His Dirty Knobs band is pretty good, too.Speaking of Tom Petty, here is his long-time collaborator and guitar player Mike Campbell playing with a young band I like a lot, Starcrawler. The young lady singing is quite arresting when performing on stage.

Learning to Fly is probably my favorite.I love Tom Petty. You called him “consistent” - well his catalog - in another post and for me he’s consistently very good. It would be hard to pick “the best” for him because of that and he just doesn’t have that stand out song. “The Waiting” is as close as any. The consensus is probably “American Girl” and I get that. My personal favorites “Even The Losers”.
STRIKE ONEGood timing - I have a few minutes between my back to back meetings to make my pick.
Picking the “best” song for this artist is extremely hard since his catalog is so vast and he touches so many genres/styles. I suppose this is why he fell this far (similar to Bowie). Yo Mama selects:
2.32 - Prince - When Doves Cry
Yeah, it’s been played a lot, but that’s because it’s so awesome. I’m sure I’d pick a different song on a different day, but we’re here now.
This is on my short list of “perfect” songs. It’s a masterclass of pop, rock, and funk (even without bass). The fact it was so avant-garde and was still such a commercial hit speaks to its range and appeal.
If I had more courage and musical depth I could go with an animals theme with Dogs and Doves on my list, but that’s too much work and there’s no way I could pull it off.
Love the Talking Heads... I would have went with Life During Wartime.Ok, try number two.
2.32 - Talking Heads - Girlfriend is Better
Another group with a wide range of potential “best” selections, but this has always been my favorite. A nice mix of all the best Talking Heads has to offer, and a nice funky beat to boot.
Leaving my When Doves Cry post up because it’s a way better song than Let’s Go Crazy.
Pick 2.33 - Mumford & Sons, Dust Bowl Dance
EditedIt might be best to edit your initial post as it still lists When Doves Cry as pick 2.32.
This song annoys me because he pronounces wanderer as a two-syllable word.and Hopeless Wanderer
So you're ok with being skipped?Leaving work in a few minutes and have some stops to make on the way home so skip and Ill pick around 430
Yes, I know my enemies3.02 - Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy
It was this or Nirvana for me here so Jzilla solved that conundrum.
This song rocks so hard and cuts so deep lyrically, it always been my favorite of theirs.
You’re up if you’re still aroundLeaving work in a few minutes and have some stops to make on the way home so skip and Ill pick around 430
Excellent. I would have gone with You Don't Know How It Feels, but it's pretty hard to argue with your choice.
Put’s a dent in my theme, but I’ll live on.
I'm not touching the spreadsheet, but can whoever is updating add Eephus' Joni Mitchell pick for RD 2?
Someone added it just now. It was "Song For Sharon"sure - what's the song? I took a quick scan and didn't see it
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' catalog should still be available, since "You Wreck Me" is solo Tom Petty.I love Tom Petty. I'm gonna have to bow out for a while. I don't know if it'll get to me before I return, but can someone take a few choices for me? If they all get chosen before my turn comes, I can be skipped.

The album Wildflowers (which You Wreck Me is off of) is solo Tom Petty. Most of the Heartbreakers are on it, but they are on it as session players. Full Moon Fever is also solo Tom Petty.
Wildflowers is the second solo studio album by American musician Tom Petty, released on November 1, 1994.

It's interesting. Paul, John, Ringo and George are available as solo acts, but they weren't John Lennon and the Beatles. Does that matter. I think technically simey is correct, but somehow she shouldn't be.I know that but it's not how we've handled "Blank and the Blanks" in previous drafts
This draft isn't those drafts, and Tom Petty has three solo albums.I know that but it's not how we've handled "Blank and the Blanks" in previous drafts
ETA: That's like saying Prince is still available because "Let's Go Crazy" was credited to Prince & the Revolution.
Paul McCartney has solo, and he has Paul McCartney and Wings aka Wings, etc. It's interesting. Paul, John, Ringo and George are available as solo acts, but they weren't John Lennon and the Beatles. Does that matter. I think technically simey is correct, but somehow she shouldn't be.

One of the first songs I thought of. Perfect for this theme as Dream On is an all time great song and the rest of the Aerosmith catalog never comes close IMO.
