Last year I think it seemed that Jacobs was probably just a better version of Ron Dayne. Has his performance this year changed your view. In his limited touches he has looked almost dominant. Is this a mirage, or do you think he's the real deal?

Brandon Jacobs played at Auburn with Cadillac and Ronnie Brown. He's looked better than both this season IMHO.

Can he take a beating in the full time role is the real question. I believe that he can, and yes, I have him stashed on my practice squad.

He reminds me of Tyrone Wheatley, but he seems to have that initial burst that Wheatley lacked.

I think being 6'4" 250lbs or whatever will wear down quick after 20-30 carries a game. There is alot of injury risk for the "upright runners". BJ is good to watch, he has great burst and speed, but I think durability will be a tremendous risk for the G-Men. I think they will turn to the RBBC model when Tiki retires.

I just don't see it. Sure, he's looked like an absolute monster when he's had the chance but tell me how many RBs built like him have been long-term answers at RB ever? If my memory serves me correctly it's zero.

He might be the guy for a season or two but long term the answer is no.

If Tiki missed some games, I'd say he'd be the man. But like the above poster said, he's just got a strange build to be a full time back. I don't see how he'd hold up. He can run over guys, sure, but, he's an easy target.

I see him more as a situational guy as opposed to a full-time back. I think they'll try to get a replacement for Tiki who is smaller and shiftier as a counterpart to Jacobs. Perhaps thunder/lightning, the next generation.

Jacobs clearly has the physical tools and ability to be a 3 down feature TB. He can run inside or outside. He can be elusive and make people miss or flat out truck guys. He can block. He can catch. And let's face it: with his size/ speed combo he's unique specimen. So this is uncharted territory. Comparing him to anyone else really doesn't make a lot of sense at this point.

Furthermore, he doesn't have a significant history of injuries so there's no reason to assume he has any more or less chance of getting a serious injury than any other back out there. The reality is ALL backs get worn down and nicked up after a 20-30 carry game let alone over a 16 game season. The guys that last a) just happen to be incredibly lucky and b) (as Tiki has been teaching him) are the ones that learn to pick their spots and avoid/ minimize contact when appropriate.

Regardless, discount my oppinion and doubt him all you want... At the end of the day all that matters is how the Giants feel about him. And they believe he can be THE guy and are grooming him accordingly.

Yep, it's a total lock. They will not even look to bring in any competition and will completely hand over the keys to Jacobs. I doubt they even add a backup.

He's probably a good replacement if you have Caddy.

Every running back is a target.

Every running back is an injury risk.

Every running back wears down over time.

Jacobs has shown that he can be a very good RB in the league. Should Tiki be gone next year, I think its his job to lose notwithstanding his "body type."

Upright running RB's can be taught to run behind their pads, but that takes work. People forget but Jerome Bettis wasn't always considered a great short yardage RB because of his tendency to dance a bit early in his career. As he got older he learned to use his body mass better IMHO and to run behind his pads. Stephen Davis was another example of a big back who learned to run more powerfully in the NFL, though with him it happened because injuries forced him into a FB role in 1998, and he learned about leverage from the lead blocking he did.

Jacobs is bigger than those guys, but the point is that he can improve the one area that people seem to most fault him on.

Jerome Bettis unavailable for comment as was Earl Campbell
