Thought's on Coke's Super Bowl ad (1 Viewer)

Where, in any of those tweets, can you tell someone's political background?
Because English as an official language is a political issue pushed by the right-wing.

If you see an ad where a hunter kills an animal, the vitriol will be from the left-wing.

This is not hard to figure out.

I thought the commercial was brilliant. Coke could not have paid enough money for the advertising these people are doing for them.

Here.
I wish we could deport every one of those people.
Why do you hate free speech?
I love free speech. Helps me identify the idiots that some may want to deport.
solid legal reasoning as always.
Feel free to dissect and criticize the legal reasoning there.
saying you wish to use free speech to identify those who are hopefully targeted for deportation all of whom are probably full US citizens with no place to deport too even if there was cause all while advocating a love for free speech seems not only oxymoronic but contrary to law.
Hint: wishing they could be deporting and seriously trying to deport them or two different things. There's also that whole hyperbole/sarcasm thing.

To be fair, you invited him to dissect and criticize your legal reasoning, not your style of prose. And I can see how claiming to love free speech while simultaneously wishing for the deportation of those who express views which you deem distasteful simply for holding such views would appear contradictory to some degree.

I never stated that I wanted or wished them deported.

Ah, you were just in favor of idiot identification. Definitely support you on that 100%. Got confused by all the back and forth.

Easy there Gunz.

Apparently an uproar has started over last night's Coke ad - the one where America the Beautiful was sung in different languages. Thoughts? Would you feel differently had the song been the Star Spangled Banner?

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2014/02/03/coca-cola-super-bowl-ad-ignites-online-debate/
Business decision in which they bank that those so offended that they'll boycott Coke will be outweighed by those who like the message of the ad and stick with Coke. Capitalism at its best!

I honestly would not have put it past them to stoke the fire as well. Costs them nothing to make some twitter accounts in advance to say "how bout that coke ad? Murica right fellas?"

Mind blowing that in a country built on immigrants and shaped by diversity people would have an issue with this commercial. I bet the Nativists here won't stop eating tacos, egg rolls or lasagna. I bet they won't stop fantasizing about Selma Hayek or cheering for every Miguel Cabrera home run. Do they own a Samsung phone or Panasonic TV? I don't get it.

Exactly. Those type of comments are usually made by liberals.

Money well spent for making some Twitter accounts and spreading the word.

Also mind blowing that folks are so committed and loyal to the language of those bastards that invaded us.

Surprised folks don't think we should be sending them our tax money too.

The backlash to the almost nonexistent backlash is what makes me think Coke stoked the fire. People are not just saying that's dumb. They are vehemently going to war against those "right wing, na tivist, obama hating, discriminating rednecks." And going out to buy Coke products in support.

The ad alone generates a mild "oh that's nice" reaction that would have been easily forgotten if not for the "dey took er jebs" crowd supposedly having an immediate irrational response.

It's probably out there but what languages are represented? Its not like Coke flashed a flag or anything to identify the origins.

On the other hand, they may not have done that to simply represent that no matter what, we are one nation in the world and we are beautiful.

Just a brilliant commercial.

Well let's check in to see what the readers at Breitbart had to say. There are 5727 comments so far. I'm sure Coke was responsible for at least 5627 of them. :lmao:

May I suggest though that you first go to the bible and read about the tower of babble, and the lessons it teaches.
Besides, how hard is it to say something like this ad cobbles together multicultural tropes to communicate an ambiguous, sloppy message of unification-diversity-tolerance. You can also say that this ad strikes an imperialist-colonial tone whereby American cultural norms replace other cultural norms. And yet you can also say that because the anthem is not sung consistently in English it degrades and undermines the effect of one of the most powerful, national unifiers: a common language.
Well Duh, if a company pushes multiple languages that is divisive and racist. When I go to China I don't expect to see signs in Spanish. Multiple languages do not bring people together, they divide and pushing a foreign language like Spanish onto an English speaking country is divisive.
If you want an add celebrating cultural diversity, sing the song in English, picturing people from different cultures in their cultural dress. That celebrates the American concept of cultural diversity combining strengths in the Americal culture and celebrates the American culture in general.

