US Men's National Team (18 Viewers)

I'm no expert, but this is about as one-sided a game as I've ever seen. I only tuned in at the half, though. How is it only 1-1?

I thought they get rid of the subjectivity with handballs? If you touch it with your hand it's a handball right? So what if there wasn't a nearby US player to score that's irrelevant people get penalties out of non-threatening situations all the time.

Is it after 6pm? Is it a Sunday? Whats the humidity level? All of these might factor in.

When it comes to quality chances it's about even.
I'll take your word for it, but the huge disparity in corners would seem to argue otherwise.

Mexico has dominated possession and shots but those two chances the US had at the end of the half were the best chances of the game for either team outside of the goals. Plus Mexico had the clear handball that should've been a PK you could argue the 3 most likely goal opportunities were the US's.

So this was a game that kinda showed what ive been talking about with Luna. In space witha little time...hes flashed. But anywhere tight, hes just muscled off ball or space and cant do much. Before that foul for the second goal, I thiught Luna was there, but just couldnt get on the ball and then ended up fouling their 10.

Hard to fault the guys too much when they got robbed by the obvious handball, but felt like the energy/urgency just was not there after the 2nd Mexican goal.

Ag on skates there. Such a great ball by Ream too
He's the most ungainly striker I've seen in a long time. He's big enough to get in good position, but damn he gets the ball lifted off of him every time. I haven't seen one good possession/turn from him.

My kingdom for Jozy right now.
Yeah...hes weird. At his best using his body winning space and ball on the diagonal or through ball, but everything else, he plays small.

Freeman goofed... should held the line. Still looked like mex started off then came back...thought that was still off.

Berhaulter needs more seasoning.

In a game you are on the back foot almost all game, why wait until the 75th to send in subs?

Problem is, even with our top guys (if they decide to give a sh**), still no subs in case of injury or fatigue or yellows. Tillman showed. Luna showed. The rest...meh.

And where was adams today?

Yeesh. Considering there will only be 3 or 4 guys from this team anywhere near the field in the WC, theres not much to take away from this GC and game.

Tillman looked like he got hurt early in this game- kept walking with a hitch and bending over. Still was the only guy on the offensive side of things who looked capable of doing something. I suppose if anything, we learned hes a guy who needs to be on the field next summer.

Richards clearly the same. Sad that Ream is the best passer on this team..but great that he can and great that yes still playing so well.

Adams didnt shine, which is concerning. Granted, ldlt isnt making anybody around him better but still.

Really wanted to see Johnny step up, not the oppoosite and injury that we got.

Not convinced by anybody else, despite everybody having some moments.

I am most frustrated about Weah, Campbell and Reyna. Their club teams barely played them this summer and all 3 would have given Poch some useful options especially out wide up front where we had literally no one on the entire roster.

Now we sit and pray that most of the team will be available for Japan and SK this September.

As with the rest of the games I watched, Tillman/Ream/Adams/Richards the only ones worth anything. Unfortunately Tillman looked tired and banged up, and kept getting pushed wide. Didn't think Adams was bad, but also wasn't at his best. If the announcers hadn't constantly praised Luna for walking around in the defense doing nothing, I wouldn't have known he was in the game.

Finally one good set piece from Berhalter. Aside from his wrestling matches on Mexico corners, he didn't do anything either.

Will be nice to get Robinson back on defense. These two did not cover any width well and the chips over the top where so poorly marked.

And guys, no one is giving a handball and PK when a player trips and in the process of falling puts his hand down to brace himself and lands on the ball. Sorry, not going to happen.

The ref decided early he was not going to call anything. It did go both ways. The yellow on Mexico for fouling Ag came after Luna got away with kicking someone.

Mexico was the better team. Deserved champs.

Was talking to someone about the game. She was lamenting the lack of heading ability, esp after Freeman misjudged the cross on the second goal. She thought the younger players were the first group to grow up without being allowed to head the ball. Misjudging the flight, heading to bad spots and no control. a lot going off the shoulder and not the head.

Not sure if they are, but it is an interesting look at the changes for kids in the US playing the sport.

I was impressed by how Mex went about things in the GC in a NOT impressive manner (not flashy, or exuding danger). Organized and with clear intent on their movement and shape. None of these guys seem like world class game breakers, and yet theyre playing together better than they did when they had guys like that.

Went just about as expected. Mexico had absolutely no fear of anything up top so they just kept the ball. They forced Luna to spend 75+ mins defending, kicked Tilman enough to slow him up and nobody else could create a thing.

Freese is just a JAG. He's fine, but he's no better than 4 or 5 other mediocre GK's in the pool. He fell into a starting spot by default because Turner hasn't played consistently in 4 years and had a few high profile stinkers. Sad that GK is now such an obvious weak spot.

Neither FB was ready for a game like this. Arfston has a little potential on O but stinks on D. Freeman looks like he probably should have been a football player like his dad but didn't want to get hit. I'm not a huge Tolkin fan, but he's better than both those guys.

Richards cemented his spot. Ream kinda had to play because they needed his passing out there (due to the weakness at so many other spots). Wish we had the opportunity to see McKenzie, as it seems like he's taken a nice step in the past year.

Luca was just a body but they just kept running him out there. No idea why you dont give SOMEONE else a chance (Pax or Mcglynn)

Berhalter really is just the poor man's, new age Acosta. He hits some good set pieces and is always up for some ****-housery, but very, very MEH.

Adams is what he is. Does his job, can be incredibly effective with the right guys doing the stuff he can't do but not the type of guy to make "A-Team guy" impact when surrounded by B team guys.

Luna was pinned back the whole time. Mexico totally neutralized him. And that isolated Tilman as the only impact attacker so they could just kick him out of the game.

Agyemang is just another clumsy MLS flavor of the month donkey. He makes Zardes look like Lewandowski. And Poch just kept running him out there.

No point talking about any bench guys, as none of them played meaningful minutes.

Can't blame Poch for Club World Cup or the Milan guys now showing up. Our fullbacks are probably 2 of our best 5 players and both of them were hurt/"hurt". But there were 4-6 better roster selections they could have made that could have helped this team. Really seems like Poch is just cashing a check to me and now its a year out and we have basically nothing to build on.

We all knew there would be a lack of meaningful games before next summer for him, so I hope he has a plan. He probably expected more available this summer, but when they didn't show,
he has to go looking for players to make a case for themselves as impact subs and potential injury replacements. Hoping he knows what he has at the top and this just builds depth and potential competition.

Or I might be giving him to much credit and you are right. Either way, the US reupping then firing GGG put the US in this position.

Luna for walking around in the defense doing nothing, I wouldn't have known he was in the game.
I dont rhink youre giving him enough credit for rhe lack of positioning
Oh right. That was top class.

Don't forget him blaming the defender inside of him when he got chipped and didn't run with the winger.
Id like to see him jump leagues soon. Hes got really nice talent on the ball- tries ****, good skills and vision. The rest of his game needs seasoning and development somewhere where hes pushed more.

And im hoping the stuff im seeing with him not getting on the ball is something he can develop and not a product of his athleticism or physicality (like aaronson).

Proud of our boys.

We showed well this tourney despite an obvious lack of talent. I'm slightly encouraged for the WC and looking forward to seeing the full team prepare for the main event.
