Terrell Owens has been medically cleared by his doctors to return to football, the free-agent wide receiver's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Wednesday.

Owens, 37, had surgery in April to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Rosenhaus said a plan is being formulated for Owens, who has been training in California, to hold private workouts for individual teams or to have an open workout for media and teams. Though Rosenhaus wouldn't specify where, the trainer for Carson Palmer told me that Owens had been catching passes and working out with the new Oakland Raiders quarterback at Athletes Performance Inc., in Los Angeles.

"I just watched him work out. He's great. He's ready to rock," Rosenhaus said of Owens. "He's been cleared, and we don't anticipate him having any problems being medically cleared by teams."

Owens, a 15-year NFL veteran, spent last season in Cincinnati, where he had 983 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Interest in Owens might be limited, although injuries and the need to spice up offenses could open up opportunities for the six-time Pro Bowl receiver. Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak said Tuesday that his team would consider signing Owens if he's healthy.

Rosenhaus said he hasn't discussed with Owens a report that the receiver recently was hospitalized, adding that it's a "non-issue."

The latest is that he is still trying to heal. He's not fully healed yet.

52% chance that he gets signed when healthy.

Terrell Owens ready to contribute

Published Wed Oct 19 6:49:52 p.m. ET 2011

(KFFL) Free-agent WR Terrell Owens's (knee) agent, Drew Rosenhaus, tweeted Wednesday, Oct. 19, that his client is healthy enough to step in and play for a team in Week 7. "I just watched Terrell go through a full football workout and he looked awesome!" Rosenhaus said. "He is 100 percent healthy and ready to play right now!" Rosenhaus is reaching out to teams that might be interested in Owens.

Do people seriously think T.O. wouldn't be better than several players in the league right now.

Who would you rather have right now, T.O. or MSW? T.O. or Ocho? T.O. or Lafell or Nanee?

There will be a market for his services. He can still be single coverage from a second corner.

I went ahead and picked him up.. the guy is a TD machine, no matter where he goes he can come in and produce.. he is definitely worth a flier over some other unproven fliers... if he lands on a team in the next few weeks he will definitely be WR3 worthy with upside...if he doesn't.. than drop him.. but he is definitely worth paying attention too.. I think TEN would be the best landing spot for him being that they are definitely in the playoff hunt with that passing offense with a revived Matt Hasselback in need of a WR.. to go with Chris Johnson it really makes a lot of sense... *hints* why the coach has vocalized that he is considering grabbing him if he is healthy

Considering what he accomplished last year I think some people are writing him off too early or at least underestimating how big of a contributor he can be if he lands in the right situation. Mind you he was injured, but if he is truly 100%, he is easily worth a roster spot.

My thoughts exactly. He is a physical freak of nature. A 37 year old TO is probably better thanmany starting WR's in the NFL right now. He had a good year last year catching 9 TD's. He can definately contribute.Landing in Tenneseee seems to make alot of sense. Hasselbeck can still produce and is accurate. TO would be a goodreplacement for Kenny Britt. He would force teams to respect the deep pass again.

IIRC, wasn't T.O. the #1 ranked receiver in the league for a brief period last year? He went into cinci and took the #1 spot from Ocho with ease. I'd say he's definitely worth a flyer if you have room.

Terrell Owens could play Sunday, Rosenhaus says

There have been doubts about whether free-agent wide receiver Terrell Owens, at age 37 and coming off knee surgery for a torn ACL, would be healthy enough to play somewhere in 2011—or ever again.

According to enthusiastic Twitter posts from his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, T.O. is ready to go if a team picks him as early as for Week 7.

Rosenhaus also wrote that he's already in the process of finding a buyer for Owens' services."I just watched Terrell go through a full football workout and he looked awesome!" Rosenhaus wrote late Wednesday afternoon. "He is 100% healthy & ready to play right now!"

"I will be contacting the teams today to inform them that is immediately available to visit and work out for them. He could play this Sunday!"

So if indeed Owens is cleared to play, a bigger obstacle will be finding a team where he is a good fit. It was reported teams such as the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers were interesting in acquiring a wide receiver before Tuesday's NFL trading deadline. Don't expect another receiver-needy team, the Tennessee Titans, to go after Owens, a year after they were burned by adding his prolific receiving contemporary, Randy Moss.

