Tomlin won't guarantee Big Ben the qb when he returns (1 Viewer)

If Dixon continues to improve these next few games, and they win out the rest of the suspension games, and if Ben loses is first game back, this QB debate will transform to QB controversy in Steeler land, at least amongst the fans...

I think the fans like Super Bowl rings. :) ...which is something Ben could realistically give them this year. Ben will start.

You are reaching so far here you dislocated something on your arm. Dixon needs en entire year of grooming/games to sniff him There is no question who the starter is and its not close.

Have you watched this team this year? Their D alone could possibly give them another ring. Adding Ben back into the mix only enhances that possibility. And for anyone still thinking that there is any chance that Ben won't start in week 6, I can only say... :lmao:

 Is there any other situation Tomlin could have succeeded in other than Pitt? The guys sounds like a tool when he opens his mouth.

 Roethlisberger, sans helmet, can now probably started riding wheelies on his motorbike on the way to the local college bars every night without fearing repurcussions from Tomlin or the team brass.

Tomlin has plausible deniability -- he can wave it away by saying he didn't REALLY mean to suggest that Ben had any risk of not getting his job back. That was just the media twisting his words.

As long as Ben has a pulse, he will start in week 6 against Cleveland. Dixon had his chance and it didn't work out. Lefty or Batch will start the next 2 games. At this point, I think that ARE would do better than Dixon.

The dude is a train wreck.

There was never, repeat : never, a shred of doubt as to who would be starting when Roethlisberger returns. I don't care if Dixon was 35-36 for 450 yards and 5 TDs right now. Roethlisberger was never in ANY danger of losing his starting job. He is undeniably one of the best 5 QBs in the NFL, whether or not his penis is out.

You're in denial, then. If they can avoid any more major injuries on defense, they're going to be as tough to beat as any team once Ben returns. With an actual offense to go with this defense, I'd wager (or consider wagering) on them on a neutral field against any team in the NFL. No one in the world expected they'd be 2-0 right now having played against two solid playoff contenders. I'm just pissed they're going to have to play a divisional game without Roethlisberger.

I'm guessing he'd fall into the 10-12 range if he tried playing with his penis out.

Steelers fans couldn't have asked for a better way to start the season. IF the defense can stay healthy then they will be among the better teams in the AFC when Roethlisberger returns. That said, this is only week 2 so a lot can and will happen. I am just hoping for a victory next week in Tampa.

He'd be easier to sack.

I am not a Steelers homer...

But, barring injuries, they have to be considered the odds-on favorite to win the super bowl this year.

The defense looks absolutely incredible, and when you add Big Ben to that? Watch out.

Steelers place quarterback Dixon on injured reserve

By Scott Brown, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW

The Steelers have placed quarterback Dennis Dixon in injured reserve, ending his season, and signed defensive tackle Steve McLendon from the practice squad.

With nose tackle Chris Hoke (knee) out for Sunday's game against the Ravens, the Steelers needed an extra defensive lineman. McLendon played in the Steelers' 38-13 win against the Titans on Sept. 19 and recovered a fumble in that game.

The move with Dixon solves the dilemma the Steelers would have had at quarterback when Ben Roethlisberger returns from his four-game suspension Monday.

Roethlisberger, Charlie Batch, who will start against the Ravens, and Byron Leftwich will be the Steelers' three quarterbacks after this weekend.

Man, thats rough. A few weeks ago the kid was probably hoping to play well for 4 games before Big Ben came back and impress the rest of the league, be the #1 backup for the rest of the season and then parlay the situation into a starting gig a-la Matt Cassel. Now, he's done for the year. Things change quickly in this league...

Paging Shaun Smith...

As a Packer fan who had visions of the Suprerbowl before Grant got hurt I must say that those visions, even with Grant, would have had a tough time coexisting with the way the Steelers look. They are playing some incredible ball right now, and one has to presume they will be markedly improved when their starting Q.B. returns.

I wonder though, had they shown the integrity to have shown Roethlisberger the door, and maybe gotten a solid mid tier Q.B. in return, might they have still had enough to have a great team. I think so the way the Defense and special teams are playing right now, and I think in the end some Steeler fans would be more comfortable with the integrity trade. It is a foregone conclusion that if they make the playoffs and win the big one that detractors will be trying to rob their zest with the Roethlisberger saga. It would probably be nice going foward without that baggage.

Regardless, I find this a remarkable team right now, accomplishing what they have under the circumstances. This is quite a tribute to the coaching staff. Very impressive.

 The guy gets suspended 4 games for not being charged with anything. Sure, he was stupid to be in that situation being who he is but the woman in question is 20 years old at a college bar. It's not like he was having sex with a 14 year old at a youth convention. Nobody knows what happened. The situation wouldn't even make that papers if this was Joe Blow. And we all know that every other player in the NFL is a saint. Mark Chumura Packer fan??? The best Packer of all time was sending pictures of his junk to a female reporter....WHILE he was married. Ben wasn't cheating on anyone.Ben will win and there won't be any baggage. I hear some Steelers fans saying that the Steelers should have cut him too. Stupid, just plain stupid. I hope he realizes who he is and doesn't screw up again. I wouldn't want him hanging out with my daughter but I'll take him as my QB any day of the week. Charlie Batch, although a great guy, isn't going to win anyone a Super Bowl. Ben will....again.

I didn't mean to "lash" out but I get tired out hearing that the Steelers should have cut their 100 million dollar 2-time winning Super Bowl QB for not being charged with anything. Some Steeler fans are calling in the local radio stations and saying the same thing. Bradshaw says in on the pregame show. The only reason he says it is because he wants to go down as the greatest Steeler QB. I think it's crazy that Ben got 4 games for doing what hundreds of other college guys do every day and these other guys get into bar fights, DUIs and all sorts of things and don't get anything. After going 20 years with "average" QBs, I know how important it is to have a franchise QB.

While I agree a franchise Q.B. is important my point was that this team, the defense especially, is playing at uch a high level that they could easily be one of those teams to win it all with a game manager Q.B. instead of a franchise Q.B. It was a testiment to the defense and then stating the obvious, that detractors will surface and latch on to the most current, obvious, open wound to work their drag on the moment.

But as we saw last year...an injury to one or two guys on that defense they become pedestrian. And then we'd be sitting there with Batch as our QB needing to put up 30 points every week. I just hope the defense keeps it up and we don't have a let down when Ben returns. I know they are profesionals but I see the sense of "stepping up" and going above and beyond because Ben isn't there. If Ben comes in and is sharp (and I believe he will) and the D stays dominant we may be looking at a 7th ring.

Unless Ben has sex with someone in a public bathroom in the next 5 weeks, there is zero chance that he doesn't regain the starting QB spot when he returns.
So you're thinking Big Ben probably doesn't start Week 5?Or maybe you meant "non-consensual sex," in which case it's probably about 50/50.
I'll bet everything I own that Big Ben doesn't start week 5... Any takers? Name your price..
