Thomas Rawls, RB, CMU/Seahawks (1 Viewer)

I wouldnt call Melvin Gordon garbage at all. Those who have watched preseason witnessed Melvin's extra gear , incredible speed and ability to break a long TD with ease. I'll give you that Matt Jones isnt an option but Gordon is ranked in the top 10 on fantasyindex and PFF paid sites. He looks ready to ROLL!

Rawls is also a top RB but ,interestingly enough, not ranked nearly as high as Melvin on either site..maybe an RBBC scare tactic ? I own both guys and I think each should flourish this season..

Melvin for Rawls is a wash for me. Ifnthe other party upped the stakes with a WR maybe I'd consider
Giving him this year and see.

I would have done the trade to get M Gordon. Seahawk's starter>>Charger's starter
but I like M Gordon vs possible RBBC.

Woodhead is still going to get a lot of snaps.
That's for the Chargers/Woodhead thread and I'm in the minority on this and that.
I like Rawls, I like C Micheal and I like the Seahawaks offense. I think we can
take P Carroll at his word on who the starter(s) are going to be. I think your
going to need both guys to be comfortable when you want to play a Seahawks
RB week to week for FF.

CMike is a bum. He couldn't even be a starter in Dallas last year when they needed a RB.

I may sit Rawls in week one by fully expect him to be the guy by week 3.

Here's what I don't understand and maybe someone can enlighten me...

The guy has been recovering for almost 10 months now.  10!

I don't understand how one more week is the key to him being healthy?  He's either healed after 10 months or he's not.  I can't fathom how one more week helps at all...

I'm kinda leaning towards Carrol playing games/misdirection and we will see a normal volume game for Rawls with at least 18 touches.

Either that or I can see this lingering for a couple more months not just one more week.

here's a theory...any chance that Carroll has known that Rawls was likely not going to be ready to start the season so he's spent a good bit of TC pumping up Michael's to give him the confidence to roll once the season starts?  I know Michael has played very well and he did likely have a career near death experience but Carroll is good at playing and motivating players.  It's also kind of surprising to have the script seemingly change at the last minute before the season where it seemed / sounded like everything was on track for Rawls only now to have a good bit of hedging / fuzziness regarding the situation.

If you are Pete Carroll and you witnessed a really effective Christine Michael in the preseason, you are not rushing back Rawls. It's one or two games out of a 16 game season.

The biggest aspect of week one is that I think the matchup with Miami is a slam dunk in favor of Seattle. If this were a divisional, Rawls may have been pushed a little harder.

I have Rawls and am treating him like a flex play this wk and expect no more than 10 touches.

For the season I'm not concerned at all about Michael... CM is quick and athletic and all but the guy just seems to "tackle himself" sometimes if that makes any sense. The guy just bounced around 3 teams last season a la Robert Turbin, but his name happens to be Christine Michael so we wind up with 10x the noise.

I agree (otherwise what was the point of keeping him over Pope?) but I think if we're in a similar situation a year from now Prosise will be the guy.  Long term, I think he'll take over as long as he can close the gap on the mental side of the game.
CMike was always a pre-season superstar and a regular season bust.

I don't expect that to change......expect maybe just this one week. The Dolphins are hot garbage on defense....I am talking seriously hot ####### garbage.

35-10 type win for Seattle. And I love the Dolphins (unfortunately).

If you have both it sucks to bench both. IIRC Lynch had several weeks like this then he would just do his thing on Sunday. I know Rawls has legit injury issues but also Carroll could be playing games.

If Rawls plays, he will play hard.  He doesn't want to lose his spot.  I had high hopes for Michael too.  I may still start him over Jennings

This kind of has shades of Kelvin Benjamin Snap Count over thinking. If Rawls is not on injury report I'm playing him over Michael.

I own both and am starting M Gordon as of now.  However,  if I had to choose between CMike and Rawls I would choose Rawls.   I just don't trust CMike.
And despite what some ball licking CMike owners might think because he was in on the last drive....neither does the coaching staff. The CMike owners will go down and burn badly with this kid. So be it.

Rawls needed some work and this last game he got his feet wet. IMO he will be the go to back more and more each and every week. And we all know....it's a matter of time before CMike implodes between the ears.

