U.S. Ambassador to Libya Killed in Rocket Attack (1 Viewer)

CBS News has learned the Obama admin has turned Benghazi docs to senate intel comm

One source who viewed the docs says someone in a federal agency "press shop" was involved in changing the talking points to remove al Qaeda

An official familiar with the docs says there were warnings from Libya sent to Washington in the days leading up to the attack--(cont)

--that specifically warned of an imminent attack on the US compound in Benghazi

A source familiar with the docs says most every communication between Libya and DC from the start of the attacks referenced --

--al Qaeda or al Qaeda affiliates as being the likely instigators

A source who viewed the docs says the few that mentioned a protest on benghazi nite were not first hand references

Two sources believe Benghazi survivor info and transcripts still have not been provided in unredacted form to committee

So freaking ridiculous. Bush admin isn't accountable for invading Iraq on manipulated intel, but by God anybody who mislabels something for a couple minutes in Obamas administration and there'd better be hearings.

How about we hold them both accountable rather than pointing fingers and saying the other party or administration did something wrong? I know the Bush administration bungled the decision to go into Iraq. Time will tell what went on here.

It seems very obvious that those in charge don't seem to want to cooperate. At this point why they don't just come forth with any "secrets" or special info, there is no risk of re-election, just lay all the cards out on the table.

Feels like under other administrations there would have been a measured and adequate response, now we do nothing it seems.

I'd be careful about your inflammatory speech here - the current admin is recording everything you say electronically for further review.

I figure they won't get to my comments before 2026 and I'll be a drooling fool that you good people are paying to have my diaper changed so I'm good

Can't they both be wrong? And I like how you minimize the debacle.. "mislabels something for a couple minutes" Yea that's all it was.. No harm or inappropriate behavior here...

It was deliberately mislabeled in a cover up attempt.

Republicans -----> :deadhorse: <----- Benghazi
We need a :headinthesand: smilie for Dems
Why? Doesn't seem to have changed the election much...what damage do you see it doing to the current administration?
You don't think a scandal on Secretary Clinton's watch has value to the GOP facing a likely Clinton candidacy?
No, there is nothing to see here; Clinton is a shoe-in as the nominee...

Republicans -----> :deadhorse: <----- Benghazi
Republicans represented by swinging a stick is pretty spot on to me.

But 4 Americans killed in Benghazi represented by a dead horse is pretty classless.

I'd like the families of the deceased to find out the truth. They deserve to know it. I hope the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee gets the testimony they need this week to give the families the truth.

It's unfortunate that finding out the truth of what happened has to be dominated by the over aggressiveness of republicans and over passiveness of democrats on the issue. Both approaches by the parties are disrespectful to the deceased and their families.

this might end up being the worst week ever for Clinton and Obama. We'll see what comes out on Wed.

regardless of whatever testimony comes to light, the entire saga was and continues to be a gigantic joke. We had ample warnings, we ignored them, we didn't react when the attacks began and turned our back on those people. We still haven't gone after the perps, haven't even bothered with a drone strike, even though we know who the perps are. And a guy that had nothing to do with the reason this attack occured, was jailed by this administration and still sits in jail. All of it is pathetic.

Damn :goodposting:

Sadly it will only be by the over aggressiveness of Republicans that we will figure out what happened. For the Democrat party it happened "so long ago" (the families surely appreciate that comment, Jay Carney) it really isn't worth bothering looking into.

Don't forget the FBI just releasing pictures of the perps 8 months later. Still shaking my head over that one.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN KARACHI?

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN UZBEKISTAN?

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN SAUDI ARABIA?

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN SYRIA?

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN YEMEN?

Why is Benghazi a big deal. and yet these are not?????

Whenever you have the following:

1. House of Representatives and President from opposite political parties.

2. Unclear incident in which people die due to mistakes or mishaps by the federal government.

3. Government officials, usually low level, playing the "cover your ###" game, which involves changing details of the story afterward to make it more confusing.

