True Detective: Tom went in to listen to the Cardinals game...in November. Mmmmmhmmmm... (2 Viewers)

Maybe getting back on some sort of topic, I loved the chase scene. Great cinematography to set that up. I was also impressed with how frigging fast McAdams booked through the tent city. Granted, Farrell's character was hobbled by comparison, but RM just flew through there. Fun to watch. Loved the truck rescue at the end as well. Good stuff.

This would have been a tracking shot in S1.

:lmao: Well done; I knew someone was going to say that, but I didn't expect it so quickly

Eh... I feel ya a little there but it has nothing on the "escape" scene after the biker/thug shootout.

 Any chance of discussing this season on its own merits? I'd call it "damn good television."

I'm struggling with this season. Season 1 was probably some of the best television I've ever seen. I'm not going to stop watching but this pales in comparison. We're talking about the same writer, producer... all the behind-the-scenes parts are generally the same. Not sure why this doesn't have me hooked the same way.

That said, I'll still watch.... I think Vaughn is better than the majority gives him credit for. Farrell is believable and I think the best is yet to come with him. Not sure McAdams was properly cast, though. All in all, this has been a solid 7/10 for me, while S1 was like a 10+/10. We'll see what happens.... it could turn around quickly.

I don't get the obsession with tracking shots. Anyone can push a dolly.

This is pretty much where I am at.

Not nearly as fascinated/captivated by the characters, dialogue or storyline.

I was fading fast after the first two episodes, but didn't mind the last one and actually found myself intrigued by the storyline a little bit. The dialogue written for VV is terrible, but I think he's doing a decent job acting it out all things considered.

It's far from perfect, but I'll stick with it and hope that it gets (more) interesting. If all else fails, it's only an eight week investment so it's not a huge deal if it sucks, I'll just be a bit disappointed.

Finished episode 2 for the 3rd time last night. I think I follow what's happening but there are still some gaps. Hoping to get through episode 3 tonight through Sunday.

Who is that guy they beat up under the overpass?
Instead of watching episode 3 I'm just coming in here

Nobody in particular, just a vehicle to show VV be tough and flexing his muscle.

Like the first season, I get sucked in more as the episodes pass. But I'm not buying VV as the tough guy corrupt land developer and his acting pales in comparison to the other leads.

I thought I read it was a newspaper writer, not positive
Velcoro roughed up a writer first episode to get them to stop his story on the city corruption. I guess this guy could have been as well. I didn't get that.

He definitely sucks, no doubt. But something else is off, maybe the directing? Weird little things aren't right, like a scene has the wrong tone and a good director would tell an actor to look more serious or whatever. I'm definitely enjoying it though.
Look MORE serious?

Get out.

I'm really enjoying this season although I'm a huge fan of this type of genre. As I stated earlier in the thread, this is really reminding me of James Ellroy with a bit of David Lynch thrown in. I do agree that VV is in over his head here but it isn't ruining things for me.

Need some serious female nude scenes soon though.

Rewatched Ep2 with the wife last night. When Velcoro gets shot in Caspere's sex house, there's a row of animal masks hanging on the wall with one missing (just a dummy head there).

Clearly rubber bullet shotty guy took the crow mask off of the wall for funsies/disguise. So, The Crow Cult Truthers are likely way off. As if we didn't already know that.

It was a raven mask not a crow

Great insight, Jack Hanna.

So Ray Lewis DID do it!

I wonder how the The Wire thread progressed over the seasons. I figure it was a real hoot!

(I am currently half way through Season 4 - I feel like I should be all :hot: because the season isn't the same as previous season - but I just don't care that much - its still entertaining).

Season 4 of the Wire is the single best season of television ever. It's art... seriously.

Not enough crow masks.

It's no use comparing seasons when the characters/storyline are completely different. Have to judge them on their own merit.

I think this season is fine. There have been some clunky dialogue at times (the Vince Vaughn paper mache monologue was pretty bad and they were trying too hard)

I still like the feel of the show, the setting is great, they've got good characters that are still developing.

I'll let you know when it's over how I really feel about it but its extremely watchable.

The best thing about watching this show has become that it reminds me that it's Sunday night and so tomorrow night I get to watch the Bachelorette. That's what this show has become.
