UPDATE: Super Bowl I to re-air this time w/o the garbage See post #68 (1 Viewer)

they need to do a version w/o all the unneceasary commentary :(

Like going to a Super Bowl party where nobody shuts up.

Would have liked to watch the game without all the discussion.

Good to see The Hammer hasn't mellowed out much at all with age!

Just awful. What a great opportunity by the NFL to show the game and you couldn't even hear the game announcers much less watch the game without the ridiculous constant chatter

Awful. Why didn't they just show the game?
they nfl networked it. just play the game. with the old commentary. espn still does that with some games and it's so much better than pretty much anything nfl network does--outside of live games.
 Pretty much sums it up. #### and show the game. They went through all t whole "painstaking" process of finding and putting all this footage and marrying it up to the audio and then they blabber through 95% of it. Hopefully they'll come out with a blu-ray of the game minus the talking heads :yucky:

So wait. Someone has the original footage of the game (at least almost all of it) and the NFL won't pony up what is chump change for them to get it?

They probably spent 10x's that amount to put out this garbage.

You are correct. The NFL should just pay the guy and then let NFL Films restore the film or whatever.

Why? They would #### it up just as bad as they did this one.

Unbelievable. I had to turn it off within the first 20 minutes because I couldn't stand all the commentators. There was more footage of them than their was of the actual game. Totally unwatchable.

NFL Films is located in Mt. Laurel. NFLN is in Los Angeles. NFL Films supplies their footage. From there NFL Network does what they do. They want to goof it up with Steve Mariucci and Michael Irvin, that's their call.

NFL network should definitely show more classic games.
When I first heard about the creation of the NFLN I just assumed this was going to make up a chunk of their programming, especially off-season.

I still think they are badly missing the boat on this and think it would be ideal as a fill in the content they create.

Some examples. When they did that Timeline series called the Jersey Boys it would have been sweet to roll out some Parcells era full Giants games.

Early years of NFLN was great. Actual analysis of current games. Highlight footage of old games. First time we saw the combine. The original broadcast of America's game. It was good. Slowly buy surely though, they started grabbing every reired player they could instead of seeking out the talented ones for broadcasting. Just like ESPN, they turned into sideshow to see which one could out Buffoon the other.

I haven't watched either channel in years unless it's for an actual game. Their original content and analysis shows are some of the worst TV you can find now.

Years ago, maybe a half decade ago now, I thought I had heard that NFL Films was miffed at NFLN due to not showing enough old highlight films or something or NFLN was starting to charge more. Umm or something. Something definitely happened though. NFLN was pretty good for a year or two and by about year 3 (2005) started to go in the ESPN direction. The last time I think they reaired some random game (Falcons vs Cowboys 1991) was when Merlin Olsen passed away. Olsen was the color commentator for that game.

Since then, whenever the network shows an old game it is something very recent or the Bengals at Packers game from 1992.

They could literally run old games 24 hours a day with commercial breaks and the channel would run itself. (Reminds me, I miss the old ESPN Classic )

Unfortunately in the never ending quest for more money that's not good enough and it has to be "improved" i.e.; changed to try and make more money.

Do they still do that half hour season recap for each individual team in the summer? I really enjoyed those.
They do but it seems like they are just shown for one week in August. I don't even like those anymore. The ones in the 70s and 80s were great. I find them to be overproduced now. I also hate the format if the team in question has a new head coach. Background- I am a Jets fan who disliked Rex Ryan and wanted Todd Bowles to replace

him. When I tried to watch the 2014 Jets season highlight film I had to turn it off because the first seven minutes was about Todd Bowles. Bowles was a Cardinals assistant coach in 2014. I wanted to watch the few Jets highlights of 2014 and see how NFL Films would have made it seem they were a good team as they did with teams like the 1980 Cardinals (a high quality production I actually have seen).

I didn't want to watch Todd Bowles and how he is gonna try to make the Jets be good. Bowles had nothing to do with the 2014 Jets.

NFL network has become horrible. Haven't watched espn in many years. Never thought I would say that.
Same. ESPN became a joke the second Tebow arrived in the NFL and Bron went to South Beach. Just about the same time. The severe overcoverage those 2 things together made the network a laughing stock. I'm convinced they knew what they were doing dragging the network down and just didn't care, just felt like p###ing people off.

Make me the third who can't watch ESPN, especially anything Trent Dilfer. He is horrid.

I like the post game Sunday show on NFLN. It's like guys in a barber shop talking about the games.

:lmao:

I wonder if it's a $$ thing. Gotta figure their programming execs are smart enough to know the difference between poo like this (or two hour special of A Football Life - Super Bowl Half Time Shows on a 48 hour loop) about and their bread and butter which is the games.
I don't watch NFLN much but I have seen a couple A Football Life and I found them to be interesting.
