Top 5 Popular Musical Artists/Bands You Don't LIke - Spinoff of top 5 (1 Viewer)

didn't they force feed that dreck to every apple device ever made? Seemed to be done with a mindset of 'who wouldn't want our new music?'

If I'm remembering that correctly, that's the epitome of arrogance
I don't know if it was arrogant but it sure as hell was annoying.  I couldn't figure out how to stop it from autoplaying every time I connected by phone to my car's bluetooth.

I guess I don't remember it well. I thought you only downloaded it if you wanted it.

To be fair, that was at least as much Apple's ####-up as it was U2's arrogance.   I could release an album today and say I want it pushed to everyone's iPhone, but I doubt it would happen.

But yes, U2 were certainly complicit in this.

Looking back....Back in Black was a great album, but they have been living off of that album for decades

Losing Bon was such a big loss...his lyrics and attitude made them an interesting and fun rock and roll band.  The songs were more varied back them and Bon had great lyrics...they became too big, too formulaic and too uninspiring .... save for the odd song here and there

been reading theories on how some of the lyrics on BiB, may have been Bon lyrics and it makes sense

I may be on an island here but Steve Perrys' Journey was very good music...so good that it got overplayed to death and now you have haters.

I appreciate the Beatles and understand their importance to music but am not really a fan.
Where I stand as well.   I list them b/c of the the disparity between how others feel about them and how I do.   There's also plenty of bands listed in this thread that I don't like, but few if any hold the same place in how the rest of the public feels about them.

What's the general consensus on the hate for U2? I thought I'd be near alone with them, but they're actually getting a bunch of mentions.
IMO, they haven't put out a good record since Achtung Baby in 1991.  So if you didn't grow up in the 80s when U2's work is legendary, I can see someone hating them.

For me, I can't stand

Dave Matthews Band

Hootie and the Blowfish.....how their 1st record sold so many copies baffles me to this day.

Sheryl Crow - except for "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Steve McQueen".   Her other hits are garbage.

ABBA

It was, but I would rather listen to pre Steve Perry Journey, which kicks serious a$$.  Love listening to Neal Schon shred the guitar, Greg Rolie on the keyboard and Ansley Dunbar pound the skins.

Interesting.  Sigur Ros is probably my favorite band and they're certainly not for everybody, but I've never heard someone who thought they were boring.  You're not basing this on their first album Von, are you?  That's like their Pablo Honey.  Pretty much everyone ignores it.  Ágætis Byrjun (yeah I copy/pasted that) is where you start with Sigur Ros.
I guess here we go again...I'm not even aware of the albums; I just always tried listening to their new ones straight through.

Welp, another mission accepted.

The Who could have been a great power trio if Pete had the balls to sing in the beginning. Daltry has always rubbed me the wrong way and ruins the band for me.

While some early stuff borderlines greatness, Aerosmith today owes everything it has to Rick Rubin bringing them back from the dead. The garbage they've put out over the last 30 years tarnishes anything they did leading up to that.

Round Here, you get punched in the throat for even suggesting that we listen to Counting Crows.

I'm not an anti jam band guy, but I never got the love for Phish

Not sure if they qualify as popular, but I'm looking sideways at anyone that says that they like Pavement.

There are always these underground acts that catch on in the music snob circles.  Sometimes there is a reason to be interested (Car Seat Headrest) and sometimes it's Pavement.  I don't get it either.

Not really.

You're assuming their train of thought was, "Who wouldn't want our new music?"  A fan could easily say that was U2 giving back to the people by giving them an album for free.

I get the hate of Bono, as he does come off like a self-important windbag more often than not, but damn it if the guy isn't one of rock's best frontmen ever and a helluva passionate singer.  U2 is as big as they for a variety of reasons, and Bono is one of those main reasons.

If there was a thread where we list the five FBGs we think have the worst taste in music, I would list the five unfortunate guys who don't like Pink Floyd ;-)   How is that even possible?

My list:

ZZ Top

Grateful Dead

Dylan - Great songwriter, voice like nails on a chalkboard.

U2 last 25 years;  U2 is on my top 5 favorite bands list for their epic work until 1992

Almost all country music, which makes my ears bleed

I feel sorry for people that don’t like the Dead. Missing out on the greatest celebration of American music. Folk, country, rock, and blues all in one.

The Eagles

Radiohead

Pink Floyd

Phish

Bob Dylan

*I went with the most popular artists that I just don’t really care for that much - although to be fair there’s probably a song or two that I can tolerate from the list overall I’d be fine if their entire catalogs disappeared forever.

