I don't know if they need to "turn the franchise around" now. They are a legitimate playoff contender with some weak spots.
We'll disagree about the QB, but it would be shocking to see them take one at 3.
With 4 top 50 picks they can take the BPA at 3 and address other positions like WR and RB later.
Just a possibility, sewell at 3, best receiver (waddle or Marshall) at 18, najee at 35, then add to the defense. That's what I'd do today (could easily change by the draft)
I agree and like a lot of what you say here.
-I feel like most of the time, teams that take skill position players high in the Top 5, Top 10...many times it doesn't work out because the team isn't really strong in the trenches where you need to be in order to exploit the skill position players.
-I don't know that Tua can exploit a true WR1, a top5 potential prospect like a Jefferson for Minnesota. The Miami Offense right now...is Chan coming back as the OC? I doubt it and Fitz is a free agent...what does Miami do with him?
-Miami will be entering Year 2 of the Rookie Playbook but they will be in Year 3 of Flores which is great, they took a 12 month approach of getting things ready for a Rookie QB, I just wonder if they should maybe punt and keep going with the Defense and the OL, maybe they need all new QB, RB1, WR1-WR2...Gesicki should maybe be in the long term plans...not maybe he should get a new contract as early as this off season. Might not be top dollar if they can get something that is good for both sides.
-Miami secondary despite what Josh Allen did yesterday is a pretty good unit and they have a lot of bodies that rotate thru there, many of them I think are decent like Needham and Perry and other guys you don't see or hear as often when it's 1st and 10, these are the Nickel and Dime packages.
-Miami had like 40 sacks coming into the game yesterday, like all teams they could definitely use an Alpha-Sack leader on the edges or OLB/DE, but Miami runs a 3-4 and there just won't be a lot of sacks coming out of a 3 Man DL unless they blitz and the types of LBs they are running with are more on the athletic side. I like what Van Ginkel is bringing and think he might be a perm starter going forward. Roberts and Grugier-Hill were 1 year deals and I expect them to actually receive an offer or two from other teams. Miami might have to use at least 1 of those top 50 selections for at least 1 and perhaps 2 impact Linebackers. I like Kyle Van Noy but what's the plan in another year or two because he will get old and Miami will not want to give him another contract after this one although I love his leadership and believe that both he and Ogbah were sensational signings.
Miami as a whole did very well in free agency last year, most of the guys they brought in were big contributors in one way or the other.
Thanks for giving me something to go deeper on the game plan going into the off season.
