Perfect. Loved their moodier stuff that came out later that seemed like nobody listened to, including that bizarre O'rang thing.Talk Talk. Most people think they were an 80s 1 hit wonder but they had two of the defining albums of post-rock, plus one of the best art rock albums of the 80s. Genius band that was way ahead of their time.
Great call.Talk Talk. Most people think they were an 80s 1 hit wonder but they had two of the defining albums of post-rock, plus one of the best art rock albums of the 80s. Genius band that was way ahead of their time.
I did as the OP asked. They seem pretty universally ranked as a top tier band.
You are correct and I have no idea who Spoon is.Agreed regarding the Spoon love in the FFA, but I'm assuming the OP was referring to the general population.
I went to a Spoon show last week and whenever I told anyone in the days leading up to the show who I was seeing I got a blank stare. Now, I do live in Utah, so maybe take that with a grain of Salt Lake, but I don't think they have a wide following in the general population.
Pffft. Talk to me when they've been selling out arenas and stadiums for 5 decades. They've sold a billion records, have a star on the hollywood walk of fame and are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They're considered one of the best American bands ever and they've been selling out arenas & stadiums for 4 decades.
Yep.They've sold a billion records, have a star on the hollywood walk of fame and are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They're considered one of the best American bands ever and they've been selling out arenas & stadiums for 4 decades.
Silversun Pickups are hugely underrated. Great band.Silversun Pickups, Joywave, AFI, The Dirty Heads are a few that come to mind. Im sure I'll edit and add more as I think of some.
This is a true statement. Amazing artistic talent.Jurassic 5
Not a band but Beck is pretty much a genius
The Helio Sequence
And, I'll second the Spoon nomination
Absent from the Billboard ListYep.
and they barely made a list of 100 all time greats.
Nickelback, Miley Cyrus, and Prince. All about the same in talent and accomplishments I'd say.Absent from the Billboard List
But at least they've got The Moody Blues, Linkin Park, and Nickel back covered.

Lists gonna be listsNickelback, Miley Cyrus, and Prince. All about the same in talent and accomplishments I'd say.
Lol at grouping Prince with those 2.Nickelback, Miley Cyrus, and Prince. All about the same in talent and accomplishments I'd say.
Excellent post. Probably my favorite band of all time. The Black Crowes .
Meh. Overrated. You are correct and I have no idea who Spoon is.
You are a ######ed person for grouping Prince with that filth.Nickelback, Miley Cyrus, and Prince. All about the same in talent and accomplishments I'd say.
I can agree, for the most part. The first Pickup's song I ever heard was Lazy Eye....which I despise. Wrote them off because of that for a couple of years. Listened to some other tracks at that point and was much more impressed.TheAristocrat said:Silversun Pickups are hugely underrated. Great band.
Not a fan of the religious leanings, but LOVE their sound. Gretchen and FHL were in heavy rotation for me in HS.Another vote for King's X. Thrilled to see so many here are aware of them. I'm not used to that.
Definitely yes.The Walkmen. Their highs are on Radiohead levels. Criminally underrated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC7dYxTSAbY
Ok, lll bite.XTC is a great call.
My pick is a band that's been around 32 years and that just held a residency at Madison Square over 17 days in which they performed 13 nights to either sold-out or nearly sold-out shows. The mainstream media hardly covered the run, and only a small percentage of FBGs have been chatting about it. The band played 237 songs clocking in at just under 40 hours yet they did not repeat a song. It was a feat that likely had never been considered before nor will any band ever match what they did. That's the most underrated band I know.
You SOB. You left out Neko Case. Also, this thread is once again proof that the ffa underrates the ladies. Anything from Sleater-Kinney to Tori Amos belongs in here.
1. I wouldn't call BIlly Joel a band.XTC is a great call.

Not when the Gin Blossoms are playing. They rock. You got your fingers in your ears?
I thought he meant literal gin blossoms. Who are we to judge any drunk's drink of choice? You got your fingers in your ears?