Although the Niners, one of Owens' former teams, were mentioned, they, right along with the Patriots, would be a long shot. It also might seem another one of Moss' former teams, the Oakland Raiders, would have the right makeup to take a chance on Owens, but don't count on it.

It's true Raiders new starting quarterback Carson Palmer played with Owens last season in Cincinnati. But considering the fact having T.O. as one of his top targets led to Palmer having an unhappy, uneven final season with the Bengals, it would be an unwelcome reunion.

it is funny how that article says the complete opposite of the news i originally posted... these damn writers nowadays...

this guy goes on to say how there is now way the Titans will pick him up.. and that Carson Palmer would not want to have Owens come to the Raiders... although the article i posted said that Carson and T.O. had been training together lol

He's going to play soon. There is no question about it.

He's in better physical condition than many guys at 27 years old.

But his agent will take his time to find the best fit and price for him.

Stay tuned...........

I simply don't believe them.

I don't think his knee is healed, and I think they are both trying to squeeze one more payday out of this guy. I think he could have a broken neck, but if he wanted Rosenhaus to say he was healthy, Drew would be pounding out exclamation points on his Twitter account.

I am ready to be proven wrong, and I don't know diddly about his rehab, or have any other expertise in knee injuries. I just know how long they normally take, and this just sounds a little shady. I know TO is a dummy, so if he is broke, I wouldn't be shocked, and I KNOW Rosenhaus is a weasel, so I don't put this even remotely past them. Hope I am wrong, and I may miss out on TO the fantasy savior, but I usually like not having TO on my team.

I don't know about Tenn, but I know the Raiders have 0 room open for WR's. they can't even find PT for Louis Murphy. Surprised they didn't trade some of that depth at the deadline

It isn't as if teams are going to sign TO based off of his agents twitter account. He is going to have to work out for them and prove where he is at and what he has to offer. So, I don't think that they would bother if he wasn't ready to show what he can do.

don't forget the medical staff will completely check him out...

Oh, I'd be shocked if he could pass a team's physical right now.

Of course, if a team wants a guy to pass a physical, they will.

I picked him up. I figure he's worth a roster spot for a couple of weeks to see if he lands anywhere promising. If there is anyone that could get back in shape and be ready to play it would be him. He's always been very well conditioned physically. If he did land with the Titans and can still run, he could be worth something down the stretch.

It seems too soon for anyone to return from a torn ACL. But... I will give TO credit, if anyone can do it, it is him. He's as hard a worker as I've seen, and I'll be very interested if he's worked his way back into form in such a short period.

It should also be noted that TO has one of the best football IQs for a wide receiver. He's very intelligent in picking up scheme and would make a quick transition into most offenses. Whether GM's want the clubhouse "risk" that he's developed a reputation for - fairly or unfairly - remains to be seen.

I could see TB taking a lookHe'd be a nice target for Freeman and take pressure off of MW. He could also mentor Benn.
First off, you would need to explain what "mentor" is to TO and second, I'm sure that you'd have second thoughts while the ink was still wet on the contract.
He could teach Benn a lot about how to play the WR position, How to use his body, how to make adjustments for the D. TO is alos a very hard worker and to my knowledge has not had any legal issues. I don't evene know if TO drinks alcohol.

OK, I'll bite. TB is one of the, if not the youngest teams in the league. M Williams, Benn and Parker at WRs and Winslow at TE. TO will not be on ST, so at the mid point of a season, you want to bring in a 37 year-old journeyman off of major surgery and take away valuable playing time from developing receivers?

Aside from aforementioned Tennessee Titans, TO Landing spots that make sense:

San Francisco: Granted, didnt leave on best of terms, but need is glaring w/ injuries

San Diego: Floyd/Clayton/V Jax banged up, could contribute in a big way out of slot.

New York Jets: With trade of D Mason, opening at WR3

Houston Texans: AJ injured, J Jones inconsistent

Jacksonville Jaguars: Mike Thomas OK, I know they resigned MSW but TO could step in and be #2 there.

I would be very surpsied a few of these teams:Baltimore - Torrey Smith has been okay for them. Doesn't seem in their style.Cincy - 4-2, are they really going to bring him back in?Det - Not the right attitude, Lions has turned away guys based on this (Schwartz is a big "right attitude/character" guy)

I think Detroit is probably pretty happy with their current targets, and they don't need any player that thinks they should be getting any of Megatron's targets.

doesn't look like Tenn is too interested or else complete coach speak.

