Through 4 weeks, Which RB Handcuffs Have Been Worth Drafting? (1 Viewer)

I was just thinking that those who drafted Ben Tate so high must be regretting that decision right now. Maybe not?

I've never been a big fan of this strategy just because of the cost/benefit relationship. I mean, how many handcuffs are going to come in and save your season?

Now, sniping a handcuff late is another thing.

The only real cuff I can think of thus far is Fred Jackson.

Are there others? Is it worth drafting these guys if it costs more than say a 12th rd pick?

Joique Bell has been great. Knowshon Moreno was largely considered a handcuff (or at the least, a late round pick). Bilal Powell was considered a handcuff. Danny Woodhead was the handcuff. Snelling/Rodgers have been solid in relief of Steven Jackson. You mentioned Fred Jackson.

Whether you drafted these guys as a handcuff or on their own, they've been productive and startable.

This.

I consider Moreno, Jackson, Bell and Powell to be the best of the handcuffs drafted.

I don't think you can fairly measure handcuff's only 4 games into the season. You grab a handcuff because of risk of injury... that's a long term play. More importantly, you need to know that once crunch times comes along (playoffs for FF), you don't have a substandard starter. If you arent willing to wait it out a good 8-10 weeks with a handcuff then you may have been better off not taking them, and again, it's still too early to tell... we have 3/4 of the season still to go.

For PPR, Quizz Rodgers has helped. No TDs but plenty of catches and decent yardage totals. I didn't think he'd do this well after seeing him in preseason.

Well, its not Pierce.....
I guess that's where my mind was when starting this thread. Guys like Pierce, Tate, Ballard, and Ingram. Higher price, expecting a more immediate return, and not panning out.
Right around there are starters like Mendenhall, BJGE, Redman, Ivory who you aren't exactly pleased with

In fact you could argue that if you would of taken a chance on the 'cuff' in rounds 5-12 you would be happier on the whole (Joique, Powell, Jackson, Gio, + Vereen, Ballard would of been fine if healthy)

Its not like the old days when you drafted a handcuff and if the starter got hurt you had a stud on your hands. Nowadays with the emphasis on the pass, if the starter goes down the team usually goes to some kind of a committee. Long gone are the days where you can draft a Shawn Alexander (who backed up Rickey Watters) and Larry Johnson (Priest Holmes) and they can save your season. Not worth it to draft handcuffs IMO

I don't know

Most expected them to be RB2s if Foster + Rice missed time. We have had 1 week where Rice sat and Pierce performed like a RB2 that week. Foster hasn't sat yet Tate and Pierce have also performed like flex options in other weeks.

I don't quite understand the disappointment.

Im saying in the past alot of handcuffs came in to be RB1s.

FJax has been good, but Spiller has probably not been played by the Spiller owner. This week, Spiller sprains ankle and FJax sprains MCL so both may be out for short week Thursday night game.

Joique is top 5 in RB scoring in most formats

Gio, Jackson, Powell are all top 10-12 range

That probably speaks to the RB1 landscape being bleak more than anything.

The larger point is though, I think if you try and apply generic rules to stuff like this you usually end up getting burnt.

It's way too early to say that the handcuffs are disappointing. We see a ton of injuries to the RB position. Just this week, DMC and Alf got hurt. Who's to say Jennings and Helu Jr. will be mulit-week or even season long fantasy studs or just one week bye replacements. But they have value. The drafted handcuffs like Tate and Pierce have more value than the flavor of the week WR.

The only undefeated team in one of my leagues (and leader in points by a mile) is the guy that went

WR (Calvin)

TE (Graham)

and filled his roster with Welkers and Andre Johnsons types.

His "vaunted" RB cor that is crushing everyone is Moreno, J. Bell, FJAX, and B. Powell.

I picked the wrong week to try to make sense of the universe.