Funny thing for me is I’m always hearing a lot of comparisons between Phish and Grateful Dead - not a fan of the former but really like the Dead.

We may now need another spinoff thread on the artist you are most surprised to see in this thread.

My vote would be Springsteen - not sure I had ever really heard anyone say they didn’t like him until this thread.

Someone voted for Arcade Fire.  Might have just been a troll job, but that surprised me.  Agree on Bruce.

I think the ways Phish is similar to the Grateful Dead is really more about the scene, the devotion of the fan bases and the fact that they completely change up their setlists for each show. Of course, they are both jam bands so that is similar (although the type of jamming is much different) but Phish is more jazz-based with a bunch of lyrics with no real meaning and often times downright silly. The Grateful Dead's lyrics are like poetry and their songs have a much wider range of Americana influences. Robert Hunter's lyrics explored the light and the dark, his use of dichotomy can be seen in so many of their songs.

I will stop there though because if I go any further I will want to kick my own ###.

I think there’s only one alternative then and that’s ‘I don’t care if they don’t want it, they’re getting it anyway’ which has an arrogance to it too

I WANT to like him. I recognize his brilliant song writing and influence on music.  I even have a lot of his music in my playlists.  But I just find myself wanting to skip his songs when they're playing because of that voice...
I wasn't trying to say you were wrong for not liking Dylan.  I was just trying to point out the answer to your question (of how someone could not like Floyd) was right there in your own post.  Music is subjective (even to those who want to claim there is some sort of Mount Rushmore of musicians that everyone should like).

So many I agree with, and so many I find shocking. It is amazing how tastes differ.

My top 5 of those super popular:
Grateful Dead - not as much now, but usually listed as "popular"
Bob Dylan
U2
 Bruce Springsteen
The Police

5 that were super popular at a time, or not universally popular:
Queensryche
The Cure
Dave Matthews Band
Hootie and the Blowfish/Darius Rucker
modern country music - I might listen to something from the Johnny Cash era, but not a lot

While some lists have have a surprise or three on them, I find this entire list a surprise to see.

Beatles and Stones are the most surprising to me. Other than maybe being over-played, cant see how anyone doesn't at least like some of their stuff?

I disagree with Floyd, Dead, Radiohead, etc, but they're polarizing bands, so not surprised to see them listed here.

Springsteen makes my skin crawl and would easily be my #1 on this list.

Should have said ones that are showing up several times - there’s always going to be someone that is like “Michael Jackson sucks and was a hack!” - but to see so many (including you) single out Springsteen is shocking to me, especially given the demographics of this board.

Not sure why. If they were deciding on a Mt Rushmore of awful bands, I'd pay good money to watch them all have a battle royal to the death to see who doesn't get to be etched in stone.

I could never stand REO Speedwagon.  I know it was the 80s and all but I have always found something about that band particularly awful.

I was one who did list them. Like I said in my post, I don't hate them, but since a lot of people I know really liked them I tried to get into them and I just couldn't. I don't get the hype with them. I would never say they "suck" but I have no desire to listen to them - and based on music drafts we have similar tastes for the most part.

I tried to list bands that I should like, but don't - except for Creed (I'm not surprised I don't like them).

I like Bruce a lot but I know a lot of people that do not like his voice.

Even Funeral?  Everyone seems to like the sound of that one at least.  The last record EN was terrible imo.  With the EP, Funeral, Neon Bible, and The Suburbs they were a rock band.  Now they are more electronic which bites (for them, I love that genre)

I'm playing Journey-Infinity right now trying to decide if I hate Journey, or just Steve Perry.  Perry in a land slide!  I'm gonna listen to the ones without him after this.  Lights is such an awful tune!

Funeral and Neon Bible were the two I listed to - after that I stopped.

:goodposting:

#### him, #### his stories, #### his Time cover in '75, #### his band
You would have enjoyed my Nursing Home Bruce Springsteen character on my old radio show. Born to Run was just out then & It didn't take much to tart the way he slurred "runawaymercandream" into a grumpy old man's voice complaining that his wheechair was a "suicide machine" and asking "Hey, Eddie, can you gimme a rub?"

Pearl Jam

Aerosmith (90s+)

Grateful Dead (Hi Shuke!)

Pink Floyd (not that I actively hate them, just never got into them)

Any "Bro Country" act ever

he's insufferable

the effrontery of that schmuck knows zero limits - artifice wrapped in hubris coated with the essence of dingleberry - again, #### him

That's actually about it to me. Those 2 bands I just change the channel when they come on.
Agree. I really like Ten but after that, I only liked one song
