Unofficial Trump running mate thread. (1 Viewer)

I'm changing my pic.  I definitely think it will be Jim Jordan.  This has nothing to do with politics (although it helps that he's a Trump apologist).  This has to do with his height.  Trump will look so big when standing next to Jordan.  And that is the most important thing to Trump.

Holy crap, you just sent me down a Google rabbit hole. If you search for "how tall is jim jordan" you get various results saying anywhere from 6'0" to 5'8". But the author of this Twitter thread seems to have done some sleuthing, and for one thing, he wrestled at 134 in college. Not a lot of 6-footers who are that skinny (much less competitive wrestlers).

Also, if you just look at a bunch of pictures of him standing next to people it's very clear he's on the shorter side (the photo of him with Matt Gaetz is particularly revealing).

My educated guess would be 5'6", max 5'8".

By the way, if he does pick Jordan we should all agree to drop the "Gym Jordan" jokes (which I've always found to be offensive) and just make fun of his height non-stop, since that will be the quickest way to get Trump to sour on him.

You're right.

If Trump runs (a big if-IMO he won't allow himself to be embarrassed again), he will motivate every person not in his following to come out and make sure he does get embarrassed again.  Whoever he chooses will be easily cowed by him and a total "yes-person".  And yes, no one will care.

This is an intriguing thought. What would the polling numbers have to be to have him just not run?

I'd take Herschel Walker.

I wish Candace Owens had political experience of any kind. But then, I think Harris is horribly underqualified as was Obama so, I guess it don't much matter anymore :(

Obama is a constitutional law scholar that taught the subject at one of the most prestigious law schools in the country and was a senator in some form since 1997. I understand you don't like the guy and disagree with his policies, but how can you say he's "underqualified"? I ask this especially in the context of Herschel Walker who I don't even believe has a degree in political science, never served in the military, and has never held public office.

WTF apparently Gaetz and I have the same taste in shoes. I own that same pair.

And while supporting the most unqualified person to ever hold the office in Donald Trump.

Even after 4 years in office...he is still woefully unqualified for the position.

The thing is, after 2016 (and to a lesser extent, 2020) he has carte blanche to never trust the polls again. So I can't imagine that being a persuasive argument.

On the other hand, Herschel Walker's platform is, in full, "Trump", so there's that.

Is this trolling?  What presidents do you think were qualified?

oh I don't think Walker is qualified - I think he'd bring in plenty of votes though

experience isn't required anymore not is sound mind

I predict voter turnout similar to the last election. If nothing else, Trump motivates people to take action.

And nobody cares about the VP.

To me the turnout in 2024 - if we get Trump vs. Biden round 2 - is solely down to what some people thought about 1/6.  My uneducated prediction is in 3 more years it won't move the needle as much as one would expect.  I could actually see turnout going down some - less mail-in ballots, folks not willing to vote for either, etc.

That's probably good for Trump. Kinda reminds me of 2016.

The way I see it, people enthusiastically voted against Trump (not necessarily because they liked Biden) even before Jan 6, and seeing that nonsense can only motivate them to vote again. That's true for me at least.

I think there's enough folks that see Biden as a trainwreck and will just not vote.  Combine that with it being not as easy to vote next time (assumption on my part) - I think we have fewer people vote.  Just a guess though.  Honestly, right now I just hope it's anybody else on both sides.  Hopefully somebody not in their 70's.

Dude, Trump is NOT picking Obama as his running mate.
I dunno, I was told by some very wise people in this thread that if Trump picked a vibrant young Black person*, he'd win the Black vote and romp to victory. So why not Obama? It would be the ultimate manifestation of the old Bum Phillips line, "He can take hiz'n and beat your'n, and then he can take your'n and beat hiz'n."

* OK, technically he said "woman", so maybe Michelle?

Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL for it. My god. The U.S. would come to a stand still. No one would know what to do.

Biden's train wreck is 1000% better than more Trump. People have to realize not voting for Hillary earned him his presidency, right?

You're probably right about voting being more difficult, though I don't think it will hamper turn out enough in swing areas to make a second Trump presidency possible.

If apathy allows Trump or one of his neophytes to seize power, I'll lose whatever shred of hope for humanity I gained in 2020.

I share this opinion but you can just read posts from many level-headed posters in the PSF to know that it's not a universally held opinion among those who voted for Biden to make sure Trump didn't get re-elected.  Hell, if I lived in a state where my vote wouldn't really matter I wouldn't vote for Biden either.  Since my state will be one of about 10 swing states next time I will be voting for a ham sandwich over him but the discussion was around overall turnout - I could see folks in already decided states sitting out a Biden v. Trump 2.

