What are the top 5 issues you’re concerned about in the 2020 election?

Please include SCOTUS and candidate dislike

I really really like this list. Probably would only change number 2 to SCOTUS (though I do agree with the point you’re making).

1) Securing our Southern border
2) Putting another Conservative or two on the Supreme Court
3) Ensure American military hegemony continues
4) Aggressively combat Muslim terrorism
5) Keep taxes low to drive American economic boom

OR

1) Drive a Green New Deal to fight climate change
2) Protect Roe v Wade on the Supreme Court
3) Push for non-military interventions and reduce troops on the ground
4) Transition to M4A / M4A who want it
5) Fight income inequality

1. Healthcare...it plays so much into a real help for the middle and lower class.  The system is broken.

2.  Education...no, I dont mean free college.  A less major shift though...assistance for community college and trades would be a great start.

3.  Campaig Finance...its ridiculous that we spend this much in elections and the way money buys influence is out of control.

4.  Judicial appointees...cannot continue to let Trump pack the courts.

5.  Balance of power/checks and balances actually meaning something again.  The executive has been out of control (and yes that predates Trump)

1. Trump

2. Trump

3. Trump

4. Trump

5. Trump

It doesn't really matter what the actual issues are because if Trump is reelected, everything that is really important to Democrats, liberals and progressives will be lost anyway and the damage to this country will be irreparable.

And for those that say you can't just run against Trump, consider that every election of a president to a second term has always been a referendum on that president, which is what 2020 will be.

#1 Healthcare for all - I could really stop here and be happy if they fixed this because I have been fortunate to have great healthcare coverage my entire adult life. It hasn't cost my family a lot of money, it has saved us a lot of money. Add in that if something does happen I don't have to worry about getting care, I don't have to worry about it bankrupting my family and I never have to question myself if I should go to the doctor because it might not be that serious and would waste my money. This is a good thing and everyone should have this.

2. Education - I am biased because I am in the field, but I don't think there should ever be cuts to education or for profit schools before college.

3 Climate change - I would like to see more regulations, I think they are a necessary evil because without them people/companies will trash the environment to make money with little to no regard of the consequences for future generations.

4. Campaign  finance  reform - I want big money out if politics.

5. The great divide - I am sick of partisan politics. Things should be done because it is the right thing to do, not because your party says it is okay.

1.Healthcare- fix the ACA so premiums aren’t so high for individuals and small business and provide a Medicare plan for those who can’t afford insurance. A serious bill to lower prescription drug prices-

                    - allow drugs from Canada and other countries?

2. Get back into the Paris climate  agreement

3. Get a President who has integrity and decency  and puts cabinet members in place that have the same characteristics

4. Gun reform- eliminate high magazine capacity clips, eliminate the gun show loop hole, end assault rifle sales. (Be careful here don’t get crazy)

5 . Restore Global respect for US leadership

1. Staffing the executive branch with competent appointees whose loyalty will be to the public and to the Constitution.

2. Respect for the rule of law — heeding the limits on executive powers, recognizing the authorities of the other branches, and respecting the independence of the Justice Department.

3. Telling the truth, personally and through press secretaries, to the media and to the public.

4. Strengthening relationships with western democratic allies, and rebuking human rights violations by authoritarian dictators.

5. Addressing cost disease in healthcare, education, and housing.

(As a general rule, the first four of these aren’t key issues in most elections because both major-party candidates tend to be roughly similar on them and we take them for granted. It’d be like saying that a trait you’re really focusing on when evaluating QB prospects this year is the ability to take a snap from center. But in the 2020 election, the basic fundamentals have become extremely important issues. They are absolutely essential — nothing else much matters if we can’t do the basics — and we can’t take them for granted.)

Agree with MT’s list but I’ll cheat and combine those:

1. Get rid of Trump (see 1-4 of his post)

2. Climate change

3. Healthcare

4. Income inequality

5. Campaign finance reform

1.  Defeat Trump

2.  Get Trump out of the White House

3.  Get Melania out of the White House

4.  Remove Ivanka and Jared from federal payroll

5.  Remove SS protection for TrumpJr and Eric (I don't wish them ill will, they can pay for their own security detail).

Protect Americans from a for profit insurance/healthcare system, protect people with pre-existing conditions

Infrastructure

Infrastructure- it’s worth mentioning at least twice. Upgrading bridges, roads, internet capabilities, securing local govt servers/upgrades, electrical grid, water collection/distribution/conservation, and on and on.

Military- I have no idea what all this money goes to, and neither does anyone else. I want to have a balance between security/research/oversight. An ever-increasing budget doesn’t equal security.

Education- whether it’s directed to the states for k-12, paying for 2 years of secondary ed, or providing a tax credit for preschool type child care, I think education is invaluable

I’d also really like to see the money/influence out of politics. There’s always a way to skirt the rules- speaking engagements, donate to charity wife runs, buy their book, donate to their campaign or to their superPAC, corporate tax breaks, and on and on....but I’m at 6 because I put infrastructure twice, so I’ll leave it there.

This is a good list for me.

I’d just like for us to have a government that’s interested in governance. Competence would be icing on the cake.

1. Vigorous anti-trust enforcement, especially breaking up the big banks

2. End the Wars/End the Surveillance State/Slash Pentagon budget dramatically

3. Medicare for All or something like it

4. Green New Deal or something like it

5. Legalize marijuana, expunge past convictions, punish states who don't get on board

1. Lock her up.

2. Owning Libs.

3. Getting Mexico to Pay for The Wall.

4. Colin Kaepernick.

5. Getting Roseanne back on The Conners.

The #1 issue will be the economy. And it’s very likely to be terrible. Recession plus unemployment.

The #2 issue will be the competence of the current President.

These will be tied directly together.

1. Getting somebody in there that doesn't embarass me. In other words, Trump losing (I'd prefer he do so in the primary but that isn't going to happen).

2. Reducing deficit spending and defense spending (which includes this stupid wall).

3. Staffing all executive agencies with competent people. I'd settle for actual people at this point, though.

4. SCOTUS appointments.

5. Addressing climate change.

Personally, criminal justice reform would be in my top 5 but I excluded it because I don't think any candidate will actually do anything substantive about it in my lifetime.

Getting our moral and value compass pointed in the right direction

Trump has birthed an entire generation of self interested aholes

Anti-Corruption (using public office for private gain)

Climate Change

Restoring an Independent Justice Department/Judicial appointments

Universal Healthcare

Deficit Spending

I'm not sure I can narrow it down to a top 5.  So many great responses in this thread already.

I'd be happy to just remove a jerk from office and return to normalcy.  I would enthusiastically campaign for george bush if he was running against trump.
