Here's my best crack at it (even though I am regretting not keeping LaMar Gordon at $2 with the talk of trad rumors -- now proven true). Team Name = Fleshy Headed Mutants (same as last year).QB:Carson Palmer - Bye 5 $ 8 3.2%Joey Harrington - Bye 4 $ 7 2.8%David Carr - Bye 7 $ 6 2.4%Total QB: $ 21 8.4%I originally wanted to get Hasselbeck or Trent Green, but remembered how last year I think I spent $17 on Kurt Warner because I was too cheap to pay a few more bucks for Peyton Manning. Well, Warner crapped out on me, but my other QB's picked up the slack. So this year I am taking a QBBC approach, hoping that at least one of the three will go off each week (all three have different bye weeks).RB
ortis, Clinton - Bye 7 $ 82 32.8%Jones, Thomas - Bye 5 $ 33 13.2%Griffin, Quentin - Bye 10 $ 20 8.0%Davenport, Najeh - Bye 9 $ 3 1.2%Dayne, Ron - Bye 6 $ 3 1.2%Total RB: $141 56.4%Definitely a Running Back heavy team. Last year I was big on Ahman Green and Jamal Lewis, which of course, helped me make it to the later rounds. They were fairly cheap last year. I don't remember how far I went (if anyone has a link to last year's standings, I would greatly appreciate it). I looked at the point dropoff (average pts per game) between stud QBs (Culpepper, Manning, Hasselbeck, Green) and noticed there was only about a 5pt per week difference between studs and middle of the road. For RBs, however, the difference in pts per week is more like 10 pts per week (going on value). So I decided to load up on RB's (all with different bye weeks). Hopefully Portis will be able to endure the workload in Washington. I have a feeling I should have kept Lamar Gordon at $2 instead of being a Wisconsin homer and taking Dayne (even though I hear he looks good and 30 pounds lighter?)WR:Jackson, Darrell - Bye 4 $ 38 15.2%Lloyd, Brandon - Bye 7 $ 17 6.8%Ferguson, Robert - Bye 9 $ 4 1.6%Hilliard, Ike - Bye 6 $ 3 1.2%Bradford, Corey - Bye 7 $ 2 0.8%Parker, Eric - Bye 10 $ 2 0.8%Terrell, David - Bye 5 $ 2 0.8%Total WR: $ 68 27.2%I wanted Darrell Jackson and Jimmy Smith as my 1-2 punch, but couldn't swing it. I'm hoping I got some steals at WR at the $2-4$ range. Ferguson was the only Packer on the 1st team to score in pre-season. Keep hearing a lot of hype on J. Walker, but haven't seen him produce (I know, it's pre-season). Only two WR have the same bye. Pretty weak at WR, but hopefully at least 3 of the 7 will go off at the right time...TE:Stevens, Jerramy - Bye 4 $ 4 1.6%Smith, LJ - Bye 5 $ 3 1.2%Total TE: $ 7 2.8%I think last year's team won with Tony Gonzalez. Something to keep an eye on this year. Just couldn't justify the $39... If the winning team has Gonzo this year, I'm picking him next year!K:Hanson, Jason - Bye 4 $ 3 1.2%Graham, Shayne - Bye 5 $ 2 0.8%Total Kicker: $ 5 2.0%They're kickers. Nuff said.Def:Green Bay - Bye 9 $ 4 1.6%St Louis - Bye 8 $ 4 1.6%Total Defense: $ 8 3.2%Homer again. Green Bay D has been focused on turnovers in camp this year. No point or yardage penalties, so why not. St Louis is solid too for $4.Time to sit back and watch the show...
Good luck gentlemen!
Good luck gentlemen!
illon, Corey (NE/3) - $55Johnson, Rudi (Cin/5) - $40Griffin, Quentin (Den/10) - $20Williams, Moe (Min/4) - $6Alstott, Mike (TB/8) - $4I would rather get three solid backs than pay an exorbiant amount for one superstar like Priest or LT2. I had Suggs instead of Griffin for the longest time, but shied away at the last moment because of the recent uncertainty surrounding him, and tweaked my lineup to include Griffin instead. Mike Alstott and Moe Williams have something in common; they are both goal-line backs. They offer good value at such low prices because there's a chance they could go off for a multi-touchdown game.WR:Burress, Plaxico (Pit/7) - $19Kennison, Eddie (KC/5) - $11Gardner, Rod (Was/7) - $10Morgan, Quincy (Cle/8) - $7Driver, Donald (GB/9) - $6Rice, Jerry (Oak/10) - $4Davis, Andre' (Cle/8) - $4My philosophy here was to go with cheaply priced receivers that I felt offered good upside. I don't know how anyone can pass up Jerry Rice at $4. He should be a must have on everyone's roster. I like the idea of having both Morgan and Davis because I think that the Cleveland passing game will flourish under Garcia, and one of these guys should be good for a big game each week. The price was right, too.TE:Jones, Freddie (Ari/6) - $7Gates, Antonio (SD/10) - $6Didn't want to spend very much at this position. Hopefully this tandem will be good enough.PK:Elam, Jason (Den/10) - $7Akers, David (Phi/5) - $6Two top kickers. Would have had Vanderjqgt instead of Akers if I had two extra bucks to spendDEF:Baltimore (Bal/6) - $9Dallas (Dal/4) - $6Two top defenses were a high priority for me.
editted to add: I know the values are different this year(best players cost Mucho $$$) and it may wind up changing the strategie. I just thought this was interesting to see how the money was spent.
Guess I'll have to wait until the first week's standings are posted.
, unless of course the 2nd place person wants to cut a deal with me and split the pot (I'll take the cash, and you can have the projector).
) Worked last year and I'll try it again this year...Good luck to all!
