This is what I could find after Stacy's first legitimate workload of the season last year.Anyone have quotes from last year when Stacy was emerging? Did the staff feign loyalty to the other backs?
Essentially, it was the polar opposite last year with Stacy emerging.Coach Jeff Fisher confirmed Monday rookie Zac Stacy will remain the Rams' starting tailback in Week 6 against the Texans.
"He'll probably start the game off, just like he did yesterday," said Fisher, implicitly confirming Stacy's alleged Week 5 rib injury is not a concern for his Week 6 availability. (Stacy only had his wind knocked out.) Stacy finished with 78 yards on 14 carries (5.6 YPC) against the Jaguars on Sunday, and Fisher told reporters Monday he wanted the rookie to handle a larger workload. "Would've liked to see him get more carries," said Fisher, "but that's the way the game went."

maybe thats why he looks so bad....hes been dinged up...i hope not because i dropped him last week and grabbed masonyour lead back doesnt play 1 snap, w zero carries by "gameplan"
sorry
I don't think anyone is concerned with going back to Stacy as the lead back. I think there is a legit concern that they use all 3 backs just enough to neutralize the value of Mason. The Rams just beat the World Champs with Mason... They are not going to be going back to Stacy....

I'm in, he's a huge target for me this week. I'm just saying that there are things to think about. They just beat the World Champs with Mason as the 1st and 2nd down bell cow....Mason can catch too - he is not a liability in the passing game. Once his blocking gets better he will be an every down back!I don't think anyone is concerned with going back to Stacy as the lead back. Agreed. Stacy is just the potential icing. If he even steals 5 touches a game, it's significant.Im not sure I want to commit to Mason more because of Cunningham.
Cant understand this advice. Unfortunately, all three need to be held.Zac Stacy’s role in the Rams’ newfound committee. That’s because Stacy didn’t have a role in the Rams’ newfound committee, registering zero touches to Tre Mason’s 18 and Benny Cunningham’s seven. The Rams are making a switch, with Mason pounding between the tackles and Cunningham doing work in the passing game. Stacy shouldn’t have many more zero-touch afternoons, but his lead-dog days are long gone. He can safely be dropped in 12-14 team leagues.
per Patrick Daugherty ; a football and baseball writer for Rotoworld.com.
yeah, ok --- you've got all these outstanding runners so you took the 5th rb off the board in the 3rd round.Rams coach Jeff Fisher said the team's running back situation will continue to be a "week-to-week thing," adding Zac Stacy's lack of playing time Sunday wasn't an indicator of things to come. Stacy played one snap and got zero carries in the win over the Seahawks.
"We've got three outstanding runners," Fisher said, referring to Stacy, Benny Cunninghamand rookie Tre Mason. "And as I mentioned, we think Trey Watts can also help us, so we're going to use them all. It'll be a week-to-week thing. Zac could get 25 carries this week
The really big question is 'Can Tre Mason pass block'. If the answer is no, then he's the next Ronnie Hillman (although he may not be quite as overhyped by Lammey)
What reason would Fisher have to change his MO from last year regarding this same exact situation? Stacy got 14 carries vs. JAC in week 5 after totaling totaling exactly 1 in the first month and Fisher followed up that game saying..What reason would Fisher have for making some kind of official announcement that Tre Mason is the new starting RB after one good game? It would be disrespectful to Stacy & Cunningham and give Mason the impression that the competition is over. It's much wiser for Fisher to pretend to be "playing the hot hand" and let Mason continue to be that hot hand until it's obvious to everyone that he's the lead back. No official announcement is really necessary is it? By the end of our fantasy season, weeks 13-16, Mason should clearly be the lead back with a fantastic schedule. Might even be more involved in the passing game by then. Just have to be patient.
“Yes, I think we’ll probably start this game off the same way we did yesterday,” Fisher said matter of factly. “(I) would’ve liked to seen him get more carries, but that was the way the game went," Fisher said. "He was hitting the hole and he had yards after contact -- the violent yards, we refer to them at the running back position. He got to what he needed to do in the passing game and I thought in protection he was excellent.”
Maybe (a) we're simply reading too much into what a coach says the media, or (b) they aren't identical situations considering Stacy didn't cough up the football at a critical point in the game leading up to the commentary you quoted.SameSongNDance said:If it's much wiser for Fisher to pretend to be playing the hot hand, then why didn't he come out and say "we have three great running backs in Richardson, Cunningham and Stacy" after that game last year instead of naming Stacy the starter moving forward. I don't know, it seems odd to me that he exhibited such polarizing stances on essentially identical situations.
He also nearly - and unnecessarily - fumbled the game away. Need to look at the whole picture.People are thinking way too much about this.
Mason looks like the far, far superior back to Stacy. And he helped contribute to a win over the defending champs.
amen.Fisher is a moron if he doesn't keep starting Mason, Greg Robinson and Aaron Donald. These 3 should be cornerstones of your franchise.
No, no that's not the worry. IMO it has jack to do with the fumble. The worry is that Cunningham will see the majority of the snaps when STL is playing catch-up as he's the best of the two at pass pro. It's a seemingly minuscule but legitimate worry. I mean, was there ever a point in the SEA game where STL wasn't leading? Serious question as I'm not sure.So the fear here is that in his first complete game as the lead dog, Fisher will bench his BEST running back because of a fumble that was recovered by his own team?
Fisher is going to punish his entire team instead of coaching/teaching Mason to not go for the homerun on that play and just get the yards and end the game?
I dont think so, tim.
Wow, great research here. I have no idea how that will play out if they're behind. I've never said anything to the contrary...No, no that's not the worry. IMO it has jack to do with the fumble. As I said STL is playing at KC this weekend in a game where Vegas is favoring KC by a score. Are you telling me you can't envision a scenario where KC is leading, STL is playing catch-up and Cunningham isn't commanding the backfield?
It is great research, thanks. However, I don't think the situations are identical. Last year Stacy won an open competition for starting RB. There was no true incumbent. This year, Mason appears to be on the verge of the replacing the incumbent, but poorly performing starter Stacy. The differences call for different coach speak during the transition. Kind of silly to spend too much time dissecting coach speak when it's pretty clear what's happening. Stacy is playing himself off the field while Mason is playing himself onto the field. Stacy's success last year was a product of volume, while Mason appears to be talented enough to create his own success.Wow, great research here. Can one single lineman really have chemistry with a running back? I like Mason fine but this is silly.Said this from the start - Robinson + Mason have CHEMISTRY, and it will translate to the field.
When that lineman is of the finest pedigree, yes... I do believe so.Can one single lineman really have chemistry with a running back? I like Mason fine but this is silly.Said this from the start - Robinson + Mason have CHEMISTRY, and it will translate to the field.
You're reaching terribly. Just stick to getting a good call on Mason right. It's good enough. When that lineman is of the finest pedigree, yes... In fact, didnt he use Greg as his lead when he scored just this week?
