Uhhhh….Antonio Brown just quit mid game (1 Viewer)

I feel like my reaction to career implosions tends to move through three stages. First, humor (AB freezing his feet). Then anger (the sexual assault allegations). Today we moved conclusively into Stage 3: sadness.

That's not to excuse his behavior in any way. His career is almost certainly over, and deservedly so. I just think he's sick and I hope he gets the help he needs.

Hey guys,

Want to respond to having him picked up for acting bizarrely.  Not sure about that jurisdiction, but here in Canada, only a Dr could order that.  The police have no authority unless a law is being broken.

He has to be an imminent danger to himself or others to be made involuntary and forcibly placed in a hospital for assessment.

If the police picked up every person acting oddly, Times Square would be empty.

PS....he does need a psych eval though.

Never have I wanted more to see a person go broke and end up penniless.

Good chance you will get your wish.

Brown is mentally ill.  Truth is he has probably been mentally ill his whole life.  Being a pro athlete sometimes can actually make it worse as if you can play you answer to pretty much nobody.

AB arrested? For quitting his job and leaving the workplace? I get it, he is a jerk and may have serious mental problems but saying he should have been arrested today is a ridiculous stance. Nothing wrong with having security with him while he cleans out his locker or escorting him out after but arresting him? Come on.

I do think AB deserved a night in the psyche ward before being released and let's not also overlook that once he flies off the chain that he is still put in the back of a squad car and run off to the airport, wasn't welcome to travel with the team back, Tom's saying we need to be empathetic and if true then a night under Doctor's care before he is announced as no longer being a Buc, maybe that should happen and they shouldn't fire him at the press conference although I maintain Arians fired AB on the sidelines and he was a civilian the minute he took his shoulder pads and jersey off but that's me, not the SP view though.

On what grounds?

I hope the NFL hammers him and the Bucs both hard with fines for him throwing his clothes into the stands.  With COVID going around and the latest variant going around like mad, that is a very unhealthy and dangerous act he committed.
Can't be serious...

He is not fired on the sidelines. The GM needs to fire him, I am sure  there is also some paperwork that has to be filed. What did he do that deserves a stay in the psych ward? He quit his job and took his shirt off. He did not do anything to threaten the safety of himself or others.

I would point out that EVERYBODY on both teams is a civilian.  The NFL uniform does not make you military or even paramilitary.

you are probably correct and as such my remarks were insensitive.

-He shoulda been arrested!

MoP you can't do that

-He should been Baker Act and sent to a psyche ward for immediate evaluation

MoP you can't do that

-He was fired on the sidelines

MoP no he wasn't

-Alright, he was fired at the press conference and thrown in the back of a cop car

MoP only the GM can release him so he's still a Buc

Lots of vitriol here... and I get it.  Brown has squandered opportunities most of us couldn't dream if and, along the way, has violated our standards of behavior in outrageous fashion. However, I do hope he finds the help he needs before someone, including AB, is truly hurt.

This was the best possible situation he could have been in. A blessing. Now he’ll go off the rails. This won’t end well and has nothing to do with football. Definitely mentally ill. Hope he doesn’t take anyones else down with him

Does it really have to be mental illness? Maybe he's a really good football player that's just a giant #######. It's not unprecedented. Hall of Fame is probably full of them. Lawrence Taylor is still getting arrested and he's beloved. And don't recall a lot of "Hey, it's mental illness... he didn't know she was only 16" talk.

Everything happened exactly as it should have happened. He was cut from the team immediately.

Also, a Baker Act is a very serious thing. You're taking away someone's rights and liberty. It can't be because "he did something crazy on the field, and man, he has a history of doing weird stuff." He has to be a danger to himself or others. You can't just arbitrarily hold someone against their will because they created a spectacle on television.

Also, on what grounds would the police detain him? What did he do? Suspicion of what, exactly?

Should loved ones check on him? Absolutely, just to make sure he's okay. But imo it's a very scary thing that people would be so nonchalant about taking away someone's liberty because...he quit on a football team?

No matter what is ultimately deemed the actual reason(s) for his unprecedented walk-off today, at the end of the day he very likely cost me a Championship.

Yeah, yeah....I know....it's only fantasy football, but that's not only uncool, but it's hurts the pocketbook and negates 17 weeks of hard work.

Wish that ankle would have kept him out today. Sat Amon-Ra St. Brown for him.  :wall:

ya that's tough.  St Brown has been an absolute stud throughout the last few weeks though.  Who else did you start over him??

How much are you losing by?

People forget that Randy Moss quit on the Raiders in the middle of a game and still got another chance. So long as there's football to be played...

Anyone who rostered him deserves their defeat because he was and has always been a lose canon. You started him not knowing he can lose his mind if the autumn wind blows just for a brief second?

You made a championship then decided on sitting the hottest player because you wanted to play brown? No one lost that title but you my man.. If you play mentally risky players, its still a risk even if he is ok at the moment.

Whats that saying... names dont win championships, points do?
Yikes, cut him some slack.  I don't know why he sat Amon-ra, but FBG had Brown as WR8 this week and was pretty much a must start everywhere.

He could have pulled off 2 Td's just as easy as he pulled off his 2 Tees.

In addition to people always asking Monkey why he’s so harsh of professional athletes now we have people asking him why he’s so harsh on fantasy players. This guy’s a real lightening rod.
