Tre Mason (2 Viewers)

Jeff Fisher is one of the more unpredictable HC's out there. But, yes, I think we'll see a fair amount of Mason today. I would guess between 15-20 carries for Mason, with 6-10 for Cunningham.

This is one of those threads that should be allowed to die and bury itself at the bottom of the shark pool. Tre Mason barely has a pulse right now. Anyone who believed this would ever be or remain a timeshare was reaching. Expect Mason to pout himself out of St. Louis next season. Although, I would actually prefer to see him stay and get about 5 carries a game and keep Gurley around 25. Lol. The beast needs a breather!!!! Fantasy perception and reality are two different creatures.

I just traded a random 2017 2nd for him in a start 2 RB 14 team league dynasty with dev players.

Don't think he is a great talent, but there are 32 teams in the league and, with many of them utilizing some sort of committee, I do think he could be good enough to have some utility elsewhere in the future. He was a bit unfortunate to get pipped by the Gurley pick, but at the same time they wouldn't have made that selection if they loved him as their starter.

I shopped him around to a few teams, and got turned down for a mid/late devy pick and another random 2017 2nd. I needed to create a roster spot after picking up Charcandrick West last week. Charles is a generational talent, but he's 29. Just liked that spot more than slotting in behind Gurley for the next 3 years. Little did I know how soon it would pay off.

I think Tre Mason is a pretty talented guy. He showed he belongs in the NFL last year. It's pretty clear that he's nowhere near what Gurley is however. Which brings up a pretty interesting question. Are you better off holding pretty talented guys like Tre Mason/Jerick McKinnon or trading them off for some value, and playing the WW roster shuffle game?

Plucked Mason off waivers after his owner rejected several solid deals from me before Gurley took control of the backfield. Wondering what the future holds for him. I can see him being traded next season while Cunningham holds down the backup duties. One great spot? Dallas Cowboys!!!

Of all the bad beats in dynasty this was the worst for me. I loved Mason and thought I had a steal.

Dropped him. Even if Gurley goes down I just don't see him getting the bulk of carries.

Never really watched the Rams before Gurley so I dont know what Mason brought to the table. Could he be something on another team? He has looked like crap this year in limited duty. He is young though.

As a Mason owner if the hospital visit does not mean he has some type of career altering medical issue I'm actually glad for this news as crazy as this sounds.  If I could pick any player in the NFL I wanted to see switch teams it would be him, for my own selfish reasons, and this might help.

This could get him cut and personally I'd rather that happened than two years of sitting behind Gurley, even if most of the places I own him it's as his handcuff.

Mason flashed some nice ability his rookie year but it's fair to say we don't know how good he can be, is he a COP who is not a great third down back or can he be more of a full time back- can he be more something like Tony Dorsett like Gil Brandt comped him to when he was coming out? I don't know answer to these questions but I think the Rams are losing him. I know we can all say he's a professional and should just do his job, he should not be afraid to compete,  etc, etc.

But realistically he was never given a shot to compete against Gurley, that was clearly evident on draft night when his coach called Gurley the future. We also know he'd have lost that competition in a rout,  which is not really anything to be ashamed about but still probably not easy for a young developing players confidence to take.

So look at it from Mason's point of view. He has a great last season at Auburn and a solid rookie year with Rams. Leaves team around January with thought he's probably the returning starting RB or at minimum major part of RBBC. He's training for months getting ready for this role and boom the team drafts Gurley and then he has to watch his coach sit on TV and say he is no longer the future RB of the team and instead he's gone from starting RB and possible future rising star on the team to backup RB for possibly next 3 seasons. Meanwhile he sits back and watches Gurley dominate and knows that barring a trade he's nothing more than a backup for at least two more seasons. I just think that's hard for anyone to deal with and not lose some confidence, to not get down at least a little, if not a lot. Especially for a young player. That's why I think the Rams are losing him and I though we saw signs of that late last season with missing the team bus and in general lethargic looking play on the field. I don't think two more years of sitting on the bench watching one of the best running backs in the leagues does anything positive for him. Best thing for him is to get a fresh start and a legit shot to compete.

Traded him and my 3.05 for Smelter three days ago. Got lucky.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said the team needs to prepare for the possibility that Tre Mason is "not going to be here."
Mason was arrested for among other things resisting arrest and possession of cannabis in March. He missed his original court date for the infractions, but he pled not guilty in April. He was held out of OTAs for "personal reasons." With Mason's status up in the air, the Rams are very thin behind starter Todd Gurley and passing-down back Benny Cunningham.

