Top 5 Favorite Val Kilmer Movies (1 Viewer)

Damn. Such a stud. His performance as Jim Morrison was about as good as it gets from an actor. He nailed it. RIP Val.

1. Tombstone
2. The Doors
3. Top Gun
4. Real Genius
5. Wonderland
6. Heat

  1. Tombstone
  2. Thunderheart
  3. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
  4. Top Gun/Top Gun Maverick
  5. Heat
  6. Kill the Irishman
  7. Ghost and the Darkness
My Spinal Tap list goes to 7.
Love Thunderheart, highly under rated. Give it a watch if you haven't seen it yet or in a long time.

True Romance is my favorite movie Val Kilmer appears in . Can’t believe I’ve never seen The Doors

Tombstone
Heat
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Wonderland
The Salton Sea

I don't think I've even seen 10 movies with Val in it. The ones I have were Top Gun 1 + 2, Deja Vu, Kiss Kiss, Heat, Batman Forever, True Romance, The Doors, and Top Secret! Sorry to hear about his illness in his later years and him passing away, but I don't think I ever saw a movie because I wanted to see him. The Doors would be the closest. He made that movie. But of the others on my list, he was good but not a huge part of the film.

Never forget....

So many fun movies, thanks for the reminders above.

In no particular order:
Real Genius
Top Secret
Tombstone
Willow
Top Gun
The Saint

Never saw some of his better movies like Kiss Kiss or The Doors.

Forgot about Ghost and the Darkness. Good call.

Forgot about Wonderland...that was an underrated movie, probably because of how dark it was.

Top Secret! is one of those you either love it or hate it.

Tombstone is my favorite of his, but for underrated I'd vote The Salton Sea, which is a underlooked gem IMO.

Unless you really don't like westerns, Tombstone is a must watch. His performance in that is beyond outstanding.

There is simply no excuse for you getting this far in life and not having seen Tombstone. Remedy that stat!

I’m going with my top 5 favorite Val Kilmer performances, rather than favorite Val Kilmer movies. In no particular order (except Tombstone will always be first):

Tombstone
The Doors
Real Genius
Top Gun
The Saint

  1. Tombstone
  2. Thunderheart
  3. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
  4. Top Gun/Top Gun Maverick
  5. Heat
  6. Kill the Irishman
  7. Ghost and the Darkness

I had my wife and kids all watch Thunderheart before we had a vacation to South Dakota. The Badlands are amazing.

Heat
Top Gun Maverick
Tombstone
Top Gun
You choose

For such a big household name, he really wasn't in many good movies.

Tombstone
Real Genius
Top Gun
The Doors
Heat

Mrs APK would say Top Secret. She had never seen Willow until recently at my recommendation. She also has an odd fascination with The Saint — odd because she is drawn to the movie overall, while I’m drawn to Elizabeth Shue.

Edit to add: I never expected to love a Kilmer role as much as his Real Genius role, but then I saw Tombstone. One of the best characters and performances - beyond memorable. That could have been a nothing role. He made that movie. As others have said, his performance in The Doors is also amazing, I just don’t love the movie. But Kilmer = Morrison in that film.

Love seeing all the recognition he's getting in here for Wonderland. While it's not nearly in the same ball park as Boogie Nights, it's often glossed over in his discography. He did a great job as John Holmes.

RIP Val. You were one the actors who really shaped my childhood years - Real Genius, Top Gun, Top Secret and the list goes on...

I hadn't gone to the Badlands the first time I saw it in the theater. When I went, I instantly recognized that Thunderheart and Dances With Wolves were filmed there.
I have to guess that many have not seen this film, or they'd have listed it with the top Kilmer movies.

Top Secret! is one of those you either love it or hate it.
And if you hate it, you not only lack taste, but your face and buttocks are likely indistinguishable from one another.
