UFC wagering: no longer stuck with the old thread title. The window to change it is here! (4 Viewers)

Agree that Jimmy Smith was great. Still like me some Rogan, but now when he decides to move on it will not be a completely depressing moment. I like them both a lot. Hopefully the mess behind them works itself out before that happens.

i know Bisping is looking to retire but with how Yoel just KO'd Luke into another world, would like Luke-Bisping 3 and another KO for the Count

Bruce Leeroy is now 3-6 in his last nine fights.   I guess being entertaining provides you with some job security.
I know him pretty well from the MMA Lab. He's a really great guy, super nice. And so damn athletic. Like, more athletic than anyone in the gym. He does things to heavy bags that blow my mind.

But he kind of sucks as a fighter. He just doesn't keep his hands up, and he tries to rely too much on his athleticism. If he would be more disciplined in his standup and focus on form and technique instead of trying to be entertaining, he'd win a lot more fights.

I actually enjoy his fights.    I hate to say it but if he played it safer and won more decisions I probably wouldn't enjoy him as much.

98% of my shticky dislike of him is because @SacramentoBob was on his hype train early.

Anyone watching tonight? Ronaldo-Jouban notched a maaaaaaassive KO on Saunders, crumpled him in a Napão/Cro Cop bent-leg heap.

Then Hill/Moroz stunk up the joint. At least Hill won. Pretty sure I auto-hate every fighter who kiais all fight long.

Also, Yahya is so damn slick on the ground, even though he’ll never be more than a midcarder.

Saunders Gets KO’d

Not watching at the moment but thought I’d share the highlight you mentioned.

glad to hear (the nice part, not that he sucks). always seemed like he had good potential because of that athleticism and he seems to enjoy the training/learning

Damn, that was a hell of a fight. Amazing how Andrade keeps pushing the pace. Crazy brute strength on her takedowns too. Wow.

Also, I have no idea how we ended up with a Stephens/Emmett main event. Lawd. I could not possibly care less. BOTH of them qualify for “who tf is that”, but one Lamas KO and here we are.

If no belt is on the line, I’d say this main event fight is pretty standard for a ufc on fox show.

Stephens should have been disqualified. Two elbows to the back of the head and then the knee.

I seriously don’t know if I’d even heard of Emmett before the Lamas fight.

I thought the one angle showed the knee was a total whiff besides a slight contact when his leg was working back towards the mat?

I guess I get the elbow debate, but it was close and in the moment I can see how it was let go. Probably was over either way.

he missed by hair...but the intent was there

But that doesn’t matter. Although these guys always have intent to knock someone into oblivion.

Is it possible he thought Emmett was getting up?

I have no experience, but I’ve always thought this is a very difficult situation for a fighter.

it would have mattered if he had landed that knee...would have been DQ`d and suspended

The illegal knee wasn’t thrown accidentally, or in the heat of the moment. Stephens spoke about his actions, saying it was clearly his intention to land the knee, but it seems like he has misunderstood the new rules that are in place.

He thought it was legal, and brought up a conversation he had with the referee about the rules briefing.

“Dan Miragliotta came in the back (before the fight). He said this is the new unified rules,” Stephens said. “He said that if two hands are down, you can lift one hand up to knee. If he’s on his knees, and one hand is up, it’s okay to throw a knee.”

“I’m not a dirty fighter, I never have been my whole life. I saw an opportunity, and I was looking for it.”

There was likely a disconnect during that conversation Stephens mentioned, and the FOX crew didn’t mention or correct him on these. The new rule discussing one hand vs two hands only applies if the opponent is on his feet with his hand(s) touching the canvas. If the opponent is on his knees, like Emmett was, he is automatically a “grounded” fighter and he cannot be kicked or kneed in the head regardless of his hand position.

So while it seems like there was no malice in there, Stephens’ knee was both illegal and intentionally thrown. It wasn’t a poor decision made on the heat of the moment while trying to finish the fight. He saw an opening and he planned that strike because he apparently thought it wasn’t against the rules.

The link is to an article about the potentially illegal strikes and in the article is the video of said strikes. There’s another video where DC and Cruz discuss it.

It's 2018 and some states can't even agree on a new set of rules. WTF.

I don't blame the fighters for not knowing what each state allows or doesn't allow. It's stupid as hell.

The odds on Cyborg are getting so high that it might be worth taking a shot on Yana at +1000 (+1400 for a stoppage). Fight Odds I don’t see how she wins other than a lucky kick or punch. But at those odds in the MMA world I feel like the freak upsets are more possible/profitable.

Anyone have anything on this fight card?