How hilarious would it be if that phenomenon was so widespread that Trump ended up winning the popular vote while losing in the Electoral College?

Reminds me of an old Bloom County cartoon (alas, can't find it online) where one character suggests nominating Jesse Jackson for president.

“Naw, we’ll alienate half the country.”

“Jesse Helms!”

“Then we’ll alienate the other half.”

“Jesse and Jesse! Let’s alienate everyone!”

It would probably depend on what else was on the ballot in some of the big non-swing states - Texas (don't see it moving in to the swing category for a while still), California, New York.  It would make for some great arguments as folks switch sides on the EC vs. popular vote debate.

This very nearly happened in 2004. If Kerry had flipped 60K votes in Ohio, he would have won the EC while losing the popular vote by about 3M. You can't convince me that, if that had happened two elections in a row with each party getting hosed, it wouldn't have provided the impetus to finally ditch the Electoral College. Instead, GOP benefitted from it again in 2016 and it now is seen completely through a partisan lens.

Let me handle this one @Stealthycat

Because he’s a Democrat.  Duh. Blue bad, Red good.

Fair enough, but clearly we differ in our interpretation of "level-headed'.

I've said this multiple times, but Trump has converted me from a lifelong non-voter to enthusiastic ballot caster for the foreseeable future. No way in he!! will I be complicit with anyone like him ever being elected.

If I were him I'd do whatever it took to get Dan Crenshaw.

Sleeper pick here is Ivanka.

Given how wrong I was in 2016 though and how I should just assume the worst, #### he could go with crazy Kelli Ward for all I know.
Isn’t Crenshaw on video telling his constituents Trump did not win the 2020 election? Not sure Trump’s little ego thingy could handle that.

Haley should be the nominee, but she's not far enough to the right for the Trump base.
She also is too smart to take a VP job under Trump. She would be forced to defend many of his outlandish statements and a good chance she or whoever else (other than a family member) took the VP job would get thrown under the bus along the way. Just ask Pence. I support the thought that Kristi Noem would take it though.

I actually thought some of Obama's policies were bad. Heck, I didn't vote for the guy.

But to claim he wasn't qualified? C'mon...
When viewed in the context of Blue Bad/Red Good everything makes sense.  Everything.

consider the source, man.  keep this conversation going and he'll spin his wheel of nonsense and compare him to drunk driving.  he only has like 10 posts that he randomly rotates.

Since it's clear Trump is running, and it's equally clear Pence won't be his running mate, I thought it would be great fun to discuss potential candidates for him to pick as his VP running mate.

I decided not do a poll and leave it open ended to encourage honest discussion of a wider number possibilities. I also wanted more serious, thoughtful, shtick free conversation since the VP spot is so important. I also wanted to avoid the type of messes that polls tend to create like that one Leroy Hoard made for the GOP that's so horrible. Have you seen it? Just an absolute cluster of poll, my god, just horrible.

Anyhoo, Trump's VP for 2024, GO!
You’re doing the lord’s work here.
I can’t even imagine who signs up for that apocalypse? I’m sure they’ll be plenty.  Trump will get steamrolled.  By a turnip.  So, Joe. 2.0.

Because?  Clear and present danger to democracy.  And, thankfully, most Americans get that.

When talking about qualification, it's tough to take seriously anyone who voted for Trump.....twice.  It didn't matter then, why does it all of a sudden matter now?

Thread may be a bit premature....is it true that DeSantis has pulled even with Trump in recent polling?  Heard a blurb about this on BBC News Hour.  First time they've talked about election politics since our last election and their first story mentions DeSantis.  I can only imagine the slapfight Trump tries to pick with him.  DeSantis wouldn't be the worst option.  It would be a sign that the GOP was getting back to their standard politics.  The only question I really have is where his policies would come from.  As President you sort of have to come up with your own.  DeSantis has been good following the company line.  He gets in trouble when he tries to make his own path.  See his "government shouldn't be telling people/businesses what is best for them." stuff from early 2020 and compare it to what's going down in the state today.  It's a mess when he doesn't stick to the script.

I actually think it will be Pompeo. He brings experience and a sense of "calm" to Trumps outlandish behavior.

Eta: if Trump is the nominee, I think he hurts the Republicans chance to win back the White House.

I don't know, man.....Biden is doing his best Nate Peterman as your President act and if there's not a course correction, Trump will waltz back into office.  Hell, I might even vote for him.  This administration has been an unmitigated disaster.

I really though we would never hear from Trump again.  Biden is failing so bad only 8 months in he might springboard Trump back into the White House on his own.
