Thoughts on Thomas Davis the rest of the season? Now that Beason is done for the year, is Davis a stud LB1 the rest of the way?

I picked up Davis before week 1. I am going to keep him active for the time being keeping in mind his upside that he showed the 1st half of 2009.

From Rotoworld

Panthers WLB Thomas Davis will undergo an MRI after leaving Sunday's loss to the Packers with a knee injury.

HC Ron Rivera was mum on Davis' status at his Monday press conference, saying only that Davis was "sore." Losing Davis for any amount of time just one week after losing MLB Jon Beason for the season would be a big blow for a Panthers defense that has gotten shredded in both of its first two games. Considering knee injuries have limited Davis to just nine games since 2008, there's reason to believe the news will be bad.

They put him on the strong side after 2 knee injuries. Nice.

:( Feel terrible for the guy. Worked so hard to come back, only to tear his ACL for the third straight year.

This is just brutal.

First thoughts:

Connor owners who prioritized him over better options last week may get a reprieve. Could well play in subpackages now.

Omar Gaither listed as backup, but Jordan Senn was first off the bench at times last year and Jason Williams has played WLB in the past, too. Williams has the highest upside for fantasy folks and he's also the strongest threat to Connor taking over as the second nickel backer.

Charles Godfrey gets an upgrade, too. I know they weren't all together on the field at the same time, but Godfrey competition at the edges of the defense continues to erode. No Beason. No Davis. No Marshall. More space for a Cover-2 safety to make plays.

davis was on the verge of greatness midway through 2009 before his first of three torn ACLs, it is a shame...

wow, CAR just signed him to a big contract, too... in retrospect, maybe they should have waited to see if he could get through two games before his knee exploded again...

williams finally got a little burn with the panthers and didn't look half bad in the process. i haven't heard anything about him in preparation over the offseason or camp, so i have no idea how he's looked.
