remember if I had started school at UC yet, but this was with my high school friends, and were all parting different ways.  The show was where the Cavs used to play, but was out in the middle of nowhere. There was a campground nearby where we stayed with thousands others, and we able to walk to and from the show(s).  I believe there were two that weekend but can't remember if we went to both.  Regardless, it was one of the greatest weekends of my life.

I know others may point to better versions of the song, there are some great ones with Branford Marsalis on sax.  But I've listen to this live album more than anything in my life. And probably this song more than any other.

I don't know any of the Dead songs by name except for Shakedown Street and Casey Jones, but I've been to plenty of parties where it was only Dead songs played for hours...I like them all.

I've never been a part of the jam band culture, but I admire and respect it even if I don't fully understand it.
