I thought I remember reading that he is a UFA in 2007, but he's not listed on Football's Future's list. Anyone know for sure what his contract situation is?

He's definitly going to be on the market. Clearly the Redskins can't find much use for him. (Snyder, what an idiot).

Panthers is my prediction if Eric Shelton doesn't pan out.

Thanks guys. Anyone know of another site that lists next year's FAs?

I think Washington extended him.
No. They may have expressed interest in doing so when they acquired him, but it's not happened (yet). Of interest, Ladell Betts is also a UFA after this season. How that affects things with Duckett I'm not sure.

Duckett says he wants to start. Portis is the starter here. Duckett will play this year and then move on.

Of course Synder may end up making him a ridiculous offer he can't refuse but I'd say he's as good as gone after the season.

THe idiot, if there is one in this case, is Gibbs. Snyder had nothing to do with this trade. The use Gibbs has for him is that Portis already got injured and they obviously don't think that Betts can carry the load. He's a backup just like he was in Atlanta. Nobody is more down on Snyder than I am but anybody who follows this team knows that Gibbs is behind ALL football decisions.

:goodposting: I too will be very down on this trade if they don't resign Duckett. That would be the only way for that trade to have made sense for them. Renting him for a year isn't worth a 2nd rounder.

Stranger things have happened, though, and Gibbs has caused other people to buy into lesser roles on his teams than they would accept on others, so we'll see.

And correct, Snyder is not the decision maker in personnel decisions.

Riggins interviewed Bobby Beathard on his show a couple of week ago. Beathard LOVES Duckett and said something about him not getting along with the OC down there in Atlanta and that this was the primary reason that he wasn't starting ahead of Dunn(yea, hard to believe but that's what he said). When they drafted him it was because he was the back they wanted to run in that system(again, this is what Beathard said). He went on to say that he thought that Duckett was definitely starter material in this league.

Is that what you meant?

Yep. Said he's a top talent and that the skins were lucky to get him. He also thought that he was perfect for the system that the Skins are running.

Interesting. I respect Beathard on player personnel matters, so that's thought provoking. Now, how you reconcile that potential with the presence of Portis on the roster, I don't know.

I say that one of them is gone and since Portis has the big contract, it's probably Duckett. Duckett has said he wants to start. I suppose if he thinks that he can win a championship here he might extend for a year or 2 but I'm thinking he wants to cash in. Not a player in the league who doesn't want that big payday. They all know how short their careers are and they look for security first and then worry about championships. With Duckett, he wants the payday AND he wants to start. I think that Portis is perfect for any system. He can pound it between the tackles(like we saw last year) or rune it around the end, make a cut and take it to the house.

btw-I too respect Beathard on personnel matters. He's the one that built those championship teams when Gibbs was here the first time. Gibbs, on the other hand, doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to souting talent. Skins drafts were not the best in the world after Beathard bolted to the chargers(and he left primarily because Gibbs ended up with more power and was getting too involved in Beathards area of expertise. Beathard would never have drafted a guy like Desmond Howard. That was ALL Gibbs).

I had also thought that Duckett was a free agent after the season, but after looking up his contract, he is signed through the 2007 season. Going into 2008, he will be an UFA.

The last season of his deal voided. He's an UFA after this year.

Duckett = Aflac

Gibbs wanted to make sure there were no excuses to why they couldn't have a run at the SB. I think he wanted to make sure that it was solely on their play and not because they don't have the players, even if injury occurred.

Gibbs believes the Skins have a legit chance to win the Super Bowl. He is just ensuring that an injury to their starting running back does not derail them like (as Gibbs may perceive) it did last year.
