TOO MUCH WHITE!!! (1 Viewer)

Anybody try out the search function yet? I typed in Forte and got 3 results none of which were the main Forte thread and when I searched by thread title 0 results.

I'd say its as good as ever. Oh and I like that I can't preview a post before I submit.  1 step forward 3 steps back.
What was the one step forward?

I have been on so many message boards over the years, I don't even want to get into it.

I have helped manage quite a few too.

All I can tell you is that most any board worth a damn has the ability to change skins, and each user can use one that he likes or at least one he considers "manageable". Normally a few clicks and attempts and resetting it, then having a look at a few is all it takes to find one that is more pleasing to that particular user.

I will admit that I haven't tried tinkering with this one much, but offhand I don't see a way we can customize this look at all.

Is this board one of the very few that won't allow that???

Or have the founders here simply locked that option, forcing us to use this one...?

Not that it matters, but I would like to know the answer to this.

I'm not sure the situation.  I know there was a skin intended to be the default which something went wrong with and should still be coming. From MT's post apparently mods/admins have an option for changing themes but I don't know if that is a setting that can be extended to all users or if the board only allows it to certain types of users. From what I've heard things that used to be settings like number of nested quotes, are now locked down in the board software itself and can't be changed. I don't know if the themes stuff is one of them or not.

And reposting for those who didn't read it earlier.

There are indexes that have to go through a rebuild before things like searches and posts you responded to will work for pre-upgrade posts. I heard with the number of indexes to rebuild (several dozen) and the size of our board those things will be coming online over the coming couple of days.

Where are signatures?  How will I know who's on everyone's roster and how many championships they've won now?

At least pages are updating again without exiting the browser and reopening to FBGs.  So I'll take that win.

Quoting the above as an example. Invision removed the ability to set number of nested quotes. You can only have 1 post's quote in the quote box. The reason I'm sure is that more than just a few nested quotes completely destroys the ability to read the post on mobile.

But, you can have multiple quote boxes from multiple posts.  So just go and click the big + next to the Quote button on the posts you want to appear in yours. Then at the bottom it will say how many quotes you've selected to include.  Click that and it will put them into your reply area.

May have been asked already, but,

Some images are about a half page, how can I make things smaller.

This is pretty bad football guys.  I'd give 3/10 - could be worse, but you'd have to try real hard.

On my phone whenever i click a topic it takes me to the beginning of the thread. It sucks searching for the post I read last.
If you click on the dot (or star for posts you replied in) it should take you to the first unread post.  If you click on the title it probably takes you to the start of the thread, same as it does on desktop.  Invision is probably trying to make both mobile and desktop look and act the same, like most other software developers these days.

I agree with this.  I've always thought it was stupid to see team rosters in a signature.   I do like to put the leagues I've won from the previous season in my signature, but I can do without it because I don't really care.
People put their team in their sig because they are mainly here to improve and talk about their team.  So when they post asking for advice/help.  The relevant info is right there, handy.

People put up championship banners in their sig because they're d-baggy.

See the difference?

I exceeded my maximum number of likes agreeing with everyone who said this new format is not so good. I think I'm getting a sunburn looking at the site and I don't like the quote system

I would rather see what leagues you won last year than look at your roster knowing you probably need help frequently.  Also it isn't d-baggy to proudly display your league championships from the previous year.

Oh!  It's a thread about the site's appearance.   No, I don't like it.

I thought it was about the Patriot's receiving corp.

48 hours is more than enough time to have fixed this ####.

WTF FBG?!

Maybe when DraftKings or FanDuel want it fixed, it will happen.

I guess this is the skin now, but obviously the inside of threads are still very white without much else but text there. The edges got adjusted to grey though you may not see it on a smaller width window..  Seeing if we can get the background shaded.

Used to be easy for me to surf this board on my iPhone.  Not anymore.  This sucks.
This.  How do i manage white space; font size, etc?

Dont expact me to spend money on some craptastic app either...

If anyone is paying attention, I agree with everyone in this thread. This new skin is a pretty good way to kill the board.  It's giving me a headache.

Yeah, hate to pile on, but the new aesthetics are awful.  Way too bright, and tons of wasted space.  Hopefully the design will evolve some more.

I don't see how many of you browse most other sites without apparently blinding yourselves.  Go look at a lot of other popular sites and you'll see a lot of (gasp) white.

