Harry Douglas if Julio is out, Donte Moncreif because the Texans have said they will focus on TY Hilton. Or you could even look at Marquess Wilson since Marshall is out. These are all guys you might have or can get off of waivers, are in a good situation, and could explode this week more than your typical 10-12 point RB2, WR2, or Flex.​

The most enticing fantasy play on St. Louis' side is Tre Mason, who I also noticed is priced very affordably ($6,500) on FanDuel this week. I'm probably going to put him in all of my lineups. Whereas Mason has been held under 3.60 yards per carry and is scoreless on the year in road games, he has four all-purpose touchdowns at home with a clean 4.91 YPC average. This week's matchup is close to ideal against a Giants team that ranks 25th in Football Outsiders' run-defense DVOA and allows the eighth most fantasy points to running backs, including 4.76 yards per carry. I like the idea of "stacking" Tre Mason and the Rams' defense in fantasy leagues of all kinds.

Cunningham's role has had a bit of an uptick, but it's still difficult not to place Mason in the top 10-15 this week at the position IMHO.

The Rams are favored by 5.5 points over the Giants, who are giving up a tied-for-league-worst 4.9 yards per carry this season. The game script favors a lot of running by the Rams, and since he took over as the starter in Week 7, Tre Mason is averaging 70% of the team's RB touches. Over the last four weeks, make that 74%. You don't have to love Tre Mason's talent in order to love his fantasy prospects in Week 16.

Good point and worthy of fleshing out.

Cunningham didnt get significant touches at all against the Redskins, but looked fantastic. Enough so that I benched Mason for that reason (thankfully).

And then last week Cunningham:

(1) looked great early catching the ball,

(2) had moderate snaps throughout when we all feared he'd be handed the ball due to the fumble,

(3) came in on 3rd & 1 from the 1 yard line and didnt get the "touch"....but it was a troubling sign nonetheless, and

(4) was in for +/-90% of the snaps on the final drive as the Rams were in pass mode.

So an uptick in Mason touch % isnt driving increased confidence for me at all given what I see with my eyes. Nonetheless, Mason's still a Top 10-15 RB this week and like many RBs you need to actively fear a vulture.

Interesting, thread alot of people are deciding on Mason vs Hill and even Josh Gordon at flex. - Difficult decision, trying to hit on.

Mason at home and the threat of breaking one has me really thinking to play him over Hill/Gordon

Hill's a beast but is he going to beast through Denver's tough front? it's close but I'd take Mason at home thinking the STL defense plays well and he gets 20 touches.

 
Had to make some tough tough decisions this week - Hill, Lynch, Mason, McCoy. Going with Mason this week and taking a big risk. But his matchup is very tough to pass on.

 
He has the moves and speed to do some damage on swing passes and screens. It's just a bad receiver? They pull him on passing downs which limit his production when they play catch up. As a dynasty owner hopefully they get him involved more in the passing game but I'm not sure why he isn't this year.

 
I think he doesnt get chances as a receiver because he is not a good blocker. He had that rep coming in from college.

He does look dynamic on screen passes. I'm hoping he works on that during the offseason.

Tre Mason rushed for 28 yards on 11 carries in the Rams' Week 17 loss to the Seahawks, adding three catches for 29 yards.

His impressive rookie season ends with 765 yards and four touchdowns on 179 carries (4.27 YPC) to go along with a 16-148-1 receiving line. The 75th pick in May’s draft, Mason started the season as the No. 4 back with Zac Stacy as the starter. Mason played just 55 snaps the first eight weeks before taking over as the starter in Week 9. Aside from Jeremy Hill, Mason was probably the most impressive rookie running back. He has plenty of big-play ability, but remains a work in progress in the pass game. Mason should enter 2015 atop the depth chart. The Rams will remain a run-first offense under coach Jeff Fisher and OC Brian Schottenheimer. That’ll make Mason a solid RB2 with upside.

Mort just commented on NFL Countdown that the Rams have already been in contact with Kyle Shanahan about their vacant OC position. Considering Shanahan has built successful running games at every single stop, I'd be rooting for that match were I a Mason owner.