TMZ Sports reports Tre Mason's family is concerned about his mental health and personal safety.
Mason has been involved with the police on five separate occasions over the past four months. The most recent incident occurred on Saturday when multiple units were called to Mason's home in the middle of the afternoon. Mason was not arrested, but it has become clear he is struggling. Hopefully, he can get the help he needs. Rams coach Jeff Fisher has already conceded there is a good chance Mason is "not going to be" with the team in the near future.

Wow, sad. Now when I hear stories like this I always wonder if head trauma is a factor. I don't recall him being a problem at Auburn, and yet it seems like he's going full Titus Young just a few years later. Something is very wrong here. I like the player based on his talent, but it seems like he's in a dark place.

Police: Rams' Tre Mason admitted to hospital after behaving erratically

http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/los-angeles-rams-tre-mason-admitted-to-hospital-after-behaving-erratically-080316

"According to the police report, Tre Mason told officers that "the police were responsible for teaching al-Qaida how to fly planes" and that he needed to warn the White House that "we were all going to lose our jobs."

Officers noticed a broken vase and lamp in Mason's bedroom and that a hole had been punched in the wall. Police determined that Mason wasn't fit "to make decisions" for himself at that time and took him to the hospital for observation."

Bath salts are a nasty adventure.

Wonder if the NFL has or will attempt to test this guy for substance abuse. Either way it seems like he's done playing football.

Our opinion: Safe to drop in all formats

This sounds like some sort of Manic Bipolar issue, I am hoping he gets the proper medication/treatment to helping balance himself out so he is able to live normally again soon

When you have me, of all people, calling your post moronic....
So it is hard for you to fathom that the guy arrested in March for weed could be on another form of drug in July?

... bath salts would cause all of the symptoms that Mason is having. In fact, bath salts probably wouldn't show on an NFL drug test ... like synthetic weed.

Maybe you are that naive but I think it's more the fact that you invested a draft pick in this guy and refuse to believe he is a jackass.

I won't speak for soulfly... but YES, it's very hard for me - or any rational person really - to make the jump from weed to bath salts.  You should just stop before that hole gets too big.  Oh wait, you're just trolling, right?  There's no way anyone would make that leap.

No matter the substance ... the guy was on something. You can all believe he's innocent and an unfortunate victim to sudden mental illness but the more logical explanation is mine.

Would it be easier for you to imagine him using synthetic weed? Undetectable by NFL testing. Similar affects to bath salts.

Chandler Jones flipped out on this stuff last year and walked from home to a police station to have them take him to the hospital because he was freaking out.

Put me in the mental illness camp.  This seems to be about more than just a guy who likes to get high.  I hope he can get the help he needs.

You have to hope that he can come to his senses, and get some help.

Is he a hold or drop in dynasty?
I dropped him in a deep dynasty. I cannot (off the top of my head) think of a player who has come back from this kind of a mental meltdown to have a productive career.

I agree although many people that have mental illness self medicate with weed, alcohol and other drugs.  In many cases it is hard to determine which came first.

I just hope the people close to Mason can figure out how to keep him in balance and that he stays with the treatment.  If he has the support of family and sticks with the meds he can live a happy, normal life and maybe even return to football.

Rams RB Tre Mason was charged with operating an ATV on public roads and fleeing officers after an incident on July 27 in Palm Beach, Florida.
Mason's bizarre offseason continues. Police were alerted that Mason was driving an ATV erratically in a public park. Mason, who was not wearing a helmet or any eye protection, soon led officers on a lengthy chase and locked himself in his home when police followed him to his house. After a long standoff, a family member eventually convinced Mason to come outside. This is Mason's sixth run-in with police in the last few months. He's currently on the Rams' reserve/DNR list and has likely played his last game for Los Angeles.

Tre Mason still absent from Rams

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/09/04/tre-mason-still-absent-from-rams/

Excerpt: “Tre Mason is on our Reserve/Did Not Report list, that’s where he stands,” coach Jeff Fisher told reporters on Sunday. “We’ve been in communication with the family, not Tre, but with the family. The organization’s position, including the league and the [NFL] Players Association, is to take care of him and help him to get the help that he needs to get through this life crisis that he’s having.”

Mason is in the same posture as a holdout. He can return at any time until the Tuesday after Week 10, and he will be unpaid until he does. If/when he reports, the Rams will have to decide whether to reinstate him to the roster, to cut him or trade him, or to place him on the non-football illness or injury list, based on his condition when he arrives.
