THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (1 Viewer)

Lots of likes for today's picks.

I've listened to a lot of Lucinda Williams since the start of the draft but I couldn't settle on her best song.  "Righteously" was on the short list though.

I've taken a lot of her songs in various drafts, but I think I've never selected "Righteously."  It might be her best song, though.

Gentle reminder that the Bears and Lions played on Thanksgiving Day, and I'm still awaiting reparations for watching it.
Oh, that's right. You gutted that one out. I was conveniently still sleeping after a night of lousy sleep. I could not bring myself to watch that one.

17.10 - Tracy Chapman - Baby Can I Hold You

This song plays over the end credits of House of Gucci. The filmmakers used the live duet Chapman did with Luciano Pavarotti.  The duet version matches the excess of the movie but even with Pavarotti and a full orchestra, the purity of the simple melody and the honesty of the lyrics shine through.

I think I'm out after twenty.

I'll be up for listening to some playlists if people post them.

I think I'm out after 20 as well but would look forward to continuing to read the thread and listen to other people's picks.  My list of Premature Tragic Deaths that I want to draft is getting pretty thin.

I think it’s obvious who is to blame and my future participations in these drafts will be based on whether he’s involved or not. I’m not really trying to create any further drama than we’ve already had but it’s almost like this one person is purposely trying to ruin this for everyone else. It’s both oddly fascinating and just plain odd.

For the purpose of listening to others playlists, I think 20 is a good number to keep it from being unwieldy. If we go beyond 20 I’ll stick around but will stop with my draft schtick and just add some songs from artists I like that are hanging around.

Big Head Todd and the MonstersBroken Hearted Savior

These guys actually had an album go platinum per Wikipedia, which surprised me because you almost never heard about them via mainstream media/radio etc.  I always thought of them as a regional band as I know they have always been bigger out West.

"Broken Hearted Savior" is my favorite song and I think their best although not their biggest hit.  I like it because it captures their distinct Western sound.

They would have been one of the bands that I would have added post-20 rounds. Love these guys - probably the song I would have picked, although Turn the Lights On would be in consideration as well.

Round 17.12

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

It's their best song. It's everybody's best song. It's an arena's friend, a soccer game's serenade. What utter devastating destructive constructive genius Jack White is. What a monster riff.
Shocking. Thought they were gone.

Well, I didn't think participating was a good idea to begin with and being 4 rounds behind goes to why I felt that way. I will just get busier, or more accurately, more distracted through New Year's, so I'll also opt out at 20.

Moreso, I got off message for some reason and the playlist I will post will cull a few picks to be replaced by some on my long list more akin to my original idea. Newer, chill, sexy/sultry. Easy on the ears at low volumes, background, subliminally get your partner thinking oolahlah. :)

I haven't read the last umpteen pages, but it seems I missed more poo, which is a good thing.

For my 14th rounder/Thursday pick I'll take the song planned to end the playlist. It will still be the last song. Lighten things up a little. And certainly, this is their best song.

14.xx/Thursday - The Lonely Island ft. Akon - I Just Had Sex

3 to go...

So let's officially finish off the draft at 20 rounds with one pick per day starting at 10:00 am EST.

After the 20 rounds we can start listening to and commenting on other participant's playlists. I'm sure at some point a new draft will start back up.

18.01 Who am I (What's my Name)?, Snoop Dogg

Ahhh, the pinnacle days of gangsta rap, where white suburban kids like myself dreamed of living in the paradise that is South Central Los Angeles.  I remember blasting this track through the halls of my private, 99% white liberal arts college during the first week of freshman year.  Man, Snoop would be proud of how cool I was.

This would be a good time to rally the charity draft again.  We had about 6 participants before things in this thread collapsed a couple weeks ago.  Click the like button again for those interested.  Again, there will only be three rounds and then a vote for a great chance to have $500 donated to your favorite charity.  Seems like a no-brainer.

before continuing I not only have some hard choices, but the epic ham leftovers are begging to be part of an omelette with some this amazing Panamanian geisha coffee. be back in a bit. :)

18.16 - Foghat - I Just Want To Make Love To You (1972)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky1RWCvxnGo

This band was so much more than Slow Ride.

This is off their first LP that has about 3-4 other gems. People told me that when they opened for Jeff Beck touring off this LP that they stole the show (supposedly they spent about six months rehearing for the album and tour, which they never did after that and it showed in the end product, both in the studio and on the road).

Honorable mention to their cover of the Chuck Willis tune Feel So Bad.

I clicked like but then realized I don’t know what I agreed to.

RD 18-Battle of Who Could Care Less - Ben Folds Five

Really loved these guys in college and this song is a banger!
I often draft them unless simey beats me to it. Love your song choice.

The WeekndBlinding Lights

If you don't like this dude, you don't like pop music and if you don't like pop music I'm not sure we can be friends.

He seems to be getting better, which is awesome.

I will make a total of four $500 charitable donations before Christmas.  The charity to receive each donation will be decided by a separate 4-round draft, each with its own theme.  The theme of the first draft has already been disclosed:  It's a beautiful Spring evening and you're driving home with the windows open after just finding out you received a promotion and a large raise. What song are you blasting in the car?

The draft order will be randomized and done snake style (I just increased the rounds from 3 to 4 to accommodate this).  After the drafting is done, I'll compile a summary of each team's songs and we'll each vote who we think has the first, second, and third best team (not including our own, of course).  The team with the most points wins and gets to name the charity I send $500 to.  Rinse and repeat for another three themes.  Should be easy, fun, AND competitive.

Ahhh, sounds very fun!  I would love following along but wouldn’t want to compete.  Do you have a separate thread for this?  Can’t imagine you’d have trouble finding participants.  Very generous of you!!

I'll start one as soon as we hit 20 rounds here AND I get enough people.  So far it's been tough getting people, honestly.

By the way, even if you don't draft, you can participate by voting for the best teams.
