There might be some confusion with Green this week. So I'm just going to clear it up right now.

Trent Green will dress for the game, and be on the active roster this week as the team's 3rd QB. However, there is no way that Herm will play him. Huard will start, Croyle will be #2, and Dee Brown (the RB) would be the actual 3rd QB if needed. Green has not actually been cleared to play yet, he is going to see the doctors again early next week. Even if he gets cleared to play next week, there's no guarantee he would automatically start...remember, he's been out for 2 months.

Why would they waste a roster spot on him if Dee Brown was going to actually be QB3? If they want him for veteran leadership, would he be allowed on the field in plain clothes or is there some type of rule against that?

I might be wrong but I don't think the emergency QB counts against the poster.

He's been on the sidelines in plain clothes the last couple of weeks. Herm said that he was doing it...“To get him acclimated going out in the warmups with the team.” He also said it would take "Dire, dire, dire, dire conditions" for Green to get in the game this week.

Herm addressed the 3rd QB rule:

Q: I’ve never understood the third quarterback rule.

EDWARDS: “All it basically is: you really can’t put him in the game until the fourth quarter. If you put him in the game before that the quarterbacks that have left the game can not come back. It’s kind of a way of really getting another guy on the active roster but is not a position player.”
