Let's all consolidate this discussion into this one thread.

Anyways, Brett has obviously put up some fantastic stats over the course of his career, including a ring. I don't dispute any of that, and agree that he's a first ballot HOF.

I will say, from an off-the-field perspective, he annoys me more than any other player in professional sports. With the drama surrounding, "Will Brett come back (again) and the constant media coverage of it. You know, he didn't allow teams to adequately draft and look into other options so that they could hang on his every word in the off season. That's wrong and messed up, and not being a team player, just a drama queen. Also, the whole dramatization of him playing for his father who passed away. Sorry, I'm not saying it's not a sad thing, I'm a human being and would be devastated if I lost my father. But the media coverage and soap opera-ization of that season was stomach turning. Lots of people, even in the NFL, lose their fathers at some point. But for the Almighty, he's the second coming because he's playing through it. Made me sick. And the with the most recent Sterger scandal, well, he's lucky this is the end of the rope for his career and Goodell didn't have the stones to actually act on all of this during 2010.

/Rant

In summary, great QB on the field, insufferable media whore off of it.

He will always hold a special place in my heart for the tough way he approached this man's game. John Madden and me are lifetime members in the Brett Favre lovers club!

I don't love Brett Farve but I've gone from not really liking him early in his career to admiring how he plays the game of football. From his raw enthusiasm to his undeniable toughness we'll never see someone quite like Brett Farve again.

Brett Farve takes a lot of criticism, some of it just and some of it not. Over the last few years I've kind of equated it to how I felt about Larry Bird years ago. I used to swear to myself that I hated Larry Bird. That he does this, that people think this of him etc....and that when he retired I'd be a happier person for it. (Pistons fan here, from the Bad Boy Era) But the truth was when he was gone, when Magic was gone, I wasn't happy. I ended up finding out in time what a hole that left in that game and how truly great those players were. I guess I just loved to hate those guys but they made the sport a better league.

My gut feeling says it's going to be the same with Brett Farve for many. Many people hate this guy, for a lot of trivial reasons, it's not like this guy has really done something personal to you that warrants the word hate to be used. When Farve is gone, he will be missed by people that didn't even know they'd miss him. Several years down the line you'll think of him and you'll probably see some high priced QB who thinks a lot of himself limping off the field and you'll say, " He sure isn't like Brett Farve, this guy's got to be kidding me. Brett Farve would play with broken this and torn that but he'd play the game!" Then you'll remember that you were supposed to hate that guy and realize just how great he was and how overused the word "hate" is when really most of us have no idea the true meaning of it.

:goodposting: Off the field, the guy isn't what I would call a "good" guy and that makes me not really root for him on the field.