The borders could use a bit more contrast to help, but a white background is basically the norm unless it's done right.  Otherwise it looks like a site from the 90's.

Nice. I was about to break out Danny Ainge joining Bird and McHale.  Yours was better.  And you, know, from this millenium.  Sum#####.

I think something changed.

ETA: seems a lot better
Na, nothing changed.  Perhaps what changed is the suggestion that it isn't really any different than most other sites.  Whenever anyone points out how bright it is, I even see it as bright for a short time even though I know it's not especially bright...power of suggestion.

More of the light grey was added to try to break up the white.  Not sure where all, but the grey border around each individual post was definitely white before this latest round.  The side panels are also grey depending on the size of your browser.

EDIT TO ADD:  Found out the entire background of each post was also made less bright.  It's actually a slight shade of grey now.

I prefer to not be one of those people that complains about a free service.  I definitely preferred the old format--but I will still be an active member of the Shark Pool.   I also think that it is obvious that the FBG staff put a lot of time, effort and resources into the forum with the intent of making things nicer and cleaner for it's members---and whether or not the results end up doing that--I absolutely  appreciate the gesture and intent.

Ok, after thinking this through, it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks.

I explained earlier in this thread, how I had been a part of message boards for years and years, even co-managing a few at some point. (one I still do occasionally)

Anyway, looking and seeing this "Invision" label at the bottom, it finally dawned on me.

In roughly 2007-2008 my main old messageboard had a bit of a division, and a number of us broke off into our own community. (this had nothing to do with fantasy football, at least it wasn't a main part of that board)

At that time myself and someone whose opinion I trust when it comes to computer matters investigated a number of boards and Invision was one of those at that time.

Much of this is hazy at this point, but I believe we indeed used Invision for a brief period around the 2008 range, and we quickly left and found another board host.

The reasoning at that time was essentially lack of user customizations. IE- Not being able to change skins, severely limited in fonts, writing styles, quoting issues, PM problems,"post reputation issues" and a whole host of other minor irritations.

So although boards have improved over the years, and even a lot since then, even back then we realized that Invision wasn't the board for us.

Not being able to change the skin is still irritating, and I have to assume that the board founders have disabled that function.

(I can't imagine a board here in 2016 that doesn't give you the simple ability to change the skin or board style/graphics)

Like everyone else here, I am not enthused with the new look, but in general I am not one that likes change. I suppose it will grow on me.

I will be around, but not quite as much, especially since its the off season.

I will only say this to the board founders and the gang behind the scenes here.

Take a good hard look at what you have chosen.

Seriously, take a step back, and see what you think.... Try and judge the board and how happy you will be long term.

If for some reason you do think a change is necessary or will be in the future, then it is better to do it soon, rather than to let your "customers" get acquainted with a new board, only to change again a few months down the track.

Personally I liked the old board and coloring styles a bit better.

But if we at least had the ability to change this one, and had even as few as  4-5 other styles to choose from, then you would likely make a bunch of the guys still here happy.

This is a small option that most all boards have, and if we indeed have this as a possibility here, it would be a good "business move" to enable this and let many here choose our own.

Maybe they can do like Google News and add a nighttime mode that darkens everything. I just leave it dark but once in a while go bright.

Threads you've posted in should be working now, the indexes for those are done rebuilding.  You can get to it as a customer filter in the Sort By, or you can use the Activity Stream.

Search index is building at present and has a way to go still.

Is there any way to un quote something? The new board nicely saves my unsent posts but sometimes I get half way through a quoted reply and realize "I'm kind of being a snarky jerk." So I go to erase the post and just write something about the thread rather than the post I'm quoting. But the quote won't erase. I the thread and come back. Go to reply and the quote comes up again in the reply box. Still can't erase the quote.

Also

if

we

could

fix

the spacing, that would be great.

You can either control-right click and delete the quote from the menu that will pop up, or when you mouse over the quote box a little square top left for moving it will show up, you can click it and then delete or backspace.

I think I've seen people say that works on one mobile OS but not another.  Not positive which was which though.  Maybe Apple was the one that didn't work.

In reference to the line spacing I have noticed there isn't a line break between the last line of text and the editing line. Would be nice to have a full line there to make it easier to read. I am not sure of a way to trick it into doing this.
