Tony Romo: Broadcaster (2 Viewers)

Maybe, but I seem to recall Gruden signing a pretty big contract.
Yes Gruden is paid $10MM a year - that’s very high for an NFL coach.

I think @shuke was just saying that Romo isn’t going to leave to coach when he can make more as an announcer - especially if he had to start off as an OC.

I can never hear the sound when I am somewhere watching the super bowl, I hope someone updates this thread so I know what Mr. Romo is saying during it.

Freaking great point by Romo there.  Everyone likes to kick the FG then onside and hail marry.  Better off throwing the hail marry first while the defense is only in a soft prevent and not in full stop hail marry mode.

It was, but I’ve always thought that was fairly obvious. Romo does a lot of great things, but I think most of it is calling out obviously stupid things that old man football coaches still do. Half the coaches in the league should be out due to performance, but it’s more of an old boy’s club than any other sport.

He was really unlucky to get that game for his first super bowl but he did the best he could with what he had to work with.

I thought he did well considering how bad that game was.  I did think it was funny how he effectively said that the Rams should decline both Patriots penalties on the play towards the end of the game fairly instantly--when the Rams themselves were about to accept one before realizing it was the wrong move.  I'm a fan of his commentating.

Romo's great but I got sick of him constantly banging on the, Patriots feeling disrespected and taking on the underdog role, drum.  Only morons were sticking a fork in them earlier in the season...it was far from the vast majority.

Interesting that Romo is supposedly wanting $10 mil a year for broadcasting...

If Aikman is getting $7.5 million a year, Romo deserves more than that dumb neanderthal.

Interesting.  You'd rather hear an overly excited scratchy voice up in your ear all day long?

At least with Aikman, you can drown him out.
Yeah, I would. I like having someone break things down. That's what I expect from an analyst. I'm not a football expert, so once in awhile it's nice to hear something I didn't know.

Good god, 10 mil a year?  That is nuts, he sucks.  What is it that people like about him?

How so?  Just curious what you love about him.
He's the best analyst in the business right now and it's not even close.

His analysis is typically spot on and he distills it in a way that is accessible to both hard core and casual fans.

Virtually every other analyst provides us with some tired version of same "They need run the ball and stop the run." drivel we have been hearing for years. Tony tells you what is going to happen and why. That's great stuff

If his worst offense is to occasionally be to enthusiastic then he's doing a great job.

Make sure to use a condom.

Romo could miss Sunday's Vikings-Bears telecast if he makes PGA cut

So if he has a decent round or two, we have to suffer?

got NFL Game Pass this season so i don't have to get stuck with Romo 20 times a year

it's glorious. have only heard him for about 3 minutes while the game i was watching online went to commercial so i flipped to a different one.

took about 10 seconds of hearing his stupid shtick before i had to tap out. RB gets the ball, goes through the line, shakes the first defender & gets tackled for a 4 yard gain.

"WATCH THIS, JIM! THIS IS GREAT STUFF! i'm the running back here, Jim! I'm going to run straight at you and OH BOY NO I'M NOT! I'm going to fake right, go left and good luck catching me! I'm that good! oh boy!"

puke

the game is the show. the commentators are background noise to fill in the gaps... not to take over the broadcast with non-stop rambling, talking over their broadcast partner, etc. he's trying to be the star of the show. the game is the star, not the broadcaster.

but maybe this is the video gameization of all things. can't play the games anymore. instead people prefer to watch some 23 year old kid screeching narration as he plays Minecraft for 14 hours a day.

Or maybe it's the if-people-like-something-someone's-gonna-feel-obligated-to-complain-about-it effect.

Romo's the best in the business and it's not even close.

The "Your job, which I have zero concept of how it works, looks easy. You suck!" shtick is also a classic.
i think we can all agree that talking about football isn't hard

just don't over talk about it

and by god keep the video game noises out of it

here's to hoping he wins a golf tournament and thinks he can have more fun on the PGA Tour.

Talking about football is easy.  Doing it live, strapped to a microphone with millions of people listening for 3+ hours is not.

Give it a shot. Do it for an entire game, record yourself doing it and report back.

simply doing it doesn't make one good

i get it America wants Tony calling games while bare naked on a bearskin rug like Burt Reynolds.

it wouldn't make his incessant predictions (ZOMG!?! ONLY TONY ROMO OF ALL FORMER NFL PLAYERS KNOWS WHAT PLAYS ARE COMING!?!!?), video game noises or imagining what a player is thinking/saying ("oh, i see you linebacker! you think you can catch me but you can't!") as form of analysis any better.

when an NFL game is on, i'm watching because of the sport. i understand that some people watch just to hear Romo and don't care about the game. doesn't make sense to me but i understand it.

it's like going to a Super Bowl party. the game is on. i don't want to hear an MLM pitch from my buddy's wife's friend who tagged along to sell Tupperware. there's a game on and the self-promotion is distracting from what i'm interested in.

Very few of them predict plays live.  And Tony's the only one who makes a habit out of getting it right.  And it is a terrific form of analysis.

He's the best in the biz.  You don't like it, I get it and that's perfectly fine.  That's why G-D created the mute button.