4. A grass roots movement that hates the President, and is willing to accept any conspiracy.

...what you get are Congressional hearings, which dig endlessly into the matter, designed with one purpose: to embarrass the President. We as taxpayers pay millions of dollars in order to supposedly uncover the "truth"- but the "truth" is almost never uncovered because there is usually no smoking gun. Watergate was the ONE time there was a smoking gun. In all the years since, and all the endless investigations since (Iran-Contra, Whitewater, Fast and Furious, just to name a few) nothing ever happens, nobody gives a ####. Nothing is going to happen this time around either. Just a big yawner.

Exactly.

Nobody (or most people) doesn't care because most of the media adores Obama and won't go on and on about anything that makes him look bad, but trust me, if the switch was flipped and it had been a Republican in the White House when this happened, they wouldn't stop talking about it, and then plenty of people would care. But the media for the most part doesn't talk about it, and when it is brought up, you get that "Oh, we are still talking about this?" answer from the White House. Jay Carney even said last week that Benghazi was a "long time ago" , so that shows you how much the White House is trying to bury this.

And of course the GOP's interest in this is politically-motivated, but that doesn't mean that there is nothing there. And if the situation had been reversed, as I said earlier, the GOP would have done everything possible to bury it as well, so this is nothing new, from either side. They both suck.

Oh, I agree. To make a big deal out of one and not another is lame (and typical of the GOP), but that doesn't mean we should ignore everything.

Can't imagine there is a bigger, more glaring example of the ridiculous media bias in this country than with this story.

Sad that people on this board and in this administration would rather mock the tragedy than figure out what happened.

Doubt it. We've had those too- October Surprise, Iran-Contra, Iraq talking points memo, Valerie Plame, etc. I could go on and on- those are just a few examples. The only ones that cared were liberal partisans. The public never gave a #### about any of it.

The tragedy isn't the issue. This nonsense is still in the news b/c of the administration's approach of not calling it a "terrorist attack" for a couple of weeks. So all of this is about semantics.

Which is absolutely ridiculous.

Bury what? The important questions to be raised are all about why we didn't have adequate security at the embassy. What was the process and why did it fail? How can we improve the system so that we can prevent this from happening again, or how can react more quickly and provide aid when it inevitably does happen again?

Of course those aren't the questions being asked by House Republicans. They simply want to know why the administration was cautious with calling it a terrorist attack afterward. Which is silly.

They all should be big deals. They're not because Americans for the most part don't care much about terrorism... except when it happens on our turf.

When people are killed in a terrorist act on American soil nearly every single American wants to know the who, what, where, when, why and how and we're glued to their TV sets and internet feeds hoping to get those awswer as soon as possible.

But when terrorism occurs in foriegn countries, even when Americans are killed, most Americans are

And the media doesn't want to waste time on stories that Americans find boring.

I dunno, but a few died in Iraq. And actually a #### load more innocent Iraqi civilians died. But they were brown, so they don't really count. But now this situation is really something we need to get to the bottom of. I mean, NOT CALLING IT TERRORISM RIGHT AWAY? OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!! And this was in such a safe place, too. It could have just as easily happened in Pentagon City.

Or about the lies and misinformation about WMDs and Sadam's ties to Al Qaeda that led us into the war in Iraq.

10 in Karachi. In Uzbekistan, 2 were killed and 9 were wounded. 8 in Saudi Arabia. 1 in Syria. 10 in Yemen.

So, there's that.

Might want to look closer. One killed in Pakistan and that wasn't at the embassy but down the block near a Marriott.

So, there's that.

Nine Americans died in the Saudi Arabia compound attacks, 31 total. Fairly similar events although executing them in Saudi Arabia is much more difficult than in what was a remote outpost in Libya.

Circumstances were different however since the Americans in Saudi Arabia were to be protected by host nation exclusively while in Libya it should have bee a mix of host nation and U.S. personnel.
