SIDA!

Footballguy
I am looking to aggregate specific information or tweets posted by a specific group of Twitter users in a manner that is efficient but also private.

Each day this group of Twitter users sends out a daily status update. But the rest of the day they are tweeting stuff that is irrelevant or not important to me.

Currently, I place them on a list which filters all of the tweets of these users onto it. However, the overwhelming majority are again, not relevant and instead clutter up the feed and make it difficult to aggregate this information quickly and easily.

If I ask them to include a specific hashtag each morning with the specific tweet I am interested in, then the entire world can search for that hashtag and see all these tweets. I don't want that.

The direct messaging route is cumbersome because it would entail each twitter user going through an extra step or two just to send me a direct message. Never mind the fact that other direct messages unrelated to this specific goal would be mixed in between.

Working under the assumption that I am working cooperatively with this group of twitter users what would be the best way to accomplish this? Right now the only thing I can think of is to do the following:

1. Create a separate/new Twitter handle that is private.

2. Ask the group of users to mention @privatehandle in the specific tweet each morning

Or am I missing an easier way?

Are you collecting child porn or something? Best bet would be to have these kids just email or text you.

Why don't you want that?

1. Create a separate/new Twitter handle that is private.

2. Ask the group of users to mention @privatehandle in the specific tweet each morning

This can pretty easily be searched as well...

Why do they have to tweet
This. Just have them email.
Because then I would have to go through and manually open 100+ emails, copy and paste the contents, etc. Very arduous and time consuming.

Additionally, this is the platform they are using and there would be much less friction in the process as opposed to having them use multiple platforms. Although I am open to suggestions outside of twitter. I just don't see email being a step in the right direction.

Say for example, I had a list of 30+ fantasy baseball experts who each tweeted out the starting lineups each day. I am only interested in getting those lineups into a quick list that I can then blast out to my list. For the record, this has nothing to do with baseball, but simply used for illustrative purposes. My list involves more than 150 people.

I don't have an answer for you but if you are worried about searching, someone could search tweets just as easily if they figured out the "private" handle to be included in said tweets. Unless the tweeters accounts are locked (i.e. private), the @ name would still appear in searches, so you're really not improving on just using the hashtag

add me to the group that does not understand why twitter is the right platform for this.
There very well might be a different platform that is better and more efficient, but my concern is that the friction this would introduce would prohibit participation. All of these people are very active on Twitter, almost exclusively. The information I am trying to aggregate is already sent out by each of them individually each day. Therefore, the idea of simply having them add a way to tag me privately or simply send out a duplicate tweet with a tag or mention specifically directed at me would seem like the easiest and least pain in the ### for them.

The information they are sending out to the public is obviously public. I am merely trying to aggregate this information from various information so that I can use it exclusively and not have someone else essentially copy and paste the information from the list I have spent time cultivating/developing, if that makes sense.

Not possible to do this unless all their accounts are private.

Do you know these twitter users personally? They're tweeting out info to the public, that you want aggregated for yourself, but don't want anyone else to see? Why don't you take the time and just copy the relevant tweets for yourself? I'm really confused.

Say for example the following happened:

My Twitter Handle was @SIDA and it was private.

If Twitter User: @FBGJohnDoe sent out a tweet that said the following: "Here is my status update. @SIDA"

All of FBGJohnDoe's followers would be able to see the tweet, right? That is fine.

However, that tweet and all the others with the @SIDA mention would essentially be aggregated into my private feed and only viewable by me, correct?

If @SIDA doesn't have any followers outside of this group, then nobody else would be able to see these tweets, right?

why aren't you snap chatting this info?
I have never used snap chat.

Is there a way to simply copy and paste this information into a word document. Right now, I can go into my twitter account and copy down all the tweets from the people on my list and paste them into word and then manipulate the data.

If @FBGUSERJOHNDOE tweets "@SIDA YOU SUCK." Only you would see that on your feed. Unless someone clicked on @FBGUSERJOHNDOE's twitter page.

Incorrect. They would appear in your feed, yes, but if someone were to search "@SIDA" they'll see any non-private account's tweets that contain @SIDA

Right. I am thinking that the best only solution is to create a new private twitter handle for this express purpose. Using my current handle would be a cluster because of all the extraneous @SIDA mentions that are not relevant for this specific project.

Second best solution at the moment would seem to be Google docs. Hmm.

Really? #### me. I didn't know that. Argh.

Then maybe Direct Messaging and filtering out the extraneous/irrelevant DMs is the only way to do this. Hmmm.

To make sure I was telling you correctly, I just tested with an old locked account I still have that's active, and I can see all the mentions to it by unlocked accounts. So yeah, you'd be just as well off using a hashtag. I guess the only improvement being that someone would have to actively search for the @ name rather than just clicking on the hashtag to view all the tweets

Thanks, Buddy. I appreciate you taking the time to check/share your knowledge.

Looks like I am either going to have to go the DM route on Twitter or an entirely different platform altogether.

You don't want people to see because you're doing the aggregation work, but you also don't want to do the aggregation work.

My friend does this for a living for a large ad agency, but I doubt he would share his program with you.

But it is really easy to search for all tweets that mention a specific user, hence giving anyone the same aggregation you get in your list. Thinking about this, might be able to use the Twitter API, is there anything else about these tweets that is the same across all of them but not obvious?

Have them paste the relevant information to a google doc each day.
this
Thought about this, but then each individual user of the Google Doc would see everything else right? I am trying to maintain some proprietary control of this list. I am not a Google Doc expert, but is there a way to only allow users to see the specific row where they would input their data/info?
Not Google Docs, but you can easily create a Google Form that fills in a row on Google Sheets. The users would only see a blank form each day, they fill it in and click submit and it gets entered into a Google Sheets that only you can have access to.

Have each of them use a hashtag unique to the individual in their tweet.

You have to search on 30 different hastags if there are 30 different users no one can look at one tweet and figure out how to get at the other 29.

I'm guessing there must be a way to do the 30 searches and dump the output to the same place.

Why not call each of them individually, write down what they say with paper and pencil, type up your notes on a typewriter and then send a group fax to whoever gives a ####?

Very interesting. I am going to look into this. Thank you.

Why didn't I think of this!?
