This fits.

It’s the first day of the public rollout of Elon Musk’s “verification for all” (as long as you give me $8), and it’s going exactly how many predicted. Hours into the first day all manners of accounts are popping up trying to deceive people or spread misinformation, and this is especially horrible for sports fans.

On today’s call he told staff if they aren’t in the office, their resignation is accepted, Twitter may be bankrupt in a few months, and when somebody asked what his plan was he said “I don’t know…we all to be more hardcore” :lmao:

Thanks. Do you have a link for this?

Finance guy on Twitter suggesting that based on current data the implied spot price of Twitter is $8B.
Last night I back of the enveloped the eventual sales price at 25-30% of the actual market value when he purchased (est. $25-30B) -- or $6-9B. I was just spitballing though.

This seems about right. I can't think of many (any?) SM platforms that don't have smoke/mirrors as a decent portion of their foundation. I might become a rather large fan of Musk if he ends up crashing and burning this portion of SM. It sucks for those that build their business on it, but understanding what you are building ON should be a top priority so you can then account for all possibilities.

Musk is doing exactly what he did with Tesla and exactly what he said he was going to do, experiment with changes to find what works and what doesn't.

It's been like 2 weeks since he took over and some people are acting like the app will go dark in a matter of days and their HQ will be boarded up and sold at auction.

I know we are getting really good at overreactions in 'Merica, but this is reaching comical levels.
It doesn't help when one of the people acting like the app will go dark is the owner of the company.

With the obvious motivation to light a fire under the employees and an excuse to get rid of a lot of them. Musk has enough money where Twitter is going to hang around for a while.

He said bankruptcy is a possibility.

Most likely to motivate and justify some of the extreme moves he is making.

Real bankruptcy is a long process.

But I'm mostly talking about the chicken littles and Musk haters acting like it's already the end. I trust the richest man in the world to figure it before I trust a bunch of armchair QBs who never accomplished 1/1000th what Musk has already in his life.

The good news is that my TL has mostly shut up about Twitter.

The bad news is that my TL now seems to be 100% devoted to some crypto scam that imploded upon itself. I didn't realize I had this many "crypto people" in my TL.

All this makes me feel like the tide's going out and we're about to see who's been skinny dipping

I would draw an analogy to NFL owners.

Wealthy guy takes ownership of a new business, has never done it before, onlookers have comments. The new owner starts getting graded right away. Some NFL owners are more likable than others.

I was just going to compare it to the Shark Pool, where armchair coaches, GMs, and team doctors always know more than those who get paid to do it.

This statement is funny. Shark Pool is fantasy football, not NFL strategy mainly. Where....the people playing get paid winnings usually. I think thats how it works.

Yep, and most importantly he took it away from those that were selectively censoring based on their agenda. Already a win no matter what happened from here in my opinion.

You obviously don't pay attention to the game threads. Or the threads where people discuss bad draft picks or coaching decisions.

I guess you are right, it was just a weird comparison in my opinion. But do carry on good sir!

Nice to see the psf has been reincarnated.
Hating on Musk or complaining about the changes doesn't seem all that political to me
No it has nothing to do with politics. It isn't like they hate him because he is dismantling a pillar of the wokiest hold of online censorship. It is purely coincidence that psf hacks keep cheerleading hoping for its downfall.
Care to comment on the blue check fiasco that we are seeing? Please try and be as apolitical as possible jon

The platform needs revenue streams and it is logical to try to make the people who most benefit from Twitter to pay something. The implementation is half-baked, but Musk will figure something out.

The difference is that yesterday fake Adam Schefter and fake Woj could get a blue check next to their names for $8. It made it more difficult to spot the fakes.

Can you at least admit he’s done far more harm to the company than good since buying it?

It’s cool that he trying different things to make his business better but it’s like he’s throwing spaghetti at the wall (is that the expression?).

I think if anyone needs to R-E-L-A-X it’s Elon.

Maybe this will help places like ESPN do their homework instead of broadcasting previous fake schefter and woz news.

I understand it's a problem, but fake news is nothing new. Blue checks may have meant more to the sports world, but there have always been issues.

The funny thing about this blue check you could buy is that it was so obvious that this would happen and I know **** all about Twitter. People were saying this would happen.

It's great watching this like an episode of "Succession".

Not really. They had entire teams dedicated to making sure this stuff didn't happen. You couldn't just pay to be validated...you had to go through a PROCESS.

p.s. - all those teams are now gone.

There were verified pharmaceutical companies tweeting that insulin was free or verified politicians tweeting about missing the killing of Iraqis?

Things are definitely different the past week or so

Seriously someone explain this one to me or don’t perhaps that is verboten
Probably akin to bringing up Fauci. Positive nature its ok, negative its political.

Well Fauci is a good example. There was one side who believes only the official government narrative should be discussed, while the other side believes the official narrative should be open to criticism. During Covid, critics had to walk on eggshells in fear of being banned and demoniterized if they dared uttered something deemed as misinformation such as suggesting Covid originated from a leak from a Chinese lab, or the ineffectiveness of cloth masks, or question if it was wise for children to be vaccinated. Musk seemingly will open up the discussion much more which scares the hell out of those who want to gatekeep information.
Am I understanding correctly that the contention is that people want to see Twitter now fail so these types of discussions can't be posted on it?

And it's affecting their stock price. re: Eli Lilly

That Pharma company's stock just lost billions in value today. I don't follow the market so I am not sure if health care got crushed today but I am sure many companies will draw a connection here.

Contention? It is a statement of fact. Twitter, Facebook, and Google colluded with government agencies on what misinformation needs to be censored. There is a large segment that believes speech needs to be controlled. Speech is violence.
With all due respect is there any way we can keep government and politics out of this thread? For guys like me this thread has had a great amount of information regarding Musk buying twitter.

And the analysis of it.

The worst is that now half of my feed is just people dunking on Musk or retweeting these fake accounts instead of posting news/opinions/updates that I want to see. Sad.
