US Men's National Team (14 Viewers)

Signing up for CP’s Masterclass in ****housery.
What did he actually do wrong? I've seen the clip where the Lazio defender was gesticulating wildly for a foul and Pulisic keeps playing, but was someone dead on the field or something? Why would he stop?
I think it was the second red card Pulisic drew that is drawing the Concacaf comparisons. He baited the obviously frustrated defender into doing something stupid (something we take as gospel when watching Concacaf all these years).

That seems light for a 2nd yellow on the Lazio player IMO, but I'm not sure any of this is a CP thing -- seems like a ref thing. I mean, Pulisic is trying to take a yellow but the ref won't give it. And then he Ts up the other guy.

It wasn't exactly the same, but it reminded me of the 2020 Euros when Chiellini hauled down Saka. Saka didn't retaliate (partly because he really got hauled down), but I wonder if he would have been carded.

Goal for Tillman
Lovely goal

I watched end of 1st and whole 2nd half.

feys game plan was to rough up PSV. Lots of tackles from behind and very little time on the ball.

It was good to see Dest up his physical game without losing his head. Defended well and as always tidy with the ball, even if he didn't have many opportunities to get upfield int he 2nd half.

Tillman looked great- very involved as a 10, and looked really confident attacking with and without the ball. But he was lucky to have stayed on the pitch. Had just seconds earlier received a yellow for a tussle with Feys 6 who was all over him all game. Same guy hacks him down after he had broken through towards the attacking third... Wins the foul, but then throws the ball down into the ground in frustration. Refs blows the whistle and clearly thought about giving the deserved yellow.. but fortunately opted not to give it. Hopefully Gimemez (fey) and Chucky didn't make mental note about being able to get under his skin.

Watching Johnny and Betis vs AM. Boys against men here, not a lot of involvement so far for our boy.

Oh.. just had a nice move and shot on goal in a rare move forward for Betis

Eta... And watching him for 2nd time... When defending, he just slowly floats in the middle of the park in front of the CBs. The other MFs work their asses off to press and cover. And again, not loving his reaction time to the transition or 2nd/3rd ball.

But he's looked good on the ball with really nice vision for the simple or more complex ball. And usually forward into positive areas.

Nice steal and assist for Johnny! Fantastic finish though.

It was a nice play.

Down 0-2 late, he was pushing higher up the field like that. Good anticipation of the 3rd pass- closing down the space quickly to the eventual target and then nice vision to get it quickly to William.

I was thinking about him now after this 2nd time watching. I mentioned hes set up to sit pretty locked in as a 6 in front of the CBs, leaving the other MFs to cover a lot of ground on both sides of the ball. Maybe he could work for the US like that with Swag and Musah doing the work in front of him...?

Although ESPN is showing their formation as a 4-2-3-1 with Johny in the 2... So maybe I've misread the games and need to more at the other guys than just him, especially if he's got help back there.

I've mentioned him before, and we actually have options at striker now, but I'd still love to see Sam Adeniran get a run with the USMNT.

Came in last night for STL City and scored this equalizer.

Sam Adeniran
Adeniran does it again last night, 2nd goal in 2 games. His left foot is lethal.

Comments section saying he's Nigerian?
Nigerian descent, but he was born in Houston and grew up in the US.

The translation I used was confusing but it sounds like Cruz Medina was called into a Mexican U20 camp and is attending (or is considering attending).

Cruz is youth capped tied to US but he can train with Mexico before he has to use a one time switch.

I have not found any new reports in the last few days but the last I saw was that Weston is expected to miss the Nations Leagues Semi final(and Nations League Final if they win the semi's) this month with his shoulder issue.

What a shame, he has been arguably the best US player this entire club season. With likely no Adams and no Weston, and Reyna on effectively walk about in his loan, I think we are going to see what Johnny can do.

I figure 3 from Musah/Johnny/Tillman/LDLT will start, with the 4th being a second half sub for both games.

I also have no idea who is going to start at CB.

Ream's role at Fulham has been significantly reduced these last couple of months.
Richards has been playing holding midfielder for Palace
Trusty has gotten a ton of minutes at SU but has been getting shelled weekly and has also been playing LB I believe at times.
CCV, Robinson, Zimm, and McKenzie are still in second tier leagues

I am going to guess GGG goes with Richards and Ream. Although finding a replacement for Ream may be paramount as hoping he will still be at a WC level come summer of 2026 seems like a long shot.

Ream has been replaced at Fulham, it seems. I'm pretty sure he's healthy.

Gio had a knock, which is supposedly why he didn't play v Liverpool.

Swag... That sucks. Does souch on both sides of the ball. The only real box to box guy they have.

Weah and Musah seem like they've regressed in club play, both in minutes and quality when they see the field. Those two aren't really being discussed because they're at least still in the mix with their teams, but I haven't liked the direction from either of them in 2024. Hopefulky they'll find themselves again when they put on the US jerseys.

Johnny... Dunno if what he's doing for club will translate. I think the US will need much more mobility from him than he needs to do at his club... Hopefully I'm wrong, but I think they need more from the 6 than basically parking out in front of the CBs.

I'm waiting for Jesus to catch fire so GGG takes him at the expense of Pepsi, Sarge or Balo. Because you know both are highly possible..

Id be interested in seeing Richards at CB, if at least to have the hybrid 6/CB mindset.
Not if Johnny is playing IMO. I think it more likely GGG goes with Miles to start if Ream truly is past it now.
Even though there's a limited shelf life, I don't think ream is past it... Just that he lost his spot while he was injured and doesn't appear to be getting it back.
That is kind of how I see it too.

Ream is still spot starting for a mid table Fulham so I don't think he has dropped off a cliff. My guess is that the injury opened up a chance for a much younger player and they took it.

A tale as old as the game itself.

I don't watch a lot of Palace, but against Spurs last week Richards played LCB in a back 3.

Reading reports from the Arse v Sheff debacle, and as a LB it sounds like Trusty went through embarrassing misery vs Saka.
Fotmob had him at a 6.3. How is that possible as a defender in a 0-6 loss? I would think a 5 rating would have been justified.
He played a lot of balls out of bounds? Made some tackles and challenges?
Yeah. He put up lots of numbers because he had to. No minus numbers from getting torched.

We just just talked about this... Getting a 6 is ubiquitous. 5s means something went really, really wrong statistically. 7s... Good game.

It's only really worth seeing for the outliers.

Scrabble with a goal tonight for NE in Champions Cup play (just a tap in). He played 81 minutes in a surprisingly easy 4-0 win over Alajuelense.

the reverse angle of the goal show that Pulisic was smart to stab at it, that may have been saved on the line

Coach actually looks mad, lol. (Red jerseys behind him, so I’m guessing that’s his manager.)
He was frustrated with the entire team. They were up a man for the majority of the game and for it to have been only a 1 goal game that late, while at home, I am sure was driving him nuts.

Vazquez scores again, this time against his old club Cincy in Champions Cup play (game is in Cincy).

Vazquez is providing some nice depth at the 9 for us should Balo, Sarge or Pepe get hurt.
