Ben to get 4-6 games suspension

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be suspended for four to six games on Wednesday for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to multiple sources.

Roethlisberger

When the suspension is announced, it will contain conditions that will allow it to be reduced based on Roethlisberger's behavior and compliance with clinical evaluators.

Commissioner Roger Goodell's verdict will reinforce a message that NFL employees will be held to a higher standard than the law.

Steelers employees were bracing Tuesday night for what they suspected would be an eight-game suspension, but two sources said it would not be eight games.
Updated title info with official NFL ruling.

So he gets only 4 games if he behaves? Does that mean he serves the full 6 if he has moment of weakness and rapes another co-ed?

....and Pittsburgh has 5 Prime Time games - all after Week 6.
The NFL LOVES them some Black and Gold.
Yeah, it sure looks like there was some favoritism put into play here. We already know they adjusted the schedule to include more nationally televised games between two teams where a player switched from one team to the other......Phi/Was, NYJ/Pit...etc. I would think the NFL would have looked at this a little differently to avoid the appearance of favoritism.

More info

NFL cBen Roethlisbergerommissioner Roger Goodell has reportedly decided to suspend Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for four to six games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN are reporting that Roethlisberger's suspension will be for a minimum of four games. Goodell is expected to make an announcement on Wednesday, and he may initially announce the suspension for six games but give Roethlisberger the opportunity to be reinstated after four games if he meets certain conditions set forward by the league.

Those conditions could include compliance with mandatory counseling that the league would arrange, and Roethlisberger

Share7 will need to stay out of trouble between now and October, when he would be reinstated.

According to the report, the Steelers were actually expecting Roethlisberger to be suspended for up to eight games.

At the very least, the timing of the schedule release, the announcement of Big Ben's suspension, and the makeup of the Steelers schedule (3 playoff opponents in first 4 games) lends itself to reasonable doubt that there was no favoritism.

Joe Bryant signed off his breaking news email on the Big Ben suspension with this:

"For you folks that aren't Steeler / Roethlisberger fans, have a great Wednesday."

Your avatar is certainly appropriate, I can say that much.Say hi to Tawana for me.

On the contrary, you're one of the most confrontational, unnecessarily inflammatory posters I've come across in quite some time. Congrats on that.

How the heck am I being confrontational and inflammatory? You're the one that felt it necessary to bring the drama from one thread to this one.

You can believe that if you want to, but I have my doubts. As do others, I'm sure. Of course, I could be wrong, but it certainly appears to me that there was favoritism granted the Steelers here. No nationally televised games prior to Roethlisberger's perceived reinstatement. SOS has little to do with my perception of favoritism here and it does nothing to alleviate that perception either.

The NFL airs national games they think people will want to watch, nothing more, nothing less. If the Cardinals and Lions had national fan bases that tune in like the Steelers do, we'd see those teams more often on national broadcasts. Cowboys have 6 national games this year... it's a business, people. They don't care a whit about people crying favoritsm. You get on national TV either by drawing huge ratings or by winning lots of games.

:lmao: there's still a reasonable doubt that there's no favoritism -- 1 divisional game, and prime time games after the bye.

So far today, you've responded to 3 perfectly cordial posts with "hilarious," "laughable", and  in another thread. Then, in this thread, you post "rapes another co-ed" implying a rape took place. Don't hold your palms up now and pretend you aren't baiting people. At least if you're going to be an instigator, have the sack to stand up for it, don't backpedal afterwards.

Vick got 6 games reduced to 2 for meeting conditions.

I'm guessing the same is in play for Ben.

Then again Vick did get convicted of a federal felony.

With Ben being convicted in the court of public opinion, I am sure he has far less wiggle room.

Yeah that's not cool dude. You can't forget about all of the other rapes, they are just as important.

Lord, you're sensitive. You're obviously a homer whose having a tough day, so I'll cut you some slack but damn...You call me confrontational? What the hell do you think you're doing?

Look, the NFL may not have played favorites here, and I'm willing to believe that. However, it certainly does APPEAR that the Steelers are the NFL's darlings and that the NFL did little to avoid the appearance of favoritism towards the Steelers........at least in the sense of the early schedule and how the team will be avoiding "national" controversy early on.

You can't have the "They only have 1 playoff team in the first four" and the "They're not nationally televised" arguments together. One leads into the other. They don't have any televised games in the first four because they play some pretty crappy teams. Yes, that all could be circumstantial evidence of schedule gerrymandering...but it is ONE reason, not TWO.

Of course there's favoritism in the primetime scheduling. If the schedulers didn't favor teams that draw huge audiences for those games, they'd be fired before the schedule was released. That doesn't offer any benefit for PIT, though. If anything, it's extra pressure on Roethlisberger, since the media eye is going to be all over him in that time. Unless he's gone, which I continue to hope he will be, somehow.

If you want to cry conspiracy about the ultra-convenient bye week, you may have something.

The idea that the first part of the schedule is full of patsies because it has only one playoff team from last year is about as nuts as the primetime complaints, though. Baltimore, Atlanta, and Tennessee are all dangerous opponents, and legit playoff contenders. And I fully expect all to be favored (and probably win) vs the Steelers.

This is because, the Rooneys instill morals into all of their employees. And Tomlin is perfect for that organization..... Classy people, and classy owners.

It's a shame Ben put them in this position, but luckily, Goodell has a good relationship with them.....otherwise, it should have been at 8

I'm not seeing favoritism here. I have little doubt there's some fire under all the smoke...but Ben has yet to face any charges. With that in mind, a suspension of any kind is evidance of a LACK of favoritism!

(And I'm as neutral on the Steelers/Ben as they get.)

I'm not sensitive, but I do call posters out who laugh at other people's opinions and intentionally bait. It's that kind of posting that makes a lot of other boards suck and the lack of that type of posting is why I like posting here. You're dismissive and a fisherman, and while that's fine, you can expect to get called out on it from time to time. Your posting elicits a reaction, and you got one.I'm more than happy to let it die here.

Actually, you can argue both. Spread the tough games out and you have the Steelers playing national TV games early in the year without Ben.

I think the Steelers should tack on another game or 2 to the suspension........

That would certainly send another message......

That would be idiotic. People want to see the Steelers WITH Ben, both because they'll be more competitive, and because of the freak show aspect. Why would you think the NFL would want to shoot themselves in the foot by ####### up their schedule?

Add another one to the list.

There's really only 1 cakewalk in first 4 games. The really tough games against the Jets and Saints are later, but they didn't stack the deck that much in the Steeler's favor.

I never once mentioned the caliber of opponents in the first 6 weeks, that was someone else. My only basis for thinking there might have been favoritism is the fact that while Roethlisberger is suspended, the Steelers are suspiciously out of the national limelight. Thus, there will be little "national" talk of Roethlisberger and his suspension during the first 6 weeks. I believe there might have been schedule "gerrymandering" to help the Steelers avoid as much national spotlight as possible until Roethlisberger returns. At least to me that is how it APPEARS. Appearances can be deceiving, so I could be wrong.

Do people crying favoritsm think that because they announced the schedule yesterday that they did it in one day with all this information at hand?

Mike Wolk, Mississauga

How long does it take to create the full NFL schedule from the first game to the last?

Howard Katz, NFL

We begin the process in January, when the teams submit to us their stadium request and stadium blocks we have to work around. We meet with our television partners around the Super Bowl for their requests. And then after the Super Bowl we begin in earnest. We finish the process the at about 1 a.m. [2 days before the announcement]. So that was how long it took.

Much of this was already determined long before wind of this mess even came up.
