THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (2 Viewers)

Another idea and then I'll just leave it be...we could allow them two picks per round to give them a full draft, instead of having them making it rain all at once.
I was just going to suggest this

This is a good compromise since we can't assume they have the same tastes as NV, RA and Zilla (NTTAWWT) and, as I stated before, there are 100's of thousands of artists remaining for us to choose from.

Well, I'm trying to keep my playlist as diverse and eclectic as possible but with somewhat of a pop theme obvi.  Dua Lipa was sniped from me.  I need something more recent as I don't want to be perceived as the guy that only listens to Patsy Cline and Nina Simone in my free time(not that there's anything wrong with that) so I'll go with this banger.

MGMTElectric Feel

Oracular Spectacular is arguably the best pop/dance album of its generation and "Electric Feel" is arguably the best song on that album.   You couldn't go to a danceclub/DJ set in SF without hearing this song for about a 2 year span.  I saw them live at Outside Lands(SF Music Festival) and they sounded terrible but nobody cared because this was the jam of the time.

Great choice, that album is so good and I like the follow up better than most.

I guess you are up, at least based on the spreadsheet

Anyone (other than squistion, possibly) object to this?

squistion, if we go this way, I hope you will hang in there and see if this really causes you any snipes or angst, instead of dropping out automatically.  This seems like it could be a positive solution to allow full participation by a couple of great music-lovers.

Love the background!!

I'm not a huge Eagles fan, but I like this one a lot.  Another I enjoy is "Take It Easy," which is a fantastic driving song.
I'm not the biggest Eagles fan either, but 1) a lot of my favorite bands/artists have already been picked and 2) I do love the song.

I'll try to pick a cooler choice with my next pick, but I will probably fail miserably. I like what I like.

11.29 Happy - The Wrens

I've picked this song before in one of these drafts but I have to do it again because it's a favorite and definitely the best from a band with many great songs.

Really looking forward to that new album!

Great album. "Kids" was always my "go to" from it.

11.15 Kool & The Gang "Hollywood Swinging"

They were, by far, the most successful of the seminal 1970s funksters transitioning to the 1980s. I thought about taking one of their '80s songs here - like "Tonight" or "Misled", both awesome - but this is another where my favorite broke the tie. "Hollywood Swinging" has it all - fantastic singalong chants, horns flying, massive rhythm section.

Great song, but I love the opening of "Fresh" too much.

I don't understand what is happening here. Are we having two people come in as substitutes for drafters who have left or are we letting multiple unlimited people in and giving them 2 picks per round?

Round 11

Lost Triumph and the Runaways (Cherry Bomb) from my list. Close call between this and Hell is for Children.

Pat Benatar- Heartbreaker

Talk about bangers...as a teenager I worked at a movie theatre and every night when we closed down our manager would play Benatar's greatest hits. I pretty much know all the words to all of her hits.  I saw her live about 15 years ago and she could still belt them out, really fun show and she sounded like it was 1981.

My Benatar Top 3

1.  We Live for Love

2.  Invincible

3.  Shadows of the NIght

I guess someone needs to make a decision....so I'll make a pick. What round is the pick from? I don't know. That can be figured out later. Will I snipe somebody? I doubt it. To use a fantasy football analogy, this pick might be equivalent to going Kicker in Round 1. But, I'm picking it anyway.

But, first, a little about me. I grew up in a small Canadian Prairie city (population about 150,000) in the 70s and 80s.There wasn't much musical diversity on the radio and my older Brother wasn't much help because his musical taste mostly sucked. I had to go in search of different music. If I heard a song I liked in a movie I would sit in the theater until the credits were done and find out what it was. Eventually I discovered a new music program on the local FM station on Sunday nights.I used to call in and talk music with the DJ while the songs played. There was also a music show on the local cable access channel (yes like Wayne's World) featuring a local record store owner and a local FM DJ. I didn't love both of their all time fave bands, but they introduced me to a wealth of new music.

I paid my way through University ( College) working as a DJ/MC for weddings, etc. on weekends. We used to play name that tune at the meetings where the Boss handed out our assignments each week. I was undefeated.

tl;dr version. I'm about to get my ### kicked in this draft.

My first pick: The Eagles - In the City

Let the mocking begin.
I like the Eagles too. My favs are Hotel California and Take it to the Limit.

Welcome!

11.x - Electric Guest - Dear To Me

this is one of my favorite groups from the current generation of...what are we calling this? electro indie pop? I really like their style though, mostly bright stuff with a catchy sound. kinda similar to Fitz & The Tantrums, Glass Animals, Portugal The Man, etc. they've had 3 albums since 2012, with a lot of really good songs if you like this genre.

Fan. Love This Head I Hold

I didn’t have many albums as a kid. Mainly just K-Tels and 45s. But I had The Long Run. “The Greeks Don’t Want No Freaks” will always have a special place in my heart.

The Eagles are a fine pick......hell I haven't heard of a good amount of the bands picked!  We like what we like..... My only strategy early in the draft, try and pick the bands I liked, that I thought would get sniped by someone else.  Now I'm just picking my favorite bands....who knows, maybe you will turn someone onto a band they havent listened to.

11.10 - Emmylou Harris - Boulder to Birmingham

Emmylou is better known as an interpreter of others' songs than as a songwriter herself. But she written a number of songs, contributing more as her career has progressed.

"Boulder to Birmingham" is one from near the beginning of her solo career and her 1975 Pieces of the Sky album.  The song was written in tribute to Gram Parsons who'd died the previous year.  Emmylou's songwriting collaborator was Bill Danoff who also wrote "Take Me Home Country Roads" and "Afternoon Delight".

You didn't respond to my post as to how the draft is now being handled.

:scansthread:  You know, it appears you're correct.

OK, non-snarky response:  it appears the two new guys are just taking over from Round 11 onward.  No one seemed to have strong feelings either way (other than you), and they've been inserted in the spreadsheet that way, so it looks like we're going with that.

Thanks Joe,

As is said above here, last night there were a couple particularly awful comments directed towards me, after a weekend of nasty comments (and apparently PMs) and I did hide the thread.

I didn't realize I couldn't unhide it and with that knowledge and retrospect it was undeniably a ####ty thing to do. My apologies.

This isn't fun for me anymore, and the draft doesn't need me to keep going, so I'm going to log out for an undetermined amount of time after this post but I'll leave with a final pick, my favourite Crue song, directed solely at myself.

11.06 - Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) - Motley Crue
I'm glad you owned this, NV. I was seriously disappointed in you for doing this, but that explanation helps. I remember you didn't exactly know about that power to hide threads because you had asked about it at one point in a previous thread and were therefore unaware of what it meant, IIRC. So that's okay. I don't think you knew.

That said, I was seriously disappointed with the comments and fighting and disagreements that the thread seemed to entail. I'm not assigning blame to anyone. I just wish it could have been a whole lot different.

That said, I've said my piece. I think there are replacement drafters or whatever and I'll gladly step aside if they want to draft.

Peace.

I got no problem with those two. But if there are any more let on to board this ship to draft, who are not replacements, then that is a different story.

Do what you want of course but I know I would rather have you and NV in the draft than not.

@rockaction I see you down there.  Come back, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

Aw, thanks krista. I was trying to figure out what went wrong because I saw NV post. I think I'll let my GB northern exposure draft. We PM every so often about magic football, and he's a good dude that should be included. I have no strong desire to finish up; best to have a worthwhile contributor. That said, I will comment from the sidelines if the thread ever feels like it could use it. Thanks again, k4. I hope everybody has a really good time with this exercise and that it brings everybody together. Peeeeeeaaaace.