CMike is a #### tease/Italian sports car. Slick and fast but highly unreliable. Matter of time.

Rawls looked pretty spry to me on the field and is better catching the ball than I gave him credit for. Not concerned much about the YPC since they brought him in and ran him as a FB several times in short yardage situations. I still have doubts whether he'll be a "workhorse" in this offense but then again how many RBs are these days?

Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell said Thomas Rawls has "always been our starter."
Christine Michael started and outplayed Rawls in Week 1, but Bevell's comments make it clear that Seattle doesn't view him as their No. 1 back. Rawls will play over Michael this week and should easily top the 15 touches he had in the opener. Rawls is locked in as an RB2 against the Rams.

Well, that's what we wanted to see!

I have Rawls and CMike and have them both on the bench at the moment. Might have to put Rawls back in there, though this quote doesn't say much about the split this week, just that Rawls should be the guy going forward.

Welp, now I'm gonna have to go ahead and start him....

Rawls said he is looking forward to reclaiming the starter’s role.

“I think coach is pretty confident with it but I’m fairly confident with it also,’’ Rawls said. “So I’m excited to be out there. Evidently they named me the starter, evidently I’m going to have a huge load this week. So I’m looking forward to it.’’

:hifive:

I'll probably start him too, but I'm not expecting much. Have to believe the Rams defense is better than it looked on Monday and they'll be pretty worked up not only due to the butt whooping they just got but also because it'll be the 1st home game back in L.A.

Thomas Rawls - RB -  Seahawks

Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell said Thomas Rawls "embodies who we want to be" on offense.
"He's a physical runner. He's got the style that we look for, the tenacity that we look for," Bevell said. "As long as he's healthy, he's that guy." The strong comments explain why Rawls will start this week despite being outplayed by Christine Michael in the season opener. Both players should have a role moving forward, but it looks like Rawls will be the clear starter.

More of what other folks are already posting about.

What will end Sunday at the Los Angeles Coliseum is Rawls’ long, sometimes scary path of self-doubt on his way back to Seattle’s starting lineup. The Seahawks say they feel their replacement for the retired Marshawn Lynch as the feature back is ready for the 20 or so carries he would customarily get.

That’s with screws and a metal plate inside the bottom of Rawls’ left leg.

“When I broke my ankle, there was always the unknown,” Rawls, 23, admitted Wednesday about his first major injury.

“I wasn’t sure when I would get back. I wasn’t sure if I would get back out there ever again.

“But I worked hard, and I pushed toward it. And this offseason went great for me. This whole organization and this team took great care of me.”

Carroll has emphasized that last week was essentially Rawls’ “second preseason game” in his recovery. He played in one exhibition, the last one on Sept. 1 in Oakland, and got but two carries in that.

While Rawls recovered, Christine Michael took full advantage of his opportunity to regain the Seahawks’ trust in his second go-round with the team. Michael’s decisiveness while running and his professional preparation earned him the start in the opener.

But Rawls remained No. 1 for whenever he was ready to play fully.

“He’s always been our starter,” Bevell said.

Michael had 15 carries for 66 yards against the Dolphins. Rawls had 12 rushes for 32 yards.

Now, Rawls is ready to assume the majority of carries — and maybe earlier than most people expected.

But not Sherman Smith.

The Seattle running backs coach had a knee replaced this offseason. Smith spent many long days inside the team’s training room in physical therapy — next to Rawls doing the same thing.

His position coach was wowed with how fiendishly Rawls attacked his rehabilitation during the winter, spring and summer.

“He has worked his butt off,” Smith said.

Rawls admits: “I’ve been pushing it. The offseason was hard.

“And look where I am today: I am starting a game. I’m excited about it.”

This could explain the poor performance vs MIA last week. So, should we expect better things this week SEA homers?

But when I asked the Seahawks’ replacement for retired Marshawn Lynch as their featured running back about how happy he was to have Will Tukuafu back blocking for him at fullback, Rawls just about whooped and hollered and pounded his locker wall.

“Oh, my God!” Rawls exclaimed. “Big Will is back. I’m so excited, man. I just cannot stop thinking about him!

"Because when he gets in a game he breaks like three or four facemasks a game.”