I know the FF world soured on him fast, never understood why, but Kevin Gilbride would be a nice fit here. They have the fleet of RBs to make his system work and they even have the deep threats to hit when the opposing D is stacked up against the run.

The more Wilson improves, I think the teams in their division will have to develop a sound time wasting plodding offense they can go to to keep him off the field and get their D fresh.

 
This guy has been drawing some pretty laughable low-ball offers since the season ended. I've had offers of (individually) Blake Bortles, Terrance Williams, and Anquan Boldin.

 
Nobody seems to want him other than his owners. I think Mason showed good growth throughout the season in most areas and am looking forward to what he can do with an offseason. He needs to get better in pass pro and the intricacies of the position but I'm optimistic. His owners likely won't give him up for anything less than a mid-late first I'm guessing (that is likely what it would take to get him from me), but at least I haven't come across another owner willing to offer anything more than a late 2nd.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher says Tre Mason sat on the bench for the first four games of 2014 because he needed to "learn how to play without the football."

He wasn't asked to do much pass protection at Auburn, so it's understandable why Mason would need a few games to get acclimated. Mason was a stud once he began seeing regular carries, averaging 70.7 rushing yards per game over his last seven contests. If Mason stays healthy, he should be a safe bet for 1,000 yards next season as the Rams' no-doubt top back.

He didnt lack opportunities this year, which is good, but he seemed to have trouble converting those opportunities to fantasy points. Cunningham was a problem of course and given Cunningham's youth and low-$, we wouldn't expect that to change next year.

Some owners will be spooked by the fact that the Rams threw Stacy to the trash heap so quickly, but that shouldnt be an issue unless we get surprised with the Rams spending yet another early choice on an RB or signing someone.

He has to rank out around RB15, does he not? I'd be more bullish than that.

Free agency and the draft will play a role, but I think he's a legit option around RB9-15 right now.

It's not exactly something to brag about.

Mason truly hurt his owners this year in some key weeks. He was a net-net-negative in 2014.

Next year? See above; it should get better.

I think it's something to brag about. Highest I saw him get selected in rookie drafts was pick 12, but usually later.

His displaced Stacy, his value is up, and he passed the eyeball test with flying colors.

Any RB with a minimimal involvement in the passing game is going to hurt his owners some weeks. Alfred Morris being a big example, but I'd disagree he was a net negative.

I believe he has top 5 RB potential but he does have some obstacles. Mainly 6 brutal division games and ceding passing down work to Cunningham. So I consider him a RB2 this upcoming season but not an automatic start, a guy you might have to sit depending on his matchup and your options. But he's super young, I believe very talented, and main thing holding him back from RB1 up to top 5 fantasy RB category is increasing his involvement in the passing game and I think he's growing in that department.

Mason hit the pooper for us this year more times than not and at some key times. Go back and read pages 29-30 for some of the misery.

Of course he had his good moments too, but the cycle this season is documented well in thread:

1.) Predictions of grandeur

2.) Often (not always) under-performing on projections that were too high to begin with

3.) Attempting to spin the bad performance into something it wasnt

4.) Back to #1 for the next week

I hope we can avoid the hype and get into some real talk about this guy for '15.

98% of you knuckleheads believed Stacy owned this job... some of us (very few) stuck our neck outs and GUARANTEED mason would take over as the lead dog.

100% right. In fact, I said it'd happen by week 6, if memory serves me correct (the evidence can all be found)

Kid comes in as a rookie, in the WORST/TOUGHEST RUNNING DIVISION in football, and clips 4.3ypc and we complain.

When we've had successful RB's recently who were picked in Mason's (75) draft range (Charles - 73, Murray - 71, Ridley - 73, Greene - 65) it shouldn't that strange to think Mason could be the starter at some point in the future.

Since Charles in 2008, there have only been two RB's in that range who didn't pan out - Glen Coffee (74), who quit after his rookie year saying God told him to and Ronnie Hillman (67).

This one stands out the most:

Rodney Thomas (3rd) -> Eddie George (1st)

- Thomas had 251/947/5 (3.8 YPC), 39/204/2 (5.2 YPR)

Eerily similar to Stacy's 250/973/7 (3.9 YPC), 26/141/1 (5.4 YPR)