Munchak said he's not sure if #Titans will attend Terrell Owens workout in California next week

I think Washington makes a lot of sense. And an outside chance for Denver. Yes, everyone is gonna bring up that Tebow won't keep TO happy, but I think TO would be perfectly content with Tebow's effort, and TO's big, strong, fast body type would go well with the sandlot mentality that Tebow brings. Denver has Decker and... Demarius Thomas is coming off an achilles injury, is still young and unpolished and aside from a very few very nice plays has yet to do it day in and day out. Royal couldn't memorize the playbook on Tecmo Bowl, and Julius Thomas hasn't even made it to the party yet.

IMO

Tennessee is positively interested and will work him out in Tennessee privately soon. The last thing they want to do is run up the price by being over eager. But they have a chance to make a run and TO would be a great addition for the stretch.

Washington may make sense, but I doubt they move for him based on locker room presence. This is just my gut on Shannihan's philosophy on players. He seems to like character guys in the locker room over talent. he thinks his scheme will make good players great (call it Shani-ego). And there is probably some truth to it.

San Fran makes some sense, but I'm not sure they would go for a round 2 of TO.

New York Jets makes sense IF Plax cannot get it going very soon. Like this week. They are paying him to be a threat, and he just hasn't been (to date). TO, if nothing else, will scare some defenses for a few weeks.

I would think Cleveland could be a fit also, although I haven't heard anything about them being even remotely interested. But they are desperate for receivers to perform and Little could benefit from watching TO in the West Coast.

Chicago is way too cheap.

Texans saw his recent act in Dallas up close. Not sure they are going to sign up for the popcorn. But it could make sense with AJ injured and the Texans losing ground lately. If nothing else, just to keep him from Tennessee. I think they are also playing it cool and don't want to get into a bidding war.

I don't see him in Baltimore. Just doesn't seem logically like a fit in the locker room there. Ray Lewis is the locker room. And Ray Lewis's ego is about all that can fit in that locker room. It's pretty big. Add TO into the mix and Lewis literally may kill him.

I think the Pats would be a great fit. Not sure if they are going to go for him, but Ocho aint bringing what they hoped from him when they signed him. Brady isn't getting younger. The window is closing on this team IMO. It really could be a good fit.

Just my thoughts.

I am skeptical. He is a year older and has had to recover from a serious injury. He will have to learn a new playbook.

I am skeptical. He is a year older and has had to recover from a serious injury. He will have to learn a new playbook.
I am skeptical that he is fully recovered. But I don't see the playbook being too big of a hurdle. I would be more concerned if he was a QB or a defensive player with different assignments. But a fly is a fly, a 20 yard in is a 20 yard in, etc. If he can run, he can play. I think I am a little more skeptical whether he can recover quickly enough to stay on the field. But he has been one of the best conditioned athletes in the NFL for a while. What he did in the Superbowl (coming back quickly) shows me that he knows his body pretty well. If anyone can, he can.

If you have room he is worth the stash.

Owens will workout next week and sign with somebody a few days after that and the ww frenzy will be on. If he lands in the right spot he could be a very solid contributor even at his advanced age.

I have no idea how anyone can argue that he's not worth a stash. It's true that 37 year old WRs coming off an injury are rarely good. However, it's also true that 36 year old WRs are rarely top-10 WRs - and T.O. was last year when he got hurt.

And it's only likely to cost you a roster spot for maybe three or four weeks to find out if he's got something left.

Coach Mike Munchak says the Titans may "take a look" at free agent Terrell Owens once he's fully recovered from his torn ACL.Provided he actually does return to full health, Owens would at least be worth working out for a team down to starting Nate Washington and Damian Williams in the absence of Kenny Britt. It wouldn't be surprising if Randy Moss has forever soured the Titans on declining, mercurial receivers, however. Oct 18 - 8:44 PM

could be a huge WR pickup if he really is healthy and the Titans go for it..
in other news Randy Moss wants to play for NE, xmas doesn't come for TO in October or November or the NFL
in other news no one cares what you do... news is news ... most of us are just using the forum for helpful information
TO is coming off of year in which he had 983 yds and 9 TDs in 14 G. Moss is coming off of a year in which he crapped out with 3 teams.
