Currently leaning against because we have a show two nights prior. That wouldn't have dissuaded us before 2020 but going out seems like more of an effort these days.

Why is that? I would think that more people would be home on the weekends (rather than at work) and would be able to make more picks. In my fantasy league drafts the rounds are finished quicker on a Saturday or Sunday than on any day during the week.

I was going to be the contrarian and pick their first single "Can't Be Sure" but had to admit to myself that "Here's Where the Story Ends" is objectively better.

The band made three records and then vanished into thin air, never to be heard from again.  There was a lovely longform piece published a couple of years ago about fandom, nostalgia and the writer's pursuit of the band.

10.x - Anthony Hamilton - Do You Feel Me

one of the great contemporary soul voices, Anthony sounds like a throwback, while also being current. he's one of those guys that could sing the phonebook and it would sound great, but I chose this song because it really leans into the soul. very Otis Redding-like.

Oh hell yeah, love this pick.  I've picked "Comin from Where I'm From" a couple times in the past.

I think lots of people treat these things as a diversion from work and mainly do their FBG’ing during work hours. We keep a more leisurely pace over the weekends so these things don’t get in the way of life too much. 
 

Now it’s always appreciated when people know they’ll be away for the weekends to go on skip so we don’t get completely stuck.

10.20 - Metric - "Stadium Love"

Bit of a sneaky copout pick here, as this is a quintessentially Canadian band, but Emily Haines was born in India so it'll meet my criteria since I've already crossed Canada off the list.  Raised in Ontario, but her mother ran a school for underprivileged children in India.  Coming up with 20 different countries for songs you actually like is a tough game.

Plenty of other Metric options, and other options with xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxx, but this is a fun one.  Any given day, I might say "Twilight Galaxy", "Dead Disco", "Combat Baby", "Synthetica", "Help I'm Alive", "Gold Guns Girls", but I'm feeling this one today.

This came before their biggest hits (single-only in the UK but included on the US version of On The Third Day) but was their first and best attempt at moving their string-heavy sound into more accessible pop/rock territory. It's much funkier than what we usually got from them and still has the memorable hooks of Mr. Lynne's best work.