Doing what Coke did celebrates racism, divisiveness, and the idea that the concept of the 'American Melting Pot' is dead an buried and that America is now a country of competing (if not warring) ethnic groups where immigrants are not even tolerant enough or respectful enough of American culture to learn a common language, much less share a national culture.
It wasn't racist It was in exceedingly bad taste. This is a patriotic event for Americans. We speak English here. You want to hear another language or multitude of languages, then there is a multinational event called the Olympics - but use a different song.

The people at Free Republic are talking about it too.

We’re a melting pot, not a buffet.
“diversity” = perversity
If Coca Cola want’s multicultural America, why don’t they have their cans and bottles reflect all the different ways to say it on their labels? Don’t like their product any longer.
I don't object to immigrant citizens having their own language and ethnicity. But singing that song or any patriotic song in a foreign tongue dishonors this country. I would have preferred that they sang in English tinged with whatever foreign accent they posses. That would have demonstrated the singer's AND Coke's honoring of America
:lmao:

My problem with the ad isn’t the multiple languages. There’s nothing inherently immoral or illegal in singing ‘America the Beautiful’ in whatever language you want. The thing that I find offensive in the ad is the depiction of two adult males ice skating with a young girl... What’s going on there? Of course... More ‘LGBT’ propaganda.

I don't have a problem with it either, and as Tobias correctly said....the advertising they got out of it was more than just the 30 seconds they paid for.

It did get me thinking, though....what if they did the same ad with The Star Spangled Banner as the song? Would you still feel the same?
I probably wouldn't like it as much because The Star Spangled Banner is a terrible, terrible song.

Paid for by The Committee to Change the Anthem to This Land is Your Land
The Committee to Change America's Anthem to "Taking Care of Business" will crush you.

I see no issue with the Coke commercial.

I do have a question about the TO Hardee's commercial with the 2 white women. How would this be perceived if it were a white guy with 2 African American women fawning over him?

Curious? I'd think there'd be all sorts of outrage.

The joke is on all of you morons who thought the song was beautiful and showed how much of a melting pot we live in. I had some buddies translate it and it said roughly "Kill whitey, lets make the White House Brown, Kill America". It was funded by the same Illuminati that have hoisted Katie Perry, Oprah Winfrey and Beyoncé Knowles to their Luciferian success. If you rearrange all the letters in their names you come up with Hillary for President.

Nope. There are more than enough dumb people out there. No reason to invent new ones.

:goodposting:

Trolling idiots in mainstream advertising is underrated. Tons of free press with basically zero downside. Masterfully done by Coke.
:goodposting:

it is sort of like an honor to have people singing a song about how great america is in there own language so hey i saw it and was like damn straight on that brohans take that to the bank
SWC dropping Knowledge

Gotta love ignorant Hillbillies that think the universe revolves around America. 90% of these morons have barely left their trailer park in their podunk fly-over town, let alone actually travelled outside the United States and/or made any effort to experience foreign culture.

I see TONS of these "MURICA!" types down here in the south and it's pathetic.

Are the "God" haters in an uproar again?
I was watching the game at my Pastor's house. I was disappointed that he was the one who blurted out "Speak English" when the commercial was playing.

Love him as a Preacher, but his politics make me shake my head
This is where you went wrong.

ETA: The Internet handing millions and millions of ####tards a megaphone is proving to be a bad idea.

Hold up, aren't you the guy that posted a link to a "spray and pray" semi-automatic gun and then maligned the testosterone levels of those that did not rush out and purchase it? You have a very dichotomous nature friend.

So...what's the big deal with this ad?
Morons got their panties in a bunch because non-white people didn't speak American while singing the National Anthem.

(Note: There is no such language as American, and it wasn't the National Anthem. But, they blew a gasket anyway.)

Sarcasm, uh yeah. I would have accepted half or kinda kidding but full on sarcasm? No.

And I care exactly how much what you're analysis of my posting is?

Given your already highly suspect ability to separate shtick from reality, this post isn't terribly surprising. Que es de importancia.

Silly for being logical on this, but...From a FAQ on Answers.USA.GOV.

Official Language of the U.S.
There is no "official" language for the United States, although some individual states list English as their official language.
