Why did rr just stand there and get lit up?  Shouldn't she have tried to get inside and take it to the ground?
Everyone is acting like this was a 3 round fight with Rhonda never going for a takedown. this thing officially ended at 48 seconds. It was really over way before that. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Rousey got popped a few seconds in. Even the most one dimensional wrestlers don't go for a takedown the first 10 seconds. There's a feeling out period. Rhonda never survived that part. Props to Nunes. Beast mode. Let's get her in there with Cyborg.

i dont understand the tactic of standing up with Nunes....at what point in her career  did Rousey decide she was a striker?
When she was beating mayweather

Agree with this for the most part, but her crappy coach and camp definitely hurt her too. She really leans on the same exact game plan every time, which is basically charging straight in winging haymakers trying to get to the clinch. She could definitely benefit from a change to one of the elite teams IMO, as the raw tools and grappling base are there. But I'm guessing that she's probably done now, so we might never know.

On Ronda's tactics, the debate on strategy is exactly what has the MMA community in uproar against her trainer Edmund (guy going nuts in the audio above). His "boxing" training has ruined potential for Ronda, Jake Ellenberger, and Travis Browne. Watch Browne's horrible boxing at UFC 208 and see if you see any commonality with Ronda's strategy.

It's not that she shouldn't have tried to get things to the ground, it's how hapless she looked in getting into a clinch. She looked like she had never attempted it before because she was stuck somewhere between getting rocked by another Nunes punch and crappy training/strategy from Edmund. Watch an earlier Ronda match and you'll see her get inside and gain position to grapple even while eating strikes.

I'd like to see Kayla Harrison get into these fights.  She's probably raw as #### like Rhonda, but I am rooting for her anyway.  She may never show up in some lame movie with a cameo, but I like her anyway.

I enjoyed Cruz/Garbrant even though rooting for Cruz.  Wouldn't have been surprised if a judge gave Cruz 1,2 & 5 but he clearly lost.   People hated Garbrant's taunting... but some of it was warranted.  He was in the zone with his head movement and looked unhittable at a point in the 3rd or 4th.  Nearly Anderson Silvia like.  Super impressive.  I'm looking forward to a couple rematches if Dom can hold up another couple years.

I just can't figure out what Ronda has been doing the past 6 months. She was obviously in shape so she was in the gym. It seems she should have gone to some city like Detroit, found some inner city boxing gym, and worked her ### off for four months just training hands. She knows it's her weakness and she did nothing to improve. It's just so strange to me.

Seems like everyone knows she needs to dump Edmund except her.

There is some clear co-dependency issues between her and that nut.

I have no idea if she got the worlds worst edit on TUF when she was a coach but from what they showed it was pretty clear she had some pretty serious mental issues and that Edmund only fed into them.  My opinion of her changed dramatically based on that show (which is probably unfair because of the edit but my guess is that there is some fire behind that smoke)

Nunes in the post fight press conference took a poke at Edmund too saying she has no idea why a dominant judo fighter is continually being pushed as a boxer.

I sometimes think the knock out of Alexis Davis sent Edmund down this path to turn Ronda into a striker which has turn out to be a mess.

Reminds me of when Demian Maia spent a lot of time working on his striking. That gave us a Demian Maia who would get lit up on the feet, lacked polish on his takedowns, and rarely would get into grappling situations. He wised up.

Rousey should work on defensive striking - head movement and footwork - and transitions to clinches. Her offensive striking will never be good enough to threaten a quality boxer/kickboxer. Never.

So weird. I used that exact example talking to a buddy last night. Maia's striking is just good enough to keep people honest and just good enough so he doesn't get knocked out. That's all he needs and all Rousey needs.

Khabib apparently offered Tony Ferguson $200k for the fight.  I don't see any way Dana doesn't end up paying him.  It's the only fight for Khabib until McGregor.  McGregor did say recently that he never said how long he was stepping away.  I suppose CM could take a Khabib fight.

In other news, Rogan said Nick Diaz turned down a Robbie Lawler fight.

Cruz, post-fight, has made me a fan.  Seems like a great dude.
He's also a great analyst. Definitely a cerebral fighter and seems to have a really good head on his shoulders. I'd imagine the multiple knee injuries in a row taking away most of his prime gave him some pretty good perspective on stuff -- and the amount of physical and mental toughness necessary to come back from what he went through to reclaim his belt is pretty amazing.

Isn't Nick Diaz still stuck with that ridiculously stupid weed suspension? I thought that was basically a "you're never fighting again" punishment (like 5 years or something)?

He's been eligible to fight for almost 6 months at this point.  I think he has to pay some fine to get reinstated, which he hasn't done.
He's been making noise about retirement for a while -- but I'd bet that he'd come back for something huge / a massive payday. Not sure if Lawler II fight fits that bill -- although as a fan I'd absolutely freaking LOVE to see that rematch.

Lord almighty, that UFC 208 card is dog doodoo. Condolences to anyone willing to pay for that. But hey - they have a title fight!!1

Hoping that this becomes less common with the decreased international focus. I'd like to go back to the good old days of far fewer events, but totally stacked cards, personally.

I think they were trying to book a few big fights, but weren't able to.  I'm not sure if it was for 208, but we have heard mentions of GDP, Diaz, Khabib, Ferguson, Lawler, Aldo etc.

I'm not sure if it's too late to add fights, but I agree this is a garbage card.
