Wright, DGB, Douglas, Mattews, Hunter, Turzili.
Unless Hunter takes a big step forward Matthews is at worst WR3
IMHO Douglas should have been cut already
Mularkey loves Douglas. Now they added Robiskie who does too. I agree 100%, but he isn't going anywhere unless Robinson wants to battle this early in his career with the HC.
Hunter took a major step forward last year- huge, giant, pick a word. Whis NEVER 'threw the dog a bone' with his WRs. DGB got more work when Mularkey (and injuries) took over.
The more distance from his time with Ten, I really want to use a curse to describe Whis' treatment of WRs.
Hunter played all three spots. Their "small WR" spot and the slot were very much not his thing when he came into the league. He was arguably the best WR in camp. He didn't have drop problems. Not one time was he called out for dogging it on routes or running the wrong one. He is open a lot and not hit with the pass. First time ever it is very much not on him. He wasn't really there for Mularkey change. I think one week.
On one site, he has an extremely high target to catch ratio. "Catchable passes" and targets type issue for the stats but if ya look at last year, you can see it's favorable.
Now he needs a team to use him. IDK if that's gonna happen in Ten or elsewhere. He always does well in camp and people note his huge frame and athleticism so I guess it's possible but to me he looks like he will thrive on a new team. He hit their criteria last year and they didn't throw him a bone. Development is done, time to bear fruit but...think it happens elsewhere.
Nothing on the O from the team yet, nothing. Still planning.
I'm over-anxious but it's march. They want competition everywhere. Matthews is the first normal WR they've had in a while. He is not huge and fast he is not tiny and super quick. He could have that sort of unspecial yet super reliable quality to him which then ultimately makes him oh so valuable. He was tops (IIRC) in NFL in catch to target ratio. He could lose a competition in camp with the others. It's possible. However once the season starts I bet he shines. This should play out in preseason and not be an issue. At first though the super athletes should impress.
I wanna know- even though he is GM and not coach- does Robinson want (Welker, Edelman, Amendola) a gem in the slot? I think with Wright and Matthews battling each other they could exit camp with a gem there if they commit to it. Mularkey does have to give him (or share) a plan so he can build accordingly. Is DGB Calvin like? Are they doing the main guy in the slot? What's the plan? You know, it's very rarely a perfect world with 3 excellent WRs. One is usually the focal point.
I think Walker is awesome but halfway difficult to get the ball to at times. I would like Mariota to have 'his guy' and that this is significant.
