THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (1 Viewer)

I will make a total of four $500 charitable donations before Christmas.  The charity to receive each donation will be decided by a separate 4-round draft, each with its own theme.  The theme of the first draft has already been disclosed:  It's a beautiful Spring evening and you're driving home with the windows open after just finding out you received a promotion and a large raise. What song are you blasting in the car?

The draft order will be randomized and done snake style (I just increased the rounds from 3 to 4 to accommodate this).  After the drafting is done, I'll compile a summary of each team's songs and we'll each vote who we think has the first, second, and third best team (not including our own, of course).  The team with the most points wins and gets to name the charity I send $500 to.  Rinse and repeat for another three themes.  Should be easy, fun, AND competitive.
I’m totally in, sounds fun

Okay, so I owe a bunch due to Thanksgiving weekend.  Lost a lot of stuff from my list due to my lethargy.  Anyway, let’s blast these out:

Round 14

The Offspring – The Kids Aren’t Alright

Going value here.  At one point this may have been my favorite band.  Feel very strongly that this is their best song.  Some other good ones are Half-Truism, Head Around You, and Dividing by Zero/Slim Pickens Does the Right Thing.

Round 15

Spagehog – In the Meantime

Yeah, I guess they’re a one hit wonder but hey, it’s a good song!

Round 16

Willie Nelson – Always on My Mind

If you want something less chalky, Somebody Pick Up My Pieces is a nice one.

Round 17

The Gaslight Anthem – ’59 Sound

It needs to be the acoustic version, so that’s what I linked.  Also like American Slang.
All great picks.

Apologies for my tardiness. I kinda checked out on the internet while traveling for the Holiday and kind of enjoyed it. I'll do my best to get caught up today.

Let's start with 14:6

Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster

Northern Ireland's answer to The Clash. I'll admit, this pick is a bit chalky. But it is their best. I was lucky enough to see these guys play live in the US a couple years ago and they blew several well known bands right off the stage.

I like this one pick/day format. I can go on making picks for quite a while, but I'm ok with the majority wanting to stop at 20.

Round 18- This artist went a little "kooky", but I think she still made some great music.

I still enjoy playing this album and love this song.

Sinead O'Connor - The Emperor's New Clothes.

15:28

NOFX - Stickin' in My Eye

If this song doesn't get you going, I don't know what will. Possibly the most perfectly crafted mid-90's punk song. Some people would argue for The Decline as their best but it wasn't on an album called "The Best Songs Ever Written By Us". It was nice of them to have the foresight to narrow this down for me. But it was tough to pass on "Bob".

18.xx  American Trilogy - The Delgados

This band never reached the popularity of a certain other Scottish pop band but I like them as much or even more.  Five albums over a 7 year span from '97-'04----consistently very good to great.  Wish they'd made more.

Never seen these guys live, which is a crying shame....

Melvin's Revolve......live!

I think most of the people in the room aren't sure if they should like what they are seeing/hearing and as it goes along they can't help it cuz it kicks so much ###!

I'm probably out after 20 too but will still follow along.

Got caught up in football, snow clean up and too many beers yesterday and got sniped on Megadeth. Angry Again for me today but probably 4-5 others including the ones mentioned depending on mood.

18:6

Drivin' N Cryin' - The Innocent

With all of the music that has come out of Athens, GA I think this band remains largely under the radar. They had a decent radio hit with "Fly Me Courageous" and then kind of faded from widespread conscious. But they've kept going and have made some great music along the way. Isbell recently covered "Honeysuckle Blue".  "Straight to Hell" is another great song.

Their hit came right before grunge happened, and then they had trouble following it up because they weren’t grunge and didn’t really fit into the other “alt” categories of the time.

Just reading about the 60+ people who got stuck for four days in an English pub due to a snowstorm.  They were there to see an Oasis cover band, "Noasis."

Stuck in a pub for four days with an Oasis cover band:  nightmare or worst nightmare?

Not the worst nightmare. Worst would be stuck in a pub for four days with these guys doing Pink Floyd songs:

OMG.  :lmao:

From the comments:  ".....this band would be pretty good if they got a different singer, drummer, guitarist and bassist."

I would say that the crowd was rather respectful under the circumstances, at least didn't boo or throw things (probably because they were performing for a breast cancer awareness show, although I would have donated money to any related charity just not to have them do another number).

Well as long as they had plenty of beer......I could think of worse things.  If the fake Liam Gallagher is as obnoxious as the real one though, someone prolly kicked his ###

"Another brilliant spin on a rock and roll classic from this talented bunch. This one alternates between a 3.73/29 and eleventy-four/8 time signature with multiple tempo changes, featuring a calculated, microtonal solo. The vocalist explores microtones as well throughout the piece. True pioneers, I'd say."
The best part is that there's more videos of them wearing different clothing at the same location - meaning they were asked back to play.

They are “outsider art” without having any idea what that means.
